It's just a .22!

I own a Beretta 70 S in .22 caliber - it's 20 to 30 years old and very deadly.

This model .22 was carried by Israeli Mossad & Israeli Sky Marshals for years.

It's accuracte and has a nice "feel" to it.

:)

Just tagging on.

1.) I took a grazing (I think that was what you call it) 22lr to the left lower leg due to a friend's ND when I was about 17. I haven't completely forgotten how much it hurt or how much it bled (A lot. Both.). Or how much I wanted to kick his careless b***.

2.) I've had a few friends (not me of course) for whom the .22 short was the preferred round for deer and I don't remember missing any. I mean, I don't remember them missing any.

Best,

Will

Never underestimate what an uneducated shooter might do. One time me and 3 buddies went squirrel hunting. Me and one guy finished up and we were sitting on the hood of his car. We heard a whirrr go past our heads and before we could think another splat bounced off the car hood right between us. We hit the ground as fast as we could. One of the other guys was shooting at an old refrigerator between us and him and the 22s were ricocheting right at us.
I was a kid back then. Now I mostly hunt alone or with people I know real well.

This is why I hate the comment, "If you shoot somebody with a .22/.25, you'll just make them mad."

That's a big 10-4. And to think people hate a 22mag:confused:. Go figure. Like a lot of people say nothing smaller than a 38. Yeh right!. This boy don'ts wants to get shot wit none of dem.
I definately do not feel under guned with my 22mag.

.22 short was the preferred round for deer

Just to keep this in proper perspective...a good friend of mine whom I would never doubt told me that he knows a gent who took two Elk (separate occasions) with a 22 mag, both head shots and both DRT.;)

Brother-In-Laws!!! A couple of years ago I gave my brother-in-law a pocket knife for Christmas. I told my wife "I bet he cuts himself within a minute of opening it." ...it took less than 20 seconds.

man all I can think about is my old target holder, PT4x4's 2 layers of 3/4" ply and really big holes in the back of it. the 22's did more damage than the " larger " calibers.

A buddy of mine told me of a friend of his that was out shooting with some folks and someone racked a .22 caliber semi-auto pistol and it slam fired. Unfortunately it was facing Rusty and it hit him in the stomach. Rusty lived to tell tale but it floored him instantly, he said it felt like a hot poker was run through him. Rusty is 6' 2" and weighs 240 lbs and when he went down he could not get up.
The bullet did go nearly through him and is still lodged near his spine. It is indeed a serious round.

It's a common misunderstanding that 22LR isn't dangerous or that they can kill someone and quite frankly they can and do easily. My friend Ray at the VFW did two tours in Vietnam in the Special Forces and he carried a silenced 22 pistol and told it was his favorite weapon.

C'mon Guys, It really was only a .22

My mothers second husband was killed by a .22LR. He was having a party at his house and some of his druggie friends were there. Some sort of argument ensued and his 'friend' shot him in the head, rolled him into a carpet and left him in a closet.

Dumb people just get dangerously dumber when guns are involved.

There's been many hogs killed with .22's. A man I know was killing hogs. He had 2 nearly grown Sons. He had killed the hogs and they were scalding them to scrape the hair off. The Boys got into a argument and one threw a dipper of scalding water in the others face. When he got to where he could see, he grabbed the .22, that had killed the hogs, and shot his Brother, and killed him. A well placed .22 bullet will even kill a Cow. When I was growing up, the .22 was the only Rifle Caliber we had. It was used for all kinds of game hunting and for hog killing. Don't under-estimate what the .22lr is capable of.

Always good to remember that in self defense handguns you go to the bigger calibers for more STOPPING power, not more KILLING power.

.22 will definitely kill, and in fact (as somebody else has pointed out here, I forget who, sorry) it was (or is?) a preferred assassination weapon of the Mossad, among others.

It's just that the fact the adrenaline-pumped sleazeball coming at you is going to die three minutes after you shoot him doesn't give much comfort if he stays on his feet long enough to crush your skull with a tire iron first. Killing isn't the issue, slamming him hard enough to make him go down NOW is the issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if the .22 had killed more people than anything else just because it's so common, so often used by beginners, and so underestimated. But it's deadly enough, for sure. As far as that goes, around this town a few years ago the Conservation Officers searched out a local kid who killed a whitetail buck with a .177 pellet gun. If it looks like a gun and acts like a gun, you have to treat it with the respect of a gun. Except maybe soft-air, and perhaps somebody will pop up here with a horror story about THAT.

even air-soft is dangerous to your eyes. Unfortunately easy access too guns like air-soft guns and paintball guns create dangerous habits with the people using them. Any projectile should be respected but its usually not the case.
