That said, how the heck did we get from jury service to driving an ass-dragger at 125 mph?
These discussions do that sometimes.
your beliefs defy all logic and common sense, just like when anti-gunners say "I don't BELIEVE that citizens carrying guns can reduce crime.", when the stats and facts clearly prove that they do.
Then by
your logic I should live in one of the most dangerous areas in the country, because we don't allow CCW. The fact is I live in one of the safest states and in
the second-safest metro area in the country!. Crime has everything to do w/ demographics and very little to do w/ who's packing. There's a lot of people running around w/ guns in central Detroit, LA, New Orleans, etc. Why aren't
they safe places?
If we have more Rights, it's because of the Constitution, not because we have more lawyers. Lawyers are trying to change the meaning of the Constitution to reduce our rights, i.e. The Second Amendment. And what about Freedom? To me, Freedom is living w/o fear; of my government and my fellow citizens (although my government
should fear me). It's
not having to pack because I might have to use deadly force to protect myself or my family. It's the ability to go where I want, when I want, w/o fear. But I can't. Why? Because lawyers consistently get the BG's released. How? By doing virtually anything and everything they can to fool a jury, i.e. reasonable doubt. Now as I said before, I don't know if this would change if everyone accepted their "duties as a citizen" and willingly served on a jury. It might. I do think that having professional jurors would make a difference, both criminally and civilly.
Somewhat ironically, my wife received jury notice yesterday. She's a teacher so she's had the last 10 weeks off and could have served w/o any problem. She starts back on 9/1. When does she have to serve? The month of September.
Is she going to serve? Yes. Even though it will cause her a tremendous amount of extra work if she gets empaneled; she'll have to have all the lesson plans done for the sub for the entire time she's out. Will she get paid? Don't know for sure. The court pays $15 a day. She's going in this am to find out if the district will cover the rest, or if we go on an austerity budget.
And (this might be hard to believe) I'm am not anti-lawyer. I realize they are a necessary part of a country ruled by law. We may have the most "rights"; that doesn't guarantee the most "freedom". (This strays from the topic and should probably be another thread.)
