It's official: Kansas passes Right to Carry bill!

tulsamal...

the language in the bill that I saw said it goes into effect 1 January 2007...not soon enough for your trip, I fear.

Congrats to the nice Kansas folk, looks like the legislature listened to the people and voted to override the govenor. Its another victory for the gun rights movement, the anti-gun crowd is in a full retreat now. Looks like Nebraska is next with their CCW bill, the govenor there has already stated he will sign it.:D

Updates? The Brady campaign is about as good at updating their website as they are at logically thinking through the issues they scream about.

ASSAULT WEAPONS
Are there limitations on assault weapons and magazines? No

Colorado - No state restriction on the sale or possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons like the AK47 and Uzi. Assault weapons are as easy to buy as hunting rifles. No restriction on the sale or possession of rapid-fire ammunition magazines that can fire up to 100 bullets without reloading. Federal law does prevent the sale of some assault weapons and rapid-fire magazines manufactured after 1994, but the federal law will sunset in 2004 unless Congress and President Bush renew it.

By the way ... what's a "rapid fire" magazine? Sounds like a copy of newsweek soaked in gasoline!

flying monkey season

Nice to see this happen. It goes to show that most people can get behind a CCW law as long as certain criteria are involved. If you just add simple things like taking a safety class, being a citizen, being over 21, and not being a violent offender I think most people will say "sounds okay to me". Now Kansas citizens won't be left at the mercy of those damn flying monkeys (I intend to beat that reference into the ground). :D

Come On Wisconsin!!!!!!
Run your governor out of office or vetoing it, and you would have ccw.....
As for Illinois, his highness, er I mean the rabid anti-gun Chicago's Mayor Daley seams to run the state and the real governor just steps in line.

Having some roots in Western Kansas, I'm very glad to hear this. It's good to see someone came to their senses.

Outstanding! Way to go Kansas!:D Packing.org says their server is too busy to let you on at this time! On to Nebraska and Wisconsin! :D

Victory in Kansas

Both houses over-rode the Govenor's veto of a CCW law yesterday making Kansas a CCW state. :D

Many thanks to our Attorney General, Phil Journey, himself a pro-gun advocate.

Now my only problem is what to carry. My handguns are limited to a CZ52, a 1936 Nagant revolver, and a Ruger .22 target pistol.

Which one of these do you think would be best ?

Or please suggest an inexpensive alternative (I say inexpensive because I consider any weapon used in self-defense to be as good-as-gone once the police arrive at the scene).

Any advice woule be appreciated.

Take a look at the map on the NRA site linked above.

It's beautiful, just beautiful.

Let's face it, though.

The chance of California, Illinois, New York, and New Jersey going from yellow-bellied to red-blooded American in our lifetimes is pretty damned slim.

The Brady Bunch must look at that map and just freak out.

pro-gun attorney general made the difference

I believe the key to Kansas getting CCW was having an Attorney General who is pro gun-rights - Phil Journey.

Phil takes a lot of grief for his stand on some issues but holds the line and then some.

Nothing like a pro-gun lawyer in high places to protect our freedoms.
