here's your fig leaf
“People need food, they need shelter. If someone has to sell their guns to get something they truly need, they are doing the right thing. Personally, I would rather be fed and unarmed than starving with a gun in my hand.”
I disagree with this as well as the comment that food is scarce in an urban environment. To quote Mel G. in The Patriot. “Dog is a FINE meat!” Pit bulls are indeed good for something. HA!
“You could say that guns are like any other tool you would consider buying. You start off not having much of anything and basically depend on Harbor Freight for your tools. As you continue to work with these tools, you notice which ones are are adequate for the job and which ones need upgrade. You save up for the better tools while the ones you have get the job done. After a while you will eventually have all good tools.”
I agree with this as well as the comment that this is the best analogy on this thread. I bought my first craftsman set almost a decade ago, with replacement in mind. These tools are still earning my “bread” so to speak. When one wears out due to over use, I replace it with high end, but that has only happened once or twice.
“4. The guns that nearly all of us sneer at and refuse to own. This is stuff like Hi-Point, Jiminez, Cobra, RG, Nagant revolvers, etc. Anyone can acquire one of these guns. Most of them aren't reliable or durable because the materials and workmanship aren't very…”
What the heck is wrong with a Nagant revolver??? I mean, other than the price of the ammo. It aint no poor mans toy. I’d lump it in with the Hi-point for defense, maybe, but not the others. I’ll take my Nagant, and you can have your Jiminez, cobra, ect. We’ll see who comes out in the end. No comparison.
Mark Milton, You are a GOD! Well said, and I bow before your awesomeness! I have never before agreed with what someone has said so completely here or anywhere. When I was 21, and working security, I still managed to purchase a good 9mm with a few extra mags. It’s all in what is important to you.
That being said, I would rather have the less expensive junk than nothing at all. I would try to make it better, and then trade it up, or save up and then sell it for accessories for the nicer gun that I saved up for. I have seen tips for making even the j-22 work better. It is what you are willing to spend your time and energy on. Some gun is better than none, just know your limitations.
