In this thread we advocate a capacity of 10 rounds or more.
Sorry 1911 advocates, but this is probably not your thread.

My main carry lately has been a Glock 21 which I carry appendix IWB + a spare magazine and 9mm in pocket as option #2.
If not the 21, then a Glock 23 (13 + 1 either way)

Disclaimer:
The Glock 43 or Kahr PM9 (and other pocket pistols) are okay for when we can't do better due to work attire, this applies to me on work days.

But when we are not limited by work clothing and can carry a decent pistol :D ...
Get in here. :)

I'll play. My EDC is an SR9c,10+1of 9 mm. I do occasionally carry an LCP, 6+1 of 380 when circumstances require.

CZ P-01 aiwb. Smartcarry holster allows a spare 26 round magazine next to it. Total count is 41 rounds. I also sometimes carry a pm9 on the ankle.

When feasible (usually, I can hide them pretty easily), I carry either a Glock 17 or 19 AIWB. So 18 or 16 rounds, plus an extra 17 round mag.

If not one of those, it's my G43. I don't feel too unarmed with only 7 rounds though.

High capacity is great, and I've carried a HiPower or G17 plenty of times.
But, I feel pretty well armed with a 6 shot 38spl or 357mag, too.

I often carry a 6-shooter, 44 mag, 45 or sometimes a 357, but about half the time I carry a handgun that holds 13-14. Right now I have on a 6 shot 45.
What I would grab, if I have over 4 seconds to prepare, holds either 20 rounds or 30 rounds. And they are rifles, in 223 7.62X39 or 308 Winchester.

What you fight with is less important than how well you shoot it. Rifles are a LOT easier to shoot accurately. And contrary to popular belief they are NOT slower to make a hit with at any distance over 2 yards Try this yourself against a stop watch and see.

Whose we? Do you have a gun in your pocket? Seriously though I am starting to think the same way. I have been carrying a CM9 or RM380 lately but I want to start carrying a little more firepower. I own a PT111 G2 that is 12+1 and I just picked up a Beretta PX4 subcompact that is 13+1. I would like to carry the Beretta regularly if it proves reliable. The Taurus is ok but it may be used as trade bait soon.

My work gun is a S&W M&P. 17+1. I have two extra magazines on my belt and two more in the trunk on my pull over plate carrier. Of course there is a long gun involved as well.

One adjacent agency switched back to the 1911 several years ago after carrying Glock 22s for a decade. The sheriff based his decision on a local meth head getting shot 7 times with the .40 (I don't know the locations of the hits) and still surviving upright long enough to stab a deputy. The meth head (and deputy) lived, although the meth head was killed later by another meth head but that is another story.

Is ten rounds enough? Who knows? Some days it may not be enough. There is no magic formula that catches it all. All I know is that if you shoot somebody 7 times with a CFP round than they should by all rights be out of the fight, likely permanently. If they are still in the fight it might be time to go find a bigger gun.

I almost never carry a full size when off duty. Most of the time I carry a Shield. This is a fine little gun that I equip with the 8 round magazine, mostly to provide a more positive grip in my larger hands. At my age carrying a full size on my belt all day gives me hip pain.

I like magazine capacity.My M+P 9C holds 12.

BUT!

If you figure on standing still and shooting 21 rds its likely not going to work out.
Moving to cover is a good idea. Likely 6 or 7 or 8 rds can get you to some cover. It worked with the Garand.
Then you put in a fresh mag.

I'm not disputing the value of magazine capacity. But its not everything.

my "hot weather/shorts" carry is a TCP, 6+1, in the front pocket.

My cooler weather carry is a PT111 G2 with 11 + 1 in a Tagua belt type leather holster.... the 12th is almost impossible to get in the mag...

For cold weather, I will carry the Canik TP9SA, with 17 in the mag.

I like as many rounds available as is possible to carry, and remain comfortably concealed.

In this thread I advocate carrying a gun. ;)

If every American carried a 5 shot revolver or 7 shot pocket 380 crime would be cut by 90% tomorrow.

Yes, there are much better guns than the options above for carry/fighting. But, the best gun in the world is the one you have on you.

Sometimes it's a 17+1 9mm TriStar T-120. Sometimes it's my 10mm Witness steel 14+1 (modified to 15+1). Sometimes it's the SAR K2 .45 14+1.I rotate these depending on mood, length of time I'll be out, and what I'll be doing. 50% of the time, though, I just take the quick and easy 9mm SAR B6PC 13+1. Just today I ordered a Kel-Tec P32 from Bud's. It will be in my pocket at all times as a BUG and be my carry piece when I'm only running down to the corner store in my sweats. Other than that it's 10+ at all times.

I have seen videos of shootings where the cop or good guy used more than 10 rounds before the bad guy stopped. Might not happen every time but........

this thread we advocate

when we can't do better

when we are not limited

We 1911 guys might

Whose we?

I love it when we speak in the majestic plural. It classes the joint up a bit...

It's all about your level of comfort (tolerance of risk?) . If I have a student that won't carry anything but a J frame with 5 shots - or leave the baby glock at home because it's a to much "hassle" to carry. The 5 shot is right for that person. I'd much rather have him or her at least carry a gun.
