Is Ruger dropping the LCP.380?

"I don't really mind the trigger on my early LCP, and as for the sights. what sights? Never use 'em! It ain't no target gun, or plinker. It is what it is, a pocket "belly gun" meant for short range point and shoot. Mine is plenty accurate @ 10 yards just being an extension of my hamd. Like pointing a finger at what I want to hit."

I agree 100%

The LCP has always been a huge hit, especially with female buyers. However I suspect that the Glock 42 has made quite a dent in sales, again especially among women. While it may be larger it's a lot easier to shoot, and the brand name is just as strong if not stronger.

If WVsig is correct that the $199 LCPs were mostly Gen1 pistols then it simply shows that a lot of distributors got stuck with inventory they couldn't easily sell after the improved models came out. While it's certainly possible I can't imagine Ruger coming out with a striker-fired version of what is essentially a deep concealment pistol. I'm not sure I'd want a tiny pistol with a light trigger in my front pocket just inches away from something I care about losing.

The only $199 pistols I have been able to confirm were Gen 1 guns were the ones being sold at Cabelas. Looks like a mixed bag and very vendor specific.

Sportsman Guide looked like Gen 2.

Gen 2 LCP Customs have also come down as low as $200-$220. I have considered picking one of these up but the lowest prices are in KY and about 2 hours away. I am not in a rush and I believe that this is the new pricing based on a MSRP of $249 for the standard Gen 2 and $269 for the Custom.

Thanks for the links WVsig. And the other information. I'm afraid if I actually saw one in the display case under $230, I mean if it was RIGHT THERE, it could be irresistible. (I've fired a gen 2 version a couple times and it seemed to be a solid performing little gun.)

I personally think Ruger is dropping the price due to embarrassment of being unable to maintain quality control on the plastic grip frame portion of the gun. Has anybody noticed the colors are no longer consistent? :D

I recently bit the bug around the holidays when Palmetto sent me an e-mail with the new price. I wasn't sure if it was a shell shocker sale, so I immediately grabbed my credit card. It is a great little pistol and not nearly as brutal to shoot as many people had me believe. The trigger is also totally adequete. Mine is a Gen 2 manufactured in 2015.

I can't really speculate as to why the massive price drop from Ruger, but it is pretty much public knowledge that the LCP is Ruger's best selling firearm. I anticipate that sales have slipped a little with the influx of copycat pocket pistols and the executives have decided to increase their revenue sheet by dropping the price. I have to tell ya, they may know what they're doing. It certainly worked.

Saw a Purple framed Gen 2 at the LGS today. It was already spoken for but was priced at $230 OTD. Sales tax in KY is 6%.

Gen 2s were introduced in 2012. I don't think anyone is 'blowing out' stock of gen 1s. I purchased 3 from as many companies during the first drop. All were gen 2s.

At least some of Cabelas were gen 1 according to multiple sources.

Went to the cabelas in Hazelwood Mo tonight to pick up a $200 lcp for my wife. SOLD OUT. Had signs all over the gun counter. Must have had many people come in looking for them. A few calls while I was there.

Cabelas doesn't seem to update their web site in anything like a timely fashion. Took a run over to one today (Tuesday) in the Twin Cities, MN and although the web site said the LCP was available in 'limited quantities' the clerk said they'd been sold out since last Thursday.

Same thing happened once before with a Remington Yellow Jacket .22 rifle. Web site said they had 'em. Store said they didn't.

Call ahead if you're looking for something in particular I guess.

Always fun to look around at stuff though so it was far from a wasted trip. Saw boxes and boxes of CCI Mini-mag .22LR at $5 a box of 100...if anybody wants 'em at that price they're welcome to them as I left 'em all alone.

Two guns in the same caliber. But not in the same class. Both are great guns, but one is twice the size of the other. I'm sure some people have decided between the two. But I wouldn't think it would be a big impact.

I picked up the LCP Custom for 215 just before Christmas. All LCP's have dropped in price. I have read a couple of different articles that said Ruger change the manufacturing process and they are cheaper to produce so that was the reason for the price drop.

I used the email the CEO feature on Ruger.com

We emailed back and forth about my inability to locate a stainless LCP online. Apparently he doesn't like online sales and is happy with this situation. I said I hate gun stores due to their gouging and clients.

However, he did say there are still producing product 03730.

Genuine disagree on the online purchases, but friendly enough.

I am 30. I can't imagine a person disliking internet purchases will have a long leadership career life once baby boomers start to fade away.

I wish I liked the look of stainless. I went with a blued version. I just hate the silver slide. Too bad ruger didn't just add a nice black finish to the slide to prevent rust however ever since I started waxing my blue guns I have never had hint of rust anywhere even when they are rained on.

I agree with you. However, the LCP/LC9 blue is particularly crappy. I think one pretty much forced to the stainless if one doesn't want rust...but that doesn't help the blued barrel in the stainless model.
