Kilted & Concealed Carrying

Recently I attended a loved ones wedding. The men of the family were asked to wear a kilt. I've been ill of late and hadn't noticed how much weight I had lost until I tried on my wool Tartar Kilt. It was way to loose. With just a few days to go I got online and located a Utilikilt. These are really different. I rec'd it in short order and it fit perfectly. I had ordered the Mocker in black, dressy without the bulk of wool. BUT the best was when I discovered the really deep front pockets. I usually carry a .38 Colt Cobra in my sporran, but with these pockets I was able to carry a .40 Sig P226 in my right pocket and an extra mag in the left. There is also two back pockets for the wallet as well. The weight made the Utilikilt move just right and no one suspected a thing. I can recommend the Utilikilt if you're into kilts and concealed carry. Plus women you've never meet will ask about your underwear! Sorry no pics I'm not that advanced, but Utilikilts does have a website. Anyone else carry while kilted?

Tartan :D

Pop it in the sporran laddie, it's where the cash goes. But ye nae need it wi' a dirk in yer garters

As a man who's worn a kilt, I can't say that CCW while kilting has ever came up on this site. It would seem that the sporran would be the ideal CCW in plain sight solution.

Ay, laddie. I carry me ppk with me kilt when ever I have an occasion to wear me clan colors. I have been asked on many occasions by many a lass..."so what do you wear under yer kilt?" My reply?...LIPSTICK!, and nothin else;).

Loch Sloy!!

I'm not sure he ever personally tried it, but Robert Heinlein's hero "Lazarus Long" wore a kilt with his weapons strapped to the inside of his thigh.

This is actually a pretty good subject. Kilts are making a slow, but steady emergence, here in the States. My Sister, and her Husband had a very traditional wedding. Kilts were the uniform of the day, and carrying concealed without poockets proved challenging.(especially in a great Kilt)

Great kilt

I have several kilts in the Campbell clan tartar. My point in this thread is that with the Utilikilt you have pockets. I didn't have to wear a sporran to carry items in. I've alway found a kilt to be very comfortable if it's cut casually and not have the weight of the 9 yard great kilt. The utilikilt will allow me to wear it more for everyday clothing and still carry. I do have a CCP and hiding my SIG was always a "no can do" in the past.

I also have a Utilikilt. The Mocker like the OP. The pockets would be great for carry, except they are so deep, I'd be worried about being able to reach my gun. The Utilikilt is one of the main reasons I got a holster that allows me to tuck my shirt in. It's the only time I do tuck my shirt.

The sporran would probably be best (depending on the size of the gun and the sporran) if you were wearing a traditional wool kilt.

And as for those of you flabbergasted by the subject, don't knock it till you've tried it. Seriously, there is nothing quite so comfortable as a kilt. They do not look at all like you're wearing a skirt (if it's a good kilt), and you'd be surprised how many people out in public actually compliment you on it rather than ridicule (it's like a 6 to 1 ratio). On the scale of human history, pants are a flash in the pan. Get a Utilikilt. It's the best concealed carry wear.

Real Deep!

Hey PC you're right about the depth. I could just barely reach the snubbie in its pocket carry holster. Thats why I thought of the Sig. Freedom! :D

With snow still on the ground, (went snowgoing yesterday from my front door) and snow in tonight's forecast, I really do not see very many kilts in this neck of the woods!

Although when in Anchorage I have seen fur underwear for sale. Maybe the furriers could make up a package deal!

And when we finally do get to Spring, I guess some good mosquito net leggings might be the order of the day.

More power to you if you live where kilts are comfortable/reasonable!

And now for something completely different...A Scotsman on a horse. With a Glock under his kilt.

I'm not Scottish buy my two daughters got into Highland dancing just for fun and danced at the local Burns Night celebrations for awhile. I have to admit that some of the kilts were very impressive but I never even thought of anyone carrying concealed!

I've never tried it, but I have heard of a method of concealed carry used by prison inmates. It seems like it would be a bit uncomfortable to me. If it were me, I think I would just use a belly band.

Have never found a kilt for my clan Calderwood, Campbell off shoot. But I see more and more kilts at the Arms Collectors shows in WA state. Never worn one but may have to try one....no underware right?;)

"Robert Heinlein's hero "Lazarus Long" wore a kilt with his weapons strapped to the inside of his thigh." That he did. He also always had a "throwaway" to give to the security types that missed his main blaster under the kilt. Nice!
