Is the Phoenix HP22 the best CHEAP semi auto range toy?

If you reread my post #12 I was interested in them till their website stated only standard velocity ammo. If they have frame cracking problems its most likely because shooters shot bulk high velocity ammo in them. And I have never seen a negative review of them. I recommended the ruger because it will shoot everything and have resale value instead of a gun with a diminishing value.

when I saw they made a 25acp I would have bought one if they offered the longer barrels for it like for the 22lr. I don't know why nobody makes a 25 auto with a 3-4" barrel.

Like the Taurus 22Poly. That didn't stop my from buying one, and it is a great little pistol. Lots of fun plinking, and I guess a decent SD gun in a pinch.

For about double the money you can find a used ruger standard model

But at double the price would it be a cheap range toy?

That's an easy one to answer......No public interest. Anemic, relatively expensive round.

You guys all make some very valid points and I truly appreciate it. I wasn't expecting to hear anyone say it was a Hammerli for 130 bucks. I'm still probably going to pick one up just because I don't have one. Like I said I read alot of reviews and blogs, watched alot of videos maybe even ALL of the Phoenix vids on YouTube lol. And the general consensus was they are pretty good. I wanted to hear what the TFL brethren had to say. For some odd reason I like cheap guns and I guess I'm drawn to them for the shear novelty of it. And I view them as part of firearms history just as well as the big named fine firearms we all love. I mean the Saturday night special so to speak has been around probably as long as gun powder lol.

[emoji3] I know lol. I have quite a few not so expensive guns. Some of them I've never shot. This Little Phoenix will get shot a plenty.

I can understand that. I'm drawn to a few fairly cheap (as in inexpensive) guns as well -- like Maks, Toks, CZ 52s, CZ 82s, Polish P-64s and P-83s, etc. I'd actually like to get a Hi-Point in .40 or .45 at some point, just so I can have the ugliest gun made in modern memory (but I refuse to pay more than $100 total to get one). But even in the case of the Hi-Point, I don't fear that the gun is going to come apart after a few magazines. Hi-Points are crude, but they're quite robust enough to last a while.

But anyway, if you want the Phoenix, $130 is pretty small potatoes. And at least it's just a .22, so it's probably not likely to embed shards of zinc in your or your daughter's face if/when it lets go. :D

Austin, EVERYONE needs a couple zinc bricks in their collection. I have a C9 and a POWER DRILL (Hi Point 45) LOL and youre right it is the most ridiculous looking thing I've ever seen, It looks like my Dewalt cordless drill. Heck Hi Point even put what looks like a battery on the bottom of the magazine. :D BUT the dang thing shoots great and is reliable (with my massaging of the internals of course). Sometimes it doubles as the anchor for my little aluminum fishing boat hahah J/K. And yeah I love my milsurp pistols. That CZ82 is my baby, what a freaking outstanding 9X18 pistol that thing is. As far as other cheapies I have an old Chrome Lorcin 25 still in the box. Nope never shot it but its pretty cool looking, all bling blingy. Heck I'm even thinking of getting the other zinc bricks just because (JA Nine, CS and FS Cobras, etc.) why, I don't know. Just because.

Haha, I know -- it's like they recognized the resemblance when they got done designing the pistol and figured they should just go all the way at that point.

Yes! Have had two of them. They worked far more reliably than my Sig Mosquito or P22 Walther. And you can shoot surprising groups with it. Wore one out and they simply replaced it. Great little guns.

Thank you sigxder for the reply, I too had a Sig Mosquito and if I wasn't feeding it CCI Minimags (which Sig does recommend them) it wasn't happy, which got old quickly. I figure for as cheap as they are and they get mostly great reviews, why not. They are probably like a Hi Point, people that hate on them. Simply do so from a price point or hearsay and have never owned or shot one. They hear the company is owned by the ring of fire family and immediately judgement is handed down. I'll get one and report back how it does.

"You can find a used Taurus PT22 for right around $150."

I think I paid $125 for mine (used). It's a Beretta clone with a tip-up barrel. It goes bang every time. I am not thinking it will wear out anytime soon. Also, it's a good-looking gun: chrome plated with rosewood grips. :)

PT-22 is a great pistol. Love mine. Trigger is long
and a little heavy but not too bad.

Taurus would have a real winner if they made a 3 or 4
inch barrel option. Something you could change out quick.

All the Best,
D. White

I agree, DWhite. If they made one with a longer barrel I would buy it.

Instead I got a NIB Sig Mosquito... for only $199... and it is a total piece of junk.

Is it ironic that the Taurus is a much better pistol than the Sig?

I guess it's the difference between a Beretta design made in a Beretta factory versus one that Umarex designed and built.

True, I had a Mosquito and CCI mini mags was what it shot. That PT22 is double action whereas the Beretta is SA/DA the beretta is way more dough though. Wonder why Taurus just didn't make the PT22 a 100% copy. The very best 22lr hand gun I've ever owned was a Beretta Mod. 70 I kick myself all the time for selling that guy

The Hi-Points aren't the most beautiful guns, but there are a lot of ugly guns. (The Colt 2000 didn't have a lot going for it, either, and unlike the Hi-Point it was not easily shot well...)

I'm with ya Walt, people can say what they want but that C9 is an accurate critter. I've done alot of massaging on mine and it shoots great. If Hi Point would just splurge a weeeee bit more on the mags, that would make me very happy!!
