Is Bush turning in to Jimmy Carter?

Calling him Jimmy,,, wash your mouth out with soap

Miers has NO EXPERIENCE AS A JUDGE, yet she gets a "pass go, collect $200, go straight to the highest court in the land" card???

You might want to check history, around 10% of all supream judges were NOT judges before they were selected, it not new.

I thought up until recently historically most apointees wernt judges but lawyers or other proffssionals..even some that were just profs..

Agreed. But most of the best were Constitutional Attorneys; they'd practiced and reviewed Law for years; they'd argued before SCOTUS; they'd not been bureaucratic, semi-legal staff for the past 10 years.

Compared to Janice Rogers Brown (as one example), this is a VERY weak substitute....and I do not say that based on the portent for the Second Amendment solely.

The words "strict interpretation of the Constitution" mean nothing to the man who many of us voted for. In today's press conference, Avian Flu was brought up. GW, once again, pushed the agenda of having US Military Forces take over State Governments on Presidential discretion.

If this is not a frightening thought to all lovers of freedom, I don't know what is. If this is the "philosophy of the President" that we're supposed to embrace in a Blank Slate SCOTUS Justice, we need all be afraid.....very, very afraid.

Rich, I assume you read my comments on Bush and Power in the new nominations thread?

This is exactly the type of thing I was referring to. We have 2 years until the end of this presidency... That's assuming something of staggering proportions (=worse than katrina) doesn't happen.

With a Court that is known to support presidential policies and legislative enactments more often than not, with a new Chief Justice that is of dubious ideology and now Meir. Well, it's a safe bet that we should be extremely afraid.

The Avian Flu might be just the pandemic the doctor ordered.

Pointer, all I'm saying is, if you want to really change the court as Bush says, put in someone in their 40's or 50's that will be there 30+ years, God willing.

Do you all realize that only two American presidents have written books on hunting and only two American presidents have won Nobel peace prizes? And that one of them was Jimmy Carter, Plains, Georgia.

Accordingtome

Don't give up quite yet... hope springs eternal... :)

Maybe he will surprise us before he is done... Ya think?

I knew what you really meant... just pulling your leg.
I'm confident Justice Miers plans to live 30+ years... :D

I had the same thoughts in a discussion last night with my wife. She asked how much longer Bush had in office, and I told her I thought it was a lifetime appointment! Once the next 'big crisis' hits, I am certain Bush will want the US MIlitary in the streets to 'save' us. I can also see a day when it may become 'too dangerous' to hold elections, and Congress, or the Electoral College, will vote in a special session to keep his great leadership. Would the Supreme Court speak out against this?
