I've narrowed my 9mm selection down to 2 brands...Need Help!!

So true Skans

You guys have been a great help, I guess because I just joined I can't "quote" some of the things you guys have wrote

At the end, it seems as if no matter which way I go, I made a good choice so maybe buying both then see which I like better is the best way to go

Does the PPQ Navy model with threaded barrel change anything for you guys??

I'm a tall guy so have pretty big hands...I dont think either gun will be a problem for me to handle.

It's always best to try both if at all possible and see if one works better for you. As mentioned two totally different trigger systems. Walther PPQ would be a better option for concealed carry size wise if that was ever a consideration though not sure of holster availability for the PPQ with a threaded barrel.

I have the Walther PPQ and just love it. I tried a P09 and it was a nice pistol but I already have a few DA/SA pistols I prefer more such a my SIG P226 and HK P30LS.

FYI new CZ comes with a five year warranty and Walther PPQ comes with lifetime warranty to original owner.

Not sure why Glocks "everyone has them" is a problem? Glocks make terrific pistols if they work well for one.

Both have adjustable grips so they should fit most hand sizes. I wear L to XL gloves and I like the medium back strap in most guns.

I prefer the PPQ M1 the most because of the paddle magazine release. Noting wrong with the Navy's threaded/extended barrel if it does not bother YOU.

... I did not select any of the the Glocks because everybody has them...

I don't know if that's a wise reason to summarily dismiss them! :D When looking for a handgun I would include Glock, however that doesn't mean you have to choose one.

Not to be a jerk, but it's time to get away from the computer and get to a range that rents some guns, any guns, and try some. Don't "buy both". Use some of the money you would have spent on the second one to figure out the one for you.

One range trip with Glock 19 and Sig 2022 was enough to convince me I did not care for DA/SA triggers and that has been confirmed with other pistols. You might be just the opposite, but it's not something you can learn by more research.

Is there a clear winner?

I would say the clear winner is the one everybody seems to have...

I did not select any of the the Glocks because everybody has them

To me thats plenty of reason to get one...

I'm relatively new so need some help/advice.

My advise starts at the gun range with renting both. Do your research on the advantages of a hammer fired DA/SA gun or the advantages of a striker fired gun. Make sure you rent one of each and that will help guide your decision. My preference is the striker fired rout. So I would choose the Walther. But the CZ is a great gun too.

If it was up to me I would say buy a glock 19 +1000 rounds of 9mm and learn to shoot with one of the most popular guns ever made and then decide if you need anything else. But I am one of those everybody's who have glocks. I also have many other guns but I always always always suggest a glock 19 as a first 9mm. The walther is a great choice as well.

The advise about renting guns at the range is very good. Reading through this thread shows that inside any given spectrum of guns (quality/price range) there are many variances due to personal preference. Its nice to have choices :)

One thing that you didn't give was what you planned on doing with this gun. Home defense, range toy, carry gun, each can put a different slant on what the best tool for the job is. For example I carry a Glock 19 every day at work, I hate the thing for many reasons but I shoot it well even though it feels like I am dancing with a fat chick when its in my hand. The trigger sucks but is workable. I carry it because it is reliable, cheap and is exposed to some pretty nasty chemicals. I do not want to trash one of my Sigs.

As a night stand gun I will not use it. I can not see trying to get a hold of it in the nightstand,in the dark, mostly asleep and hook the trigger inadvertently. Now you have an AD just waiting to happen.

Outside of work I carry a DA/SA Sig. The "dreaded" DA pull is not a thing other than putting rounds through it to understand the first shots feel. In a defense situation the distance is likely going to be short so the whole DA thing becomes a non-issue. If you can't hit COM at 15' the DA trigger is not your problem. Longer distance/more time, cock the hammer and have the SA sweetness.

If its only a range toy all that matters not.

If there are kids around an external safety adds an extra level of protection there over a simple trigger pull of a striker fired, or a heavy DA pull. This is until they are old enough to be taught, kids add a dynamic to having a gun around that should be thought about. All the different systems need to be learned to the point of muscle memory. Arguably an external safety can cause issues under stress but again training helps to mitigate this.

You have obviously narrowed to quality handguns which is a good thing. Buy cheap and you stand a high likely hood of buying again. Buy once, cry once.

If you go range renting, try a Sig 320. I have heard a LOT of good things about them and the pricing seems to be lined up to be in Glock's face.

Good luck and have fun testing.

Actually, we don't have quote buttons here, and that's on purpose. Anybody in your thread who has quoted another poster has had to work at it.

It's OK to not want a Glock. They're good guns, but there are lots of good guns that fall into the "full-sized, polymer 9mm" class, just like the two you listed. I don't own either of the guns you've listed. That said, each comes from reputable companies and has its fair share of devotees.

I'd say it's time for you to go the range. We can sit and type about various guns all day long, but at the end of the day, you really need to shoot them. We can't tell you what feels best in your hand.

Thanks Indawind

Spats, you're right like many others. I'm gonna try these 2 guns at a range if they have them this weekend hopefully.

Should be a productive understanding the difference between these two.

Trust me, I don't hate Glocks at all. I'm just one that kinda shy away from the masses. i like to talk about things that others don't have, not in a snobbish way at all, just like to expand my horizons a little.

Oh, I get it. To be honest, rabid fanboyism is one of the things that kept me from giving Glocks a serious look for years.

GOOD NEWS!! I HAVE MADE A DECISION BETWEEN THE PPQ M2 and the CZ PO9

I went to the local range about 10 mins from me
They had the CZ P09 and Walther PPQ M1

Yes I was looking and comparing the CZ P09 vs. Walther PPQ M2
But at least this gave me a baseline

I CHOSE THE CZ P09

The P09 just seem to
1. load better
2. bigger which I liked
3. less recoil
4. seemed more accurate

The quality just felt better

Now, I'm not a gun expert so maybe my opinion is not the best to trust but nonetheless I wanted to THANK EVERYBODY FOR THEIR INSIGHT!!

There is a definite feel to each of the trigger systems mentioned. You really need to try both. Buy the one you feel more comfortable with.

I have several of each trigger systems, not the models of guns you mention. My personal preference is DA/SA with a decocker for carry. For range and target shooting in general, I prefer SA: 1911, SIG X-Series, etc..

Yet, I carry a HK p7 which has a striker firing system with a squeeze grip which cocks and decocks the striker. But, the trigger is SA. The best of all worlds?;)

Jabba It was a glock 19 I didn't like the grip and got the glock knuckle. PPl in the glock forum said take a dremel to the underside of the trigger guard. I thought what???? I shouldn't have to do that with a new pistol nor was I going to. I also didn't like the mushy trigger it had to go.
