Is RUGER the Rodney Dangerfield of firearm companies...they get no respect...

Rugers may not be at the top in any particular category but it's hard to imagine a single manufacturer that makes as many quality guns in EVERY category. If you were to just stick with Ruger you could get solid quality SA revolvers, DA revolvers of every size, compact CC semi-autos, full-size semi-autos and a pretty good 1911. And you would save a lot of $$ while you were at it. I'd be happy with that.

The one thing I don't like about Ruger is everything appears to be designed to be California compliant. I love the new SR9c but there's no way I'd buy a 10 round CC pistol when there are similar models (S&W / XDM) with the same grip length or smaller that have higher capacity. As a Texan, the thought of being California compliant chaps my hide.

Rugers tend to have a rather "utilitarian" image, which doesn't promote the perception of being high end, even though their quality is very good. I can speak first hand of the excellence of their rifles and revolvers, and the MkIII .22 LR at least, although I wouldn't rate them as high with semi-autos combaty style pistols in comparison yet. There are several brands of semi-auto I'd go to first before buying a Ruger.

I think I can recall Mas Ayoob's agency issuing Ruger 'P' series pistols and seen him in photos with them. Probably not real common across the country, but they are rugged, reliable guns that offer good value to smaller agencies that can't afford to rotate their guns as often as larger ones.

I'm a big fan of their big bore revolvers for hunting and outdoors utility. They are built like tanks and can take abuse that will quickly shorten the life of the highly polished and refined Colts and Smiths.

The OP tried to say that the Ruger .22 pistols didn't measure up to the S&W Mod 41 that costs many times more than what the Ruger does.

To this I would say there many many times more happy Ruger .22 owners than there are Mod 41 owners.

It's the same type of comparison.

For the money, I'd rather have two P-90s than one Sig P220.

Well, the XDm compact does offer 13 rounds, but the grip is longer than the SR9c's grip, thus making it less concealable.
And although the M&P offers 12 rounds, I would still take the SR9c just for the trigger alone.

I keep a Ruger P 85 in the nightstand next the bed. If that doesn't say respect for Ruger I don't know what does.

I do have a lot trouble getting on the 10/22 bandwagon. More of a Marlin model 60 fan when it comes to my .22

Ruger P-95,,,
14 Ba-Jillion security guards can't be wrong.

Amen to that--I call mine my 'Tank Gun.' I think you would have to actually think about devising a viable plan needed to 'torture test' this thing as it's virtually impervious to wear and tear.

I do not own a single revolver (I know, it's plain outright 'UnAmerican' and I must plead Guilty as charged by openingly acknowledging such. They say the first step to any problem resolution is recognition so give me some credit...;)

Seriously though, I will be purchasing some revolvers in the very near future as I would like to have a modest but yet diverse collection which, absent a whell-gun, I feel is currently incomplete.

So my question for all of you revolver guys that CCW one as your primary piece is do you use speed-loaders (back in the day I was going to get a .45 acp or 9mm revolver only because I have lots of corresponding ammo on hand but found the moon-clips quite cumbersome, though from watching Jerry Miculek work his speed-shooting magic with his tricked-out S&W 625 one would never know it). I am so used to carrying a spare mag or two and I am assuming that speed-loaders would be the same answer on the revolver side but perhaps more cumbersome? Just a thought as I read this very interesting thread.

CAPTAIN, you OBVIOUSLY haven't spent much time on gun forums. Ruger gets a lot of respect on every forum that I have ever visited, even the Smith & Wesson forum.

The Smith and Wesson guys can't bad-mouth any other make since the Governor came out. :p

I've had nothing but respect for Ruger and their customer service. Years ago I bought my Dad a blued 3" GP100 which he loves. I also bought a DAO SP101 and New Single Six for myself - I've had nothing but good to say about the gun and the company. They make quality products and stand behind them - really can't get much better than that.....:D

Ruger gets a lot of respect in the gun community.

Ruger developed a manufacturing approach (cast) that allowed them to out compete the two big handgun manufactures (Colt, S&W). They built guns that functioned very well with measureable improvements over some of the lesser priced competition beginning in the 1950's and it continues today.

I was not a Ruger fan for years. I own Ruger handguns and rifles. They all work. With the introduction of the GP-100, I began to take an interest in their products. At that time, I owned a Mark II and 10/22 and had no interest in any of their older revolvers. The GP opened my eyes and I began looking backwards at their firearms and have been favorably impressed. I still prefer S&W and Colt handguns, but Ruger does a pretty darn good job. My last two firearms purchased were Rugers....

It's funny. About 10 years ago, I looked in my safe an saw quite a few Rugers. I was never a brand loyal guy, just thee each suited a purpose.

Now, I have only one, the 1022.

Sold the MKII because it was too heavy to train the kids on and in PA you can't hunt with a semi, so I just didn't need it. Over the years, one's taste will change. I am more drawn to the High Standards, S&W Model 41s and other nicely blued, accurate 22s.

SA revolvers are fun for a while...

I'll never sell my SP101 - love that gun, but S&W double action triggers are smoother.

That 1022 was the first rifle I ever baught on my own, so it's a keeper and a great 22 for sure.

I think their 9mm/45 autos are clunky, but to each his own.

Some folks got ticked at Ruger when they sold out with the stamping of warnings on their barrels and other politically correct actions. Especailly the SA revolver crowd, because that wantd authentic looking revolvers and the stamping was horrendous to them. As far as other reasons, I think like any other company, some of their products are hit and some not so much.

An SR carbine....
Everyone should write the CEO on that this minute.
I would take a very serious look at the whole series if there was a carbine.

When it comes to function Ruger is hard to beat.
