Inexpensive .45 ACP for CC

It's a local store on their web site, but until I get one tied down either buying one or laying it away I cannot tell the location, since I don't know how many they have on hand. Sorry I do hope you understand. I just found this out a couple of hours ago and can't get there until Monday.

I had a pt145 for several years. It was always reliable. I could hit ok with it and killed a feral hog with it but it wasn't easy to shoot. I would put it at the same difficulty level as shooting a snub nosed revolver double action only but with slightly less inherent accuracy. Several folks have tried to shoot it, including the guy who owns it now, and none have been able to shoot it as well as their other firearms. It's much easier for me to get good, fast hits with a subcompact Glock than it was with the PT145.

The PT145 did carry well and the sights didn't snag but it was difficult to shoot well.

If the Witness Compact is too big the Thunder most certainly will be. That only leaves the Pavona in the witness line.

Yep. Exactly why I want to shoot a model before I buy.

I carry a full size when I hunt, so this isn't an issue. I'm looking for a .45 carry gun now.

I showed the OAL of the Witness to be 7.3" OAL (4.8 High) and the Thunder 6.8" OAL, so I am still wanting to take a look. But the Thunder does show to be 5.1" High, so like you say it may be too big.

That only leaves the Pavona in the witness line.
I wish the Pavona came in .45 ACP, but even then the OAL is 7.3" so I think it would be too big as well.

I've got several family events coming up in the next three weeks. It may not be until after that that I can resume my search.

I have carried my PT-145 Pro since 2007 without issue. 10+1, very compact, and going on 8yrs and a few thousand rounds I trust this gun every single day with no worries. There are better guns but the PT-145 is a good handgun for the coin.

It's not about OAL on the Thunder compared to Witness. It's the width, double stack that has ambi controls. The OAL is one of the shortest in a .45

I hear you. Thanks. Of course, it's always a combination of many factors with both the pistol and my body, but for me and the way I dress the width of a double stack is generally not my biggest concern. I'll just have to try it to see for sure.

I second the Kahr CW45. Smaller and thinner than a G19. Feels good in the hand, points very naturally for me. Excellent handling and accuracy, for just a touch under $400. Maybe a bit more depending on your area. I have seen them NIB for 379 and as high as 425.

Another bonus. they accept o model mags, some may require slight modification but the few o mags ive tried worked perfectly with zero mods.

I can find Officer mags for ALOT less then the 30-35 dollar kahr mags.

Now for a little bit of sacrilege...

I personally love the Glock 38, the same size as the Glock 19 or 23, with 8-rounds of .45 GAP. Because the bloom is of the .45 GAP rose, you can find them very inexpensively on the used market. I bought mine for $350, UNFIRED.

I've never had big problems finding .45 GAP ammo, and get it in bulk from Georgia Arms for about the same price as .45 ACP.

For self-defense ammo, the price isn't much different, and I don't shoot a LOT of that.

I shoot my Glock 38 about as well as any .45 I've owned, and that includes a bunch of SIGs, several CZ-pattern .45s, a number of 1911s, etc. Were I competing with a .45, it would be the Glock 38. (The other guns might be a hair more accurate, especially for target shooting, but I get better results faster with the Glock 38.)
