If you could only have one firearm

This same question gets asked a lot....it would be interesteing for those who have responded in the past to search back and see if there choices have changed......I have to be a little contrary, If I only have one gun I have to assume that have taken the rest and as such ill make do with what i can get. and If what I can get isnt adequate Ill use it to get what i need...fubsy.

Nothing is more versatile than a shotgun. Remington 870 wuth a 20 inch barrel and rifle sights.

Your OTHER tool should be a SHOVEL

I am glad to see every one choosing hand guns That leaves things in my favor with me and my M14. A Glock won't help you get closer than 300 yards and your in a world of hurt when you come up against one at that range and the long gun is not all that bad at closer ranges.

I will have to agree with Mr. McMillan on this and go with a rifle in .308 of some sort perhaps a HK 91 or an M14/M1A or maybe even a bolt action. It seem like you can do a lot more with a rifle than a pistol or a shotgun.

Among other firearms, I have both a Bulgarian SLR95 AK and a Series 70 Colt 45 Combat Commander. It would be hard to pick between the two. The Colt is extremely accurate but not 100% reliable with hollow-point bullets. The SLR95 is absolutely 100% reliable with everything I've fed it. Given that RELIABILITY IS MOST IMPORTANT, if I had to choose just one firearm, the SLR95 would get the call. But both would always be better!

Long Path,

My feelings exactly. I'm not gonna settle for just one.

Considering what I consider to be the ideal gun, it'd have to be the SA M1A, with booku ammo. Also the Winchester Defender.

And that's just for starters.

Best Regards,
Don

The most foolish mistake we could make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms; history shows that all conquerers who have allowed their subjected people to carry arms have prepared their own fall.

Ah, yes... this old question. :)

To answer within the context of the question (defense), I'd have to go with my AR-15. Effective out to at least 300 yards and the ammo is light and can be carried in quantity.

I love my handguns, but in this situation would view them solely as a means to get my hands on a rifle (remember the WWII 'Liberator' pistol?).

If I wanted a firearm that could offer defense as well as provide a good means to put dinner on the table, the nod would go to my Mossberg 590 with ghost ring sights.

Since you specified "for defense" I'll go with a four inch S&W 586 .357. Lots of choices for ammo and a great all around gun.

Now, if it was one gun for everything. I'd go with a good .22RF rifle.

OK, then the next thread can be 'what firearm would you want, if you could only have one, to use to capture the next firearm you would want if you could only have two?' ;)

Then, ... ;)

My choice would be a 4" S&W 629. I could use it for concealed carry and as a means of protection against bear when hiking. Seems like that would cover all bases.

Mossberg 500, can do everything, shot, slugs from small game to full size trophy, and makes the best and most intimidating home defense. IN MY OPINION!

If we're permited to only have one gun?

A silenced .22 pistol

If you have to ask why, then don't go outside alone.

However, if I can only have one gun?

A Glock 19

Why? because my AR dosen't conceal well :)

Kinda funny...

I was had just switched gears from thinking about the most versatile and effective SHTF gun for me (Mossberg 500) to thinking- oh- it has to be concealable? Thought "Browning Buckmark" just as my eyes fell on LP's post. I'll take the 5.5 inch version, thanks. And, I'd advise wearing your Gargoyles, if you're the opposition.

Probably a Rem 870 with a folding stock, maybe a 20" barrel with several chokes. If I was allowed I would have a second longer barrel for hunting/clay birds.

These "If you can only have one gun" threads pop up from time to time and they might be a good exercise in determining your needs but they still kinda give me the creeps.

Don't think I could just pick one. But here is a short (for me) list in no speciffic order.
1. .357 mag revolevr, SS, 6" bbl
2. Glock 22
3. Beretta 92FS
4. AR15- M4 clone
5. Rem 870 12 ga, Scattergun Techs, Border patrol version
6. .22 RF pistol suppresed

OK hold my feet to the fire and MAKE me pick just one......It'd be the .357 revolver.
