Law Makers about to Strike a Deal on Immigration

This is total BS and a sellout of our country. Breaking the law is breaking the law and should have consequences, not amnesty. They should be securing our borders. Can anyone say lets buy some votes?

Past behavior is a potential indicator of future behavior.

In 1986 President Ronald Reagan gave three million illegal immigrants amnesty. What did that get us? 12 million more illegals. That is in a twenty year period. In twenty more years will that number quadruple again? What these politicians are proposing in amnesty by another name.

"A rose is a rose by any other name is still a rose." Shakespeare.

Keep thinking that it is a good idea. When we are unable to support this deluge of people and the prosperity of this country is unsupportable. We will only have ourselves to blame. Learn from history or doom yourselves and repeat it.

+1 Slugthrower. You said a mouthfull, and I agree with ya!

I'm fine with legal immigration. If they want to to through the paperwork and process of becoming an American, then I'm fine with that. They have my respect, and I wish them good luck. I do not support border jumping to take advantage of poor inforcement of laws already in place.

It makes as much sense as somone converting their AK or AR to full auto, on the grounds that the ATF hasnt searched their house yet.

We do not have the land and resources to take in every disadvantaged person in the world. In the end, it would only bring America down to the level of the country they left. It may sound cold, harsh, and above all, not PC, but its not my problem. Its theirs.

To use Mexico for an example... There are plenty of people in Mexico. They easily outnumber their goverment, and even the drug cartels. It would be long and difficult, but they have the power to set things right in their country. Just as our forefathers broke free from an opressive govt and started a new one, they can do the same.

I live in an area where agriculture, construction, and factory work provide most of the income for the local people. More and more, i see company owners hiring illegal imigrants, paying them under the table, hiring a translator when necessary, all in the name of making their own wallets fatter. When this happens, The citizens who work for the same company either have their wages stagnate, or loose their jobs. I've seen this happen several times with my own eyes, as i used to work in heavy industrial construction, and agriculture.

I want the laws to be tough on illegal immigration.

The amnesty part will become reality. The increased border security & employer punishment or fines will never happen.

The most rediculous part of this plan is that they think the illegals will pay a $5000 fine and return to thier homeland.

GET REAL. First of all, few of them are interested in becoming citizens, thier allegiance is with mexico or wherever they came from, if i had a buck for every mexican flag i see flying, i could retire.

What happens when these people "come out of the shadows" and decide that they aint working for minimum wage anymore? Millions more will come over who will, its going to be an endless cycle, with Americans suffering the consequences.

To all, we are facing an invasion of criminal aliens, we have already HAD an invasion of criminal aliens , the 12-20 million such AMERICAN HEROES as W, Teddy and others want to reward for violating any number of laws the citizens of the U.S. passed.
It seems a lot of you believe being a criminal is a good thing, I have the opposite position, I would like to see criminals in prison, then if they are not citizens, kicked out of the country, yes even one time drunk drivers, now only tossed if they do it 3 times and the feds can find them to deport them.
Why do so many of you want to see the U.S. middle class be destroyed and the U.S. become a third world country?
Do you really want to live in Mexico II?
 :barf:

Why do so many of you want to see the U.S. middle class be destroyed and the U.S. become a third world country?

Sadly your correct we are moving in that direction, continued outsourcing,
loss of manufacturing, importing under educated workers, new jobs are
usually low paying service jobs, medical care more difficult to obtain, yes,
like it or not third world like. The government and corporate America are
selling the American worker out, what a shame.

It's Greed and economics.

We don't really want to see the middle class go down. The few rich
white American employers, let me add the word greedy, will do all they can
to make more money and pay illegal labor which is much cheaper than local
labor. I don't think we have to blame the Mexicans entirely. They are merely
taking advantage of the opportunities. We have to blame our own richer
kind, white enterpreneurs who are running a free enterprise system to the
detriment of lower middle working class people. To blame immigrants only is
missing the point. I would say for every 100 illegals, one "white guy" is
making a killing(Money, that is)....lot's of it......

It seems some of the ideas brought forth by a few members on TFL will become a reality for the 12 million or so undocumented workers already in the US

"It seems some of the ideas brought forth by a few members on TFL will become a wet dream come true for the 12 million or so illegal workers already in the US"

There, fixed it for you.

Deal? It's a great deal ...FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS!!

If you care about America or you kids or even yourselves,
go to http://www.gov.com/branch/legislative/
It has all the Senate phone #. Voice your displeasure with this bill, several times.

I think this is all about the votes. 12m votes could sway an election next year and allow the velvet glove to cinch a little tighter. I wouldn't be suprised if the new citizens were required to vote as part of the deal for citizenship.

First of all, few of them are interested in becoming citizens, thier allegiance is with mexico or wherever they came from, if i had a buck for every mexican flag i see flying, i could retire.

Guess you have never been in the bronx or little italy, or seen a St. Patty's day parade.

And speaking of erin go braless, how come I dont see the frothing at the mouth about the Irish illegal immigrants...only the mexicans...

Naw the Irish are OK....they are one of "us" :)

It's all about money. Not for the so-called "rich white guys" that enikkor was ranting about, but money for the .gov.

Illegals are now being paid cash and Uncle Sam isn't getting his cut of the money. 12 million more taxpayers could easily mean another $60-$100 Billion for the treasury every year.

Edward is correct too, votes certainly are important in this deal too.

IMHO, it's a travesty of justice. Let's add another 1.5 million to the deal and let everyone in prison out too! I mean, as long as we're rewarding law-breakers, let's go all the way...

I would like to actually see the details of the proposed legislation before I decide who to trash or damn.

I gotta agree the issue is money. At present "illegal" immigrants are paying social security tax (to someone's account) at a rate of $300 million per day. I guess congressional calculus is if a little tax is good, a lot of tax is better.

The logistical problems are going to be immense. Millions & millions going back across the border to Mexico to return then pay their $5000.00 fine. I can't wait to see the live video feed of the long lines of illegals returning to Mexico to conform to this new immigration law. All of this arguing and the solution was simple.

-Give out 12 million or so legal "Z" visa's.

-Have each illegal return to Mexico then officially re-enter the USA.

-Have each illegal pay a $5000.00 fine.

Now wasn't that easy!

Simpson-Mazoli was, as I recall, the last major immigration reform legislation enacted. At that point in time, it was a while back, the number if illegal immigrants in the U.S. was estimated at about 6,000,000. Simpson-Mazoli was an amnesty bill, at least there were significant elements of amnesty for illegals therein, anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Now it looks like we are well on the way to another piece of immigration reform, for the president keeps telling us that he really wants to sign one such. Looking at what happened after the enactment of previous "reform", legislation, think that members of congress are aiming for 24,000,000 illegals, or might it be more?
