If you could only keep 2 of 3 revolvers...

If I were the OP I'd get rid of that Guvernor real quick. He drags this out any longer, the wife will make the decision for him when he ain't looking. And you just know one will include the Guv.

Why do wives have the reputation of wanting to sell all of their husbands guns? I like guns personally, but I would choose the Gov. to get rid of. I like the 686, and I love any gun that is a tack driver.

Ok, before I jump on the bandwagon, let me ask you a few questions:
1) What function are these revolvers serving (collection, nightstand, investment, EDC, Outdoor use, etc.)
2) Which ones do you shoot most often?
3) Which ones do YOU like more?

Your original post leaves many of the details out:

Hi Everyone,

If you were forced to keep just 2 of 3 revolvers, which ones would you keep?

These are the options (all in excellent condition):

- Smith & Wesson 686 Stainless Steel 4" barrel - pre-lock model
- Smith and Wesson Governor w/ Hogue grip
- Ruger Security Six Stainless Steel 4" barrel with original target wood grip - tack driver

Now, if it were ME, I would personally keep the Security Six and the S&W 686, largely due to their reputation as some of the best .357's made, as well as their collector value. As has been said, neither of them are being made any more, and both have very desireable traits: (pre-lock on the 686, and factory target grips on the RSS, both in stainless 4" models). If, however, I planned on doing a lot of outdoor activities, I might consider the governor as a carry option for defense against larger 2 and 4 legged threats.

Any gun decisions should be evaluated based on current and projected need. I'm still learning the whole "projected need" thing myself, though...

I'll have to go against the grain here and say drop the 686. The Ruger does everything the 686 can do in a smaller, more packable, better-designed package.

If the question was which two guns to sell, I'd also lose the Governor. But if I'm keeping two, the Gov covers a few highly specialized bases that the Ruger does not.

Unlike the others, I say the Governor is a future classic, to be cherished and passed on to loved ones, and has greater function and flexibility. You should definitely dump the 686.

By the way, I happen to be in the market for a pre-lock 686 .... :D

You said it in your first post.

686 - Pre Lock
Security Six - Tack Driver

I would ditch the gun that is a solution to a problem that never existed.

The Govenor needs to go. For many decades it was widely accepted that if you only had one, and adjustable sight 4in .357 was the one to have. You have two that closely overlap. If this is a total battery , give thought to at least one of : 1. .22lr 2. small frame snub or equiv 3. either .44 or .45LC capable of heavy loads.

But no matter what , the Gov needs to go, and don't mention that you used to have one.

Keep the Smith's. All you fellas not familiar with the governor are really missing out. It ain't no Taurus. Mr Governor shoots .45 Colt and .45ACP to point of aim, and shoots .410 as well. I shot one. I want one. If you must let one go, the Ruger.

Ditch the other two and buy another Gov.................I can't even say that with a straight face. Sell the Gov. to Strafer Gott. :D

You know you have good security when you don't have a lock despite what the governor says.
