Is RUGER the Rodney Dangerfield of firearm companies...they get no respect...

I dont see too many people nowadays with a Ruger. In online forums, no one ever posts a picture of their Ruger and I dont see them at the range. No Rugers in the holster of any LEO I know. I dont see the usual gun rags writing about their fascination with a Ruger.

So Im wondering if Ruger is the Rodney Dangerfield of firearm companies? It simply gets no respect.

Feel better?

Well their LCR is a darn good snubbie. I got one instead of a snubbie Smith, even though it costs more than the Smith. Better grip, better trigger.

There seems to be more "good" guns out there ...than there is junk these days...

Ruger is making decent guns for the money ..../ are they high end, no ....but they have their market just like the other mfg's ...

Really? I see the following discussed, used, for sale in stores, and posted about (mostly with respect) all the time:

Ruger M77 Hawkeye
10/22
Mini-14
LCP
LC9
SR1911 (many people are desperate to get their hands on these)
Mark III
22/45
LCR
SP101
GP100
Redhawk
Super Redhawk
Single-Six
Security Six (not in production anymore)
Blackhawk
Super Blackhawk
Vaquero

So that is what? About 3/4 of their guns... What is the problem exactly?

I own imho two of their best models, the gp100 and the redhawk. They are my two best guns. I never have to worry about shootability, durability or reliability with my rugers. My smith 629, however, has been sketchy lately.

i own several and think highly of Ruger
SR1911
SR9
SR9c
LCP

all have been 100% guns.......Taurus is is the gun that gets no respect, understandable

I'd say that of the biggest of the big companies, it has fairly little respect. Although they don't have the amazing historical precedence like, say, Colt.

IMO, If Colt were a recently introduced company and could not bank off the fact that they sold the original 1911, SAA etc, they probably wouldn't be that popular. How good are their current 1911s? I hear a lot of problems with them. Are their AR-15s that much better? Both rhetorical questions. Not to mention the legacy of Sam Colt.

I'd say Ruger has very nice weapons. They don't have the same fame as Colt, Smith and Wesson, and arguably HK, and to me it seems that adds to it.

I don't know about them not being respected, but Ruger is known more for their revolvers and all the people around my age (31) and younger are into semi-autos. I have a GP100 myself and love it though! I was at the range the other day and this guy probably younger than me was like, "excuse me, what caliber of gun is that you are shooting?" I think it was pretty loud to him. I told him he could try it, but he said it was too much gun for him, lol.

At the local Marine Corps Exchange, they sell semi-automatics almost exclusively, except from some .38 snubbies. Most of their prices aren't very good, but tucked back in the corner of one of the display cases is a lonely Ruger New Vaquero for $450. I'm going to double-check that it's the .45 Colt version, and if it is, it may be coming home with me at that price.

Rugers get respect and coverage. I would say that the P series autoloaders are a bit long in the tooth but most of the newer offerings are well thought of. I have a 3" bbl SP101 and would consider a Gunsite Scout rifle, for sure.

I know of several people who if they could... Would definately testify to the seriousness of a Ruger service six revolver.

Ruger gets alot of respect. They are known world wide for robust, dependable firearms at good prices. They just don't get all the accolades that the "fancier" and more expensive weapons garnish. I'm a big fan and have been for a long time.
I don't hear a whole lot of bad things about them either.

I suspect a number of people on this forum own or have owned one over the years - I have three. However, you are right they do not generate the emotion that GLOCKS, SIGS or HKs do, but is that because people disrespect Ruger or because they actually value them.

Almost any thread dealing with other manufacturers includes a certain number of “haters”. You know people who just love to chime in and say how ugly, unreliable, dangerous or overpriced your gun is. I have not noticed that nearly as much with Ruger. When they do say negative things it is usually about the late Bill Ruger personally and not really the hardware.

Really? The LCP, the LCR, the SR9, their take on the 1911 and one of the finest .357s on the market in the GP100?

In my opinion, Ruger is one of the most popular gun makers out there so I'm not sure where you've been hiding lately. They make great, affordable guns and back them up with great customer service.

Another typical thread!

Ruger LCRs have been flying off the shelves. They are an excellent carry piece.

Their LCP and SR9 are also highly regarded and very popular pocket pistols.

In the cowboy action and SASS arena the Vaquero is the most popular gun out there.

For hunting the single action Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks, and the double action Redhawks, Super Redhawks and Alaskans are the most common by far.

Many, many Ruger P-series autos are in use by law enforcement and are noted for their rugged reliability.

Where have you been?

(Forgot about the SP-101, GP-100, and interest in the "Six" series will never fade.)

Disagree. I see plenty of pictures of all sorts of Rugers. People sometimes even engrave them. And Ruger, the company, gets plenty of respect.

It depends on the particular model. Consider two discontinued models: Red Label shotguns didn't get any respect (and, IMHO, didn't deserve any) and their Old Army C&B revolvers ruled.

This LEO loves his Rugers, and the only reason I don't carry one while on duty is because we're required to carry the agency-issued sidearm [which is the Sig P220, a gun that has proven to me to NOT equal Ruger in terms of reliability]. When on my own time, it's Ruger all the way for off duty carry; either my 4" GP-100, or my P-90.
