Now with all the traffic on this forum about 10 mm's,we will see.........

I could be wrong, but I think the 'Mighty 10' is making a small comeback. There have been a lot of 10mm discussions here lately. And the gun shops here can't keep em on the shelves... Maybe? Maybe not?

For self defense against humans: Ed Brown Executive Carry

For self defense against dangerous game: Ruger Redhawk Stainless 4" .44 Rem Mag

Since I'm rarely near dangerous game, the Executive Carry must be my first choice.

I think popular brands like Glock HK and Sig are getting a beating in this poll because SW is racking up pistols and revovlers.
To a certain extent you are probably right. Ruger gets some of the same double genre boost as well.

But, I really think that the more telling aspect is that if one were to be limited to 1 gun, then it is advantageous that the 1 gun be as versatile as possible. It needs to cover as many different roles as possible. And there is where the revolvers shine. Autoloaders tend to be niche products -- they do what they do well, but they tend to be specialists. Revolvers may not do what autoloaders do as well as autoloaders do them, but they do tend to do more things well enough. In other words, they tend to be generalists.

So I think that the high numbers that S&W and Ruger gets is more due to the superiority of revolvers in the generalist "1 gun" role.

Just one??

4" GP-100

A heavy revolver built like a tank. It can handle the heaviest .357mag loads all day long, without any problems. It offers the choice of .357mag or .38spl. It is not the best for CCW, but is perfect for the nightstand and even hunting. If limited to just one handgun, the 4" GP-100 is my pick, and I can make do with it.

I suspect we have people voting for what they have, not the ideal handgun.
All the usual suspects, Glock, S&W, and Ruger. Not that they are bad, but if I could only have one, I'd rather have a Cadillac than a Chevy. (and I own a S&W and a Ruger.)

I dont agree with you. I think rather have what is their ideal handgun. Cadey and chevy example doesnt work here since we are talking about product which are at best 600 dollars apart. Not kind of moeny that will make a gun out of one's reach even if they opt to save for it. For example if one wants to have a 1200 dollar HK he can save for and sell his 500 dollar gun when time is right. Not like an automobile where he must rack up 10s of thousands before he could have his ideal automobile.

I do not think so. I think people are voting for the one handgun that is best for them. For example, I own 1911's, HK's, and Glocks along with S&W and Ruger revolvers.

I would never pick a semi-auto as my "one handgun. That leaves revolvers. SA's are out, so that leaved DA revolvers. My 2.5" Model 19 is sweet for CCW and the 4" Model 19 is great for night stand and so-so for CCW. My 686's and 586's are nice, but not my pick as the do-all revolvers.

My pick for "one" handgun is the 4" GP-100. I pick it, for the reason's I posted above. It is "my" ideal one handgun.

If another person person chooses something different, than so be it. Their choice, is the ideal pick for them.
