Ishapore 2A1

I haven't fooled with the gun yet guys, I'm going to have to find a way to make the magazine lock up into the receiver better.

Well guys... I am just not feeling this rifle at this time.

Hear me out: I more or less bought it on a whim. I've never fired a Lee-Enfield, and truth be told I prefer the feel of a Mauser or Mosin Nagant cock on opening action. I thought it would be cool to own a ".308 Enfield" but since it's not so safe to use common .308 ammo, I'd rather just shoot my Mosins which I totally love and the ammo is much cheaper.

That, coupled with the issues I'm having with the gun, are why I just put it on Gun Broker. I originally got the rifle for a great price, so am hoping to flip it for a profit. I'll use the money to buy a different gun that I will think more thoroughly about before purchasing!!

"since it's not so safe to use common .308 ammo"

You haven't read well. The rifle is perfectly safe with .308 and 7.62........they are the same thing.
It's too bad you gave up so easily, the big problem is the aftermarket mag you're using. An original mag should lock up tight enough.
Oh well, someone else will enjoy it.

Yes, mine is an original magazine. It is not matched to my gun however. I think I am going to use the money to buy an M48 Yugo Mauser. Like I said, I like the operating system better, and ammo is as cheap or cheaper than .308/7.62 NATO so it makes sense for me.

Just in handling the gun, I just don't like it that much, and don't like the cock on closing action of this Enfield pattern gun. I am sure someone out there who appreciates them will enjoy this rifle for what it is. In the meantime, I'll stick to my Mosins and Mausers.

It's JMHO. YMMV.

about the paint. The black paint was literally mass sprayed on as a preservative when the rifles were mothballed. Most folks that restore milsurp rifles remove the black paint along with the copious amounts of cosmoline that the rifle was also soaked with.
(a good way to get rid of the cosmoline in the summer time is to wrap it in Saran wrap, place it completely in a black garbage bag and lay it on concrete in the sun. It then becomes a 'rinse and repeat' until you finally get most of it out)

The Ishapore was actually used in combat by the Indian Army against the Chinese in 1962. For those of you have have or who have seen the Ishapore 2A, you might have noticed that the rear sight goes out to 2000 meters!!!!

The sights were utilized by a massed formation of (Indian) troops firing at an enemy force that was usually hidden by intervening terrain like a hill top or ridgeline. They would all fire as fast possible (with practice, 40 rounds a minute are easy) and the bullets would fall like rain on the Chinese troops. It was quite confusing to the Chinese who were not sure what kind of weapon was firing at them.

I pretty much stick to 7.62 NATO surplus on my Ishapore. The rifle is patterned off of the No 1 Mk 3 Enfield and was really well made using modern day metallurgy. I wouldn't hesitate to us .308 if it was necessitated by some emergency.

I never cease to be entertained by the myriad of different (and all good) ways that people remove cosmoline. Though it is getting rarer and rarer to need to do so.

Y'all are making me wish I'd kept that 2A Ishapore I had, which had been "jungle-carbine-ized" to look like a No. 5, with a 17" bbl & flared flash hider, Ashley Outdoors forward scout mount (rock solid), with scope, & nice recoil pad. It was the ultimate "truck long gun", I felt.

I've since sold the rifle off for a nice profit.

I really wasn't impressed with the gun, feed issues aside.

Call me a nut, but I like my Mosin Nagants quite a bit more. I used the money to buy a NICE Mosin Nagant M38. Better rifles IMHO, but that's just me. Again, call me crazy if you want to.
