In a pickle?

That's what I find disturbing. Being a one issue voter is pretty counterproductive, in my opinion.

Gun Rights and the 2A are more than a single issue. If a politician is against guns, it tells me all I need to know about him/her, and how they view other issues.

"How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual... as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of." -- Rep. Suzanna Gratia Hupp (Texas House of Representatives)

I'll vote my conscience, probably Republican. The Dems don't have a viable option in their future. I wish the Repubs would run GWB's little brother JEB.

There was a saying: If you're not a Liberal when you are young, you have no heart. If you're not a Conservative when you are older, then you have no brain!! I haven't seen a Democrat/Liberal/Progressive in many years that could even begin to make me consider supporting them. Listening (occasionally) to AirAmerica only reinforces my opinion. Flip-flopping Kerry, Bill Clinton (who just won't go away), Senator Hillary-ous, Al Franken, and Jerry Springer??? Give me a break!

I go for Conservative (Republican) principles every time: Lower taxes, less government intrusion, strong national defense.

I'm a Christian, a gun owner, a parent of three, and live in the midwest. You can probably figure out who I'll be voting for from there.

The Republicans have the moral high ground in regard to homosexuality and abortion, and I am not displeased with the handling of the war.

A direct line to God?

I'm all of the above as well. But just west of you! And we raised a little girl, now a successful mother and business woman because she was to be the victim of an abortion. And I'm married to the same woman for 30 years. And my father, a Silver and Bronze Star Medal recipient was unable to enjoy his children much due to the physical sacrifices made on the battlefield. I've never bought a lottery ticket and I don't drink or smoke. And I made it through the 60's without particpating in drugs.... ever!
Sounds rather red ,white and blue but has little to do with party affiliation.
Too often we tend to over simplify in this regard. Life and people are not that simple.

As far as Libertarian or other independents, they may have their minds right about the Second Amendment and the Bill of Rights, but they don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected to the offices that really matter - Governor, House of Representatives, Senator or President. (emphasis added by garand_shooter)

At last we've identified the one area of cooperation between Democrats and Republicans.

I'm wondering how much of a viable chance anyone running for the constitution party would have...It seems independent enough to not be bogged down in all the partisan crap while not seeming too much like a dang green party hippy. Something that all the young people might support while still sounding mature enough for all the old people-Genius!

You bet. Voting themselves pay raises, keeping a 3rd party out of the works will bring the Democrats and Republicans together.

 Since when does the conservative (republican) party promote lower taxes for anyone but the upper class and come even close to promoting smaller government??

I started voting Republican when I first voted for Nixon, I continued doing this up until 2004 when I voted Libertarian. I don't see any Republican coming down the pike for 2008 who will get my vote. It looks like McCain :barf: , Giuliani :barf: :barf: , Frist :barf: or Allen who I admit I don't know much about.

We presently are witnessing/experiencing the largest outlay of $$$$$ in the history of the globe. All done by one party and they "ain't" dems!
See, there's tax and spend.....and then there's spend and burrow.Though the later is much more stealth the results are devastating!
Watch and see the effects on the dollar, the sell off of USA assets, and the general economic hardships which will clearly be the burden of our childrens children for decades! This is no abstraction folks it's as real as the gun grab! It just flies under the radar until it's in your face!
As to less intrusive gov't....Presently this Administration is in your work place, your bedroom, your gunsafe, your DR's office and your place of worship.your library and there's no end in site. If we asked the "founding fathers" over for a beer, the first thing out of their mouths would be....Gee you remodeled...we didn't recognize the place!"

Rimrock, perhaps you are beginning to have a positive influence on him.

I think it's the other way around:D

Through our arguments I've begun realizing how similar we actually are and that we debate our beliefs in a passionate manner with conviction. I've been married 15 years our oldest daughter (my step-daughter raised her from the age of 8 her dad abandoned her) is successful in banking, I've never done drugs, I don't drink or smoke. Based on the length of marriage I'd say I'm at least 15 years younger and better looking:D

Libertarians are a joke as a viable party. It is about like fighting windmills. I think the young have not yet realized that to make a difference they must do something other than gripe and vote for a third party with no chance of making a difference.

c'mon guys... JerryM especially... give the libertarians a break... they are doing work to progress a positive agenda... in fact the libertarians (represented by the CATO institute in this instance) are one of the few "third parties" that are consistently summoned to capitol hill to give their opinion on a variety of issues.

Unfortunately no one tends to listen... :p

But we even had one as Governer here in New Mexico for 8 years. And he was one hell of a Governor... he left us as 1 of 2 states with a surplus after the terrible crash a few years ago... and unlike our current governor he didn't spend tax dollars on private jets, elaborate parties, and hangars to house his private jet (after they bought the plane they figured out the existing hangar wasn't big enough :D )

If all those people who didn't want to "throw away" their vote by supporting a third party were to actually vote for that party, third parties would definately stand a much better chance.
Just saying...

TAX CUTS!!!!
My favorite words. The dems have cranked up taxes and created social programs since the late 40s thru the 90s. Now we can't afford it, and even if republicans cut taxes only for the rich, it still eases financial stress for everyone. Marriage penalty tax is and death taxes are just a few moronic liberal ideas which the republicans are trying to eliminate. Homosexuality, the VAST majority no longer wants to be beat over the head with that issue anymore, let alone pay these legislators to slap us with laws over it.

I don't want to pay anymore liberal democrats to dictate how, when and why I can enjoy our 2nd amendment rights. People need to demand lower taxes and the conservatives are the only party that will help lower them. I sure have'nt seen any dem libs call for tax cuts! The less money the liberal democrats have the "less power they have" to make up more silly laws and social programs. How many more laws can we take before eveything is controlled by social democrats? The liberals have already PROVEN their power as far as GUN BANS and RAISING your taxes.

YALE wants to kick out the military and start teaching the TALIBAN, and WITH YOUR MONEY! This should outrage every American! I will vote conservative!

Not to come down on you carbiner, but the current administration has been on a spending spree for quite a while now and still asks for more. When some future president wants to raise taxes to replace the money that was stolen, it will be this president's fault, not the one who tries to clean up the mess. My point being, it's not always the guy raising taxes who is screwing you. He may be guilty as well, but we've been getting hosed by both parties for a while now.

TX, I could not agree more!

I have really lost faith in Bush as far as money goes. His party needs get off their duffs and CUT spending!
