Jury duty?

If you don't believe me, try driving 125mph down the Interstate. The Germans do it all the time.

Let's be honest and realize that we're talking about non-U.S.-type highways. Many of the interstates in the U.S. simply cannot allow for that kind of speed and still be anything remotely resembling safe.

You could not do 125 mph on I-95 in Florida, or I-87 or I-90 in NY, or I-495 around D.C., without seriously jeopardizing lives.

American highways also aren't maintained for anything even remotely resembling 125mph speeds.

The Autobahn is maintained to a level that's hard to imagine here in the US. It also eats up AMAZING amounts of money for that maintenance.

Guys, in plain and simple terms, if any one of us were to be involved in a Home protection shooting, or had the take the life of a Criminal, and for what ever reason we were to face a trial by Jury, I personally would rather be tried by 12 HONEST PEOPLE, than to be in a situation where there was people on the JURY that their only interest was to get back to the every day life they have, I would question the HONESTY OF THE JURRORS, as their atention surley would not be on my case, and I would fear the outcome.

I would not object to a Jurror who had a honest Religious objection to the death Penalty asking to be excused in a death penalty case and I believe the Judge would excuse a Jurror under these circumstances, but I tell you true The Judge takes a dim view of people that simply try to get out of Jury Duty for what he would consider trivial reasons.

 Sheesh

You forgot to bring up the fact that driving most American cars at those speeds is tantamount to a deathwish.

They dont drive fast because the Autobahn is a great road, the Autobahn is a great road because they can drive fast. The POINT is they can do somethings we can't and vice-versa. And there are places on the Interstate system where you could safely drive at unlimited speeds, if it was allowed, w/ the right car. The crap roads on the east coast (and elsewhere) not withstanding.

What they don't have is as many lawyers and a litigious, sue-happy society.

I do not believe more lawyers means more freedom. Looking at it from an historic perspective in the US, more lawyers means more laws means LESS freedom.

Answer this HONESTLY....if, when you received you notice to serve, IF you could have easily avoided it, would you have?
No, I will not try to avoid it. I will gladly do my duty as a citizen.

I do not believe more lawyers means more freedom.

Then your beliefs defy all logic and common sense, just like when anti-gunners say "I don't BELIEVE that citizens carrying guns can reduce crime.", when the stats and facts clearly prove that they do. We have more rights in the US than any other country. China has the least. We have the most lawyers per capita. China has the least per capita. In addition to the extreme examples, the correlation exists across the board, because lawyers are necessary to go to court to enforce the rights. True enough, that it's not a cause & effect - the number of lawyers don't CAUSE more rights, but the correlation or association is there nevertheless, because the rights in a society CAUSES more people in the justice system to be necessary - it's the opposite in causation, but the correlation is still there indisputably.

"They dont drive fast because the Autobahn is a great road, the Autobahn is a great road because they can drive fast."

By that logic I 95 between DC and Richmond would be a "great road." It's one of the better maintained sections of I95, and it's still a crap pile compared to the Autobahn.

Reviewing the maintenance procedures for the Autobahn is a really interesting exercise, as is taking a look at how its construction differs from US interstates.

That said, how the heck did we get from jury service to driving an ass-dragger at 125 mph?

I have read a lot here about a HIGHER CLASS OF CITIZEN TO SERVE ON A JURY, I don't know about you but if my life was on the line in a trial I would be real concerned about the so called HIGHER CLASS OF CITIZEN, I understand that your implication is for an educated and informed Citizen but think about this, are not the CONGRESS A HIGHER CLASS OF CITIZEN, in fact a good part of them, are in fact Lawyers, and Doctors, and you know what they have done to this country Give me a hard working class of people that understand where I am and where I have come from who have walked in a pair of shoes similar to mine, who have lived in the same areas that I have, and lived a like life style, Raise kids and can understand my feelings because they have very simular ones themselves, these are the ones I want to sit on a trial where MY LIFE MAY HANG IN THE BALLANCE. Thank You Very Much!

Just to defend the so called retards, have you ever know a mentally handicaped person, I mean really known one they are loving and Honest people, they may not be Jury Quality People in all cases but don't pass them off as a STUPID NO COUNT GROUP of people, There not!

Wow, this thing is getting long but so far I've learned a few things.
1. Lawyers think I'm dumb
2. Lawyers don't think I'm dumb, just gullable.
3. McDonalds is callous
4. I can drive 125mph in Germany but not in the states.

Das,
Did you ask your employers about possibly paying part of your wages for the time you are off for jury duty? Some will some won't.

That said, how the heck did we get from jury service to driving an ass-dragger at 125 mph?
These discussions do that sometimes. :D
your beliefs defy all logic and common sense, just like when anti-gunners say "I don't BELIEVE that citizens carrying guns can reduce crime.", when the stats and facts clearly prove that they do.

Then by your logic I should live in one of the most dangerous areas in the country, because we don't allow CCW. The fact is I live in one of the safest states and in the second-safest metro area in the country!. Crime has everything to do w/ demographics and very little to do w/ who's packing. There's a lot of people running around w/ guns in central Detroit, LA, New Orleans, etc. Why aren't they safe places?

If we have more Rights, it's because of the Constitution, not because we have more lawyers. Lawyers are trying to change the meaning of the Constitution to reduce our rights, i.e. The Second Amendment. And what about Freedom? To me, Freedom is living w/o fear; of my government and my fellow citizens (although my government should fear me). It's not having to pack because I might have to use deadly force to protect myself or my family. It's the ability to go where I want, when I want, w/o fear. But I can't. Why? Because lawyers consistently get the BG's released. How? By doing virtually anything and everything they can to fool a jury, i.e. reasonable doubt. Now as I said before, I don't know if this would change if everyone accepted their "duties as a citizen" and willingly served on a jury. It might. I do think that having professional jurors would make a difference, both criminally and civilly.

Somewhat ironically, my wife received jury notice yesterday. She's a teacher so she's had the last 10 weeks off and could have served w/o any problem. She starts back on 9/1. When does she have to serve? The month of September. Is she going to serve? Yes. Even though it will cause her a tremendous amount of extra work if she gets empaneled; she'll have to have all the lesson plans done for the sub for the entire time she's out. Will she get paid? Don't know for sure. The court pays $15 a day. She's going in this am to find out if the district will cover the rest, or if we go on an austerity budget.

And (this might be hard to believe) I'm am not anti-lawyer. I realize they are a necessary part of a country ruled by law. We may have the most "rights"; that doesn't guarantee the most "freedom". (This strays from the topic and should probably be another thread.)
