I thought the kid should have gone back. Idiot Castro undermines that position by stating that the kid will be sent to a "re-education camp" on return.

I now don my flame-retardant undies.

What gets me is all the fire-breathing talk of resistance by the locals turns out to be just that - talk.

If they were REALLY serious, why didn't they have armed guards on the alert at all times who were ready to open fire at any government assault? If they refuse to learn from Waco (that the govt WILL use force), then I don't have any sympathy for them.

This is what I suspect will happen when they come for the "from my dead, cold hands" types. Much ado about nothing.

I knew the regime would take Elian in just such a manner. Did anyone honestly expect a different outcome given the previous behavior of the semi-dictatorship now in power?

The day will come when we must choose between fighting, and dying, for freedom in our own country, or becomming subserviant, and cowardly, members of a repressive dictatorship. What will you choose?

This whole thing is disgusting. Our president is disgusting. Our government is disgusting. I don't know if I should fly my flag at half mast today or just take it down completely.

I knew they were eventually going to come get the kid, I think he does belong with his Dad, but to see a weapon pointed AT the kid and his uncle by a guy wearing practically a ski mask is CRAZY. Look at the horrified look on that childs face, MY GOD, couldn't they have done this without pointing a gun to two unarmed people? I understood they had to be armed to protect themselves but there was no reason for them to point that gun at the uncle and especially Elian. Tear gasing children? Were there *that* many people blocking the way that early in the morning? This is sad.

It was just a matter of time until El Reno made her move. This is a disgusting display of arrongance by the Clinton administration. I do not believe under any circumstances that the child should be returned to Cuba. God help us if ElelevenO's predictions come true

This morning I was watching the news and several networks wanted to point out that the pictured agent's finger was not in the trigger guard. I believe that someone at the DOJ issued a statement concerning this issue. Big deal, it takes a whole 2 tenths of a nanosecond to move your finger to the trigger. DOJ is playing CYA.

BTW, I am getting a big kick out of arguing with my liberal, uninformed, young co-workers about the issue. I've gotten the chance to prove them wrong on numerous issues already!!

It seems counter-intuitive to some, but government is barbaric, just as the anti-self defense movement is barbaric. And, that term not only includes, but emphasizes their willingness, and desire to use lethal force against those who would resist them. 'Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.'

I wish no harm to this poor boy, and I hope he recovers from all of this to grow into a free and happy man. If he does, his will be a biography to remember.

However, there is another, interesting possible story here. It is not yet May, and we write to each other only one day before Easter. This is a memorable day, and there are still many months to go before the November elections in this country. Elian will experience much in the next seven months ... some are not optimistic about his upcoming experiences.

There are ample possibilities that the news will not be good in the Fall. There is a better than even chance in my mind that this boy will be spirited back to Cuba quite soon, despite the machinations of the federal courts. That may be the next black eye for Clinton and Reno. And, in his new life in Cuba, we may find that Elian is none too happy.

If that is the case, and if this matter becomes the albatross around Clinton's neck (the others having somehow always having flown away ...), then Mr. Gore may have some difficulties in November.

Perhaps a stretch, and again, I certainly don't wish for this boy to go through any more pain. But, in his special way, Elian may have actually helped turn the United States back towards freedom by showing us again what can happen when good people are enslaved by despotic governments ... on either shore.

on the subject of that pic of the agent grabing the kid can anyone here inhance the pic and see what position the selector switch was in? and have any of you seen the new picture they just showen on elian with his father?

The media is showing that the trigger finger in not on the trigger, making it an OK deal.
Revolution! Freedom !

This will be current for today only, but if you have a Spanish TV channel, turn to it for better visual coverage of the Miami protests going on now. American TV has the usual visual opium.

Can't understand most of it (two years of Castillian Spanish was YEARS ago), but the pictures do the 1,000 words thing.

Lots of Cuban flags, with American flags flown upside down (distress signal). Glad to see that when both flags are on one staff, the American is still first.

See lots of 250+ lb. cops keeping the streets unblocked (in NYC cops on horses were used to move the crowd

) with riot squads on standby.

About every 15 minutes they are showing the now famous picture of Elian being taken at gunpoint (wish I had the royalties on that shot). Another one is the shot of the female agent with the kid and a bunch of agents behind her boiling out of the house. Some good stills were taken.

DC

I have fired a 9mm H&K MP5. The reciol is relatively light and the muzzle rises straight up if you stay on the trigger too long. Of course I have never fired one one handed.

Thanks Hard Ball.
I take it you are inferring that the muzzle direction is unpredictable when firing one-handed full-auto?

Zip- All of the MP-5s I've seen have had the selector on the left side of the receiver; naturally the side not visible in this photo. I'm not sure if HK or possibly another entity such as Vollmer made any ambi-selector option available. I sure can't see any sign of a selector in this photo. This is all just too much. I can't believe what I'm seeing. This is not the country our forefathers died for.

Oatka,

If resistance was in order, I believe it should have been on the lines of the Civil Rights disobedience of the 60's. I personally would have had lines of peaceful people, hands linked, around the home.

This is another example of the militarization of America's police. Bill the Degenerate and Butch Reno are saying that ninja cops are the order of the day and violence is good when negotiations stop. So, thanks for all the bullsh.t about community policing. God, I'm glad to no longer be a part of law enforcement. Dem. John Dingle was right: jack-booted thugs.

What possible justification can there be for this kind of action.I have more fear at this point of law enforcement then I do criminals. That in itself makes me sad and sick. This treatment of people by our goverment is going to come to a head one of these days and then KB.

To all of you who are crying about the way the US government handled this issue: I say about damn time. The child was an illegal alien in our country--that is it plain and simple! The INS officials are constantly fighting this battle on the borders. Nobody cries or whimpers when illegal drug traffikers are busted or vanloads of illegal aliens are caught attempting to gain access to our country. How is this different!! What would you like for us to do next? Allow the kid to stay? Well then we would be hypocrites and have to open our borders to everyone. Where do we draw the line!? The kid belongs to his father...not the uncle! The majority of you whining have probably never served proudly in our countries armed forces. We have died protecting our borders so whiners like you can rant and rave with the freedom of speech you have not earned! We, the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines have fought to give you this! You are just taking it all for granted. If you don't like this WONDERFUL country we live in, then pack your bags and GET THE HELL OUT! Go to Cuba, Russia or any place at all outside our borders. In about a week you will be crying to be let back in! You can only take advantage of the things you have. Once they are gone, you are S.O.L.! In my opinion, it is more of a shame how long was spent negotiating in the first place. Elian was basically being held hostage. Should have happened sooner!
