Inexpensive 22 Plinker?

Which one fits your hand?

NEOS has a vary skinny grip,,,
S&W 22A has a very fat grip,,,
Ruger 22/45 has a medium grip,,,
Ruger Mk II and MK III have a medium grip.

They are all extremely good guns,,,
Choose the one that fits your hand the best,,,
Or the one you like the looks of better than the others.

They're all fine shooters and eat cheap ammo,,,
Way better than the Walther P22 or Sig Mosquito.

When my range has the .22 semi-shootout and BBQ get together,,,
You can hear the Sig and Walther owners cursing a lot,,,
The other folk just keep on shooting away.

I don't think my Beretta or my Ruger has ever jammed,,,
I know I've gone through over 7 bricks of federal bulk with them,,,
I know because I bought 10 bricks and have 2 and a partial still left now.

I'm not a fanboy of Ruger or Beretta,,,
Just reporting what I have experienced at the range.

I can't say I've never had a jam. But as long as they aren't too frequent, no problem. Get the gun that feels good in your hand and points naturally. But stick to the "name" companies if possible.

My favorite "plinker" is an old HS Victor but that'll bust your budget.

I am getting old. No, I AM old. Love the Victor. My Ruger Mark II replaced the Victor for a woods gun. Brought the Victor out of retirement and shoot both now. Yeah, I have a Bianchi holster for the Victor. Not a common holster these days.

I have to caution you on the Phoenix Arms HP22.

A good friend of mine has one, and it's a tie for the worst pistol I've ever fired. It's not unusual for it to jam on every round in the magazine, and it's absurdly inaccurate when it actually does fire.

They tend to come up a lot in the "Worst gun ever" threads as well.

What does he "HP" stand for ?????

. . . in the Phoenix .22 semiauto?

By the way I've had one for about 18 years . . . good fun gun.

I really like my Heritage Rough Rider. It is more accurate than I am. It's doesn't have a great finish and the sights are fixed but it is a plinker/armadillo gun that I don't have to treat too well. Good for canoeing, 4 wheeling or camping. And I just like the fact that it is a single action.

group17,
I'm going to have to pass on the pistol but thanks for the offer. I have handled several phoenix, jennings, ravens hi points etc and I'd rather stick to the Ruger's/Smiths etcs. Again, Thanks for the offer though!

As of now I'm looking at the Neo's, S&W's MK3/2's 94ss and the single sixs

As an owner of both a P22, and a Heritage Rough Rider, I will say I enjoy both. However, for a first time purchase I would strongly suggest the Ruger. Either the semi-auto or one of there excellent single action revolvers. Both are guns built for a lifetime of shooting, and also a reasonable investment.
My second suggestion in a semi-auto would be a Browning Buckmark, another excellent rimfire pistol.
