Great Movie!! I hope people see it and wonder how the hell we got Clinton. When you see it and see the church scene, see if it reminds you of anything. Sure did me. I don't wnat to ruin any of the movie for you all. But please go see it.

I am planning on it and can't wait. It's supposed to open here tomorrow.

The way the media is always talkin' about the box-office hits, we could make this one bigger than they expected, and send 'em a big message! ;)

Headed to the theater tomorrow night with a buddy of mine. Both our wives are out of town, so it's "Guy's Night Out" for us!

From the way a couple of British rags are writing about it, I'm sure it's a GREAT movie! ;)

I saw it tonight too and thought it was excellent...very good movie. I didn't like the church scene myself as a cinematic thing, thought it was a bit over the top, but otherwise I really enjoyed the movie. Was very emotionally moved...I gotta admit to tearing up a time or two.

It's another Braveheart, but with GUNS!!!!

Great movie, detailed discussion can wait until you guys get to see it.

I was talking about the church burning. Can you say Waco?

Yes I knew what you were talking about and I felt it was too over the top. I already knew that British guy was bad, we already had seen plenty of innocents die...I just thought the church burning was too much.

Don't worry, trust me, the scene they mentioned has nothing to do with the plot whatsoever (to the degree that we find ourselves complaining about it).

When you watch it you'll agree that the movie could have been made better by cutting out some stupid bits.

battler.

I couldn't wait, so I read the book. I don't know about you, but I get upset when the moviemakers refuse to admit, that while the actual person the movie is based on was a true American hero (Francis Marion of Marions Rangers fame), he was a man of his times. Freedmen? Hardly. Other than than, I have to say the book was great. Can't wait to see the flick.
By the way, the book followed the real life exploits of Marion closely. Marion was a brutal fighter in the French and Indian wars, and became a farmer/carpenter in South Carolina. He later was forced to become involved against his better wishes with the American Revolution because he couldn't avoid it. I won't give away anymore. I'm going to see it in a couple of hours when the wife gets home.

Just got home from seeing this fim :)
All I will say is It's outstanding and should make one stop and really think ;)
If you haven't seen it, It's a must see :)

Good Fu*#* movie,

Got to see it in Colorado Springs at Kimbal's peak.

They let you drink beer or wine with the movie. Tickets to Dr. Jenkins playing Merriwether Lewis (instead of Tom Jeff)were sold out. Since we were already down town, I talked the wife into a couple of glasses of wine and a movie. I think there is too much love story here, but the wife enjoyed the flick because of it. So in response to the "Guys night out post," you could bring the wives also.

To answer how did we get Bill?

We got complacent, we saw the SAX and said why not. The GOP was too much concerned with my bedroom and not my rights so I sinned.

In 1996, when it was time to oust the dog, the GOP gave me DOLE, WTF. It is time that we get our GWB in the house- I'd rather McCain, but it seems I was alone.

VOTE VOTE VOTE. There are 80 million gun owners in this coutry. I think we could win any thing owning a quarter of the popular vote.

I would give the movie three out of four stars (good entertainment). However, the history is weak, and some of the characters are cartoonish (especially the English: they are either evil demons or stylish fops).

I thought the movie was excellent. The political undertones very timely for an election year. The speech in the Assembly in the begining of the movie in which Gibson comments that a congress of politicians can be as tyrannical as a king was particularly interesting. And the American loyalist in the church scene who was just doing his duty?
With all the mindless garbage that Hollywood produces these days this movie is something worthwhile (even though the Brit bashing is a bit heavy handed).I'm going to see it again this weekend.

Saw the movie last night with the wife. She normally does not like violent movies, but she like this one very much. I must admit that I know very little about the history behind this man and his exploits, but the movie did make me decide to do a bit of research. I'm sure Hollywierd took quite a bit of artistic license, but it was done well. The church thing was a bit over the top I agree, but in a sense I think it was necessary to make the connection for some of the sheeple out there to todays lives. As for the Brit bashing; it was directed at government entities and in as much there can never be too much Brit government bashing. The SADDEST part of the movie is that I am certain the 80%+ of the crowd there who booed the Brtis and cheered Mel and his boys, cant or wont admit to the parallels we are seeing in the America of 2000. They will just go home and continue hoping the economy is good and believe that the rest really does not matter.

It reminded me of "The Outlaw Josey Wales" you know the one, nice peace loving farmer turns killer when the evil Yankee Red Legs kill his family and then he butchers them all in revenge, yawn, yawn. Personally, I like movies as pure entertainment, I don't see their role as being teachers of history, at best they over-simplify it, and at worst, they re-write it. In Germany for example, they recognized early on the dangers of re-writing their own tarnished past and passed laws to prevent it.

Anyone who falls for this kind of "cheer the guy in white and boo the guy in black" stuff is obviously enjoying what they see. But, and it's a big but, Braveheart resulted in several violent racist assaults on English people by young Scots who were heard (or should that be herd) to shout "Freedom" as they carried out the attack, the famous line from the movie. I have also seen some less than savory anti-British posts here when a newspaper report was quoted saying that the Brits were offended by the film, I doubt that very much, the Brits could care less, they watched Braveheart in their hundreds of thousands and I doubt there will be any difference with The Patriot.

Bottom line, chewing gum for the eyes, nowhere near as good as Gladiator. I just hope it doesn't have any effect on the attitudes of the more impressionable.
