If you could only choose ONE single stack 9...

Springfield 1911 EMP4 in 9mm. I'm a sucker for 1911s, it has a full size yet aluminum frame, 4" barrel, 9+1 with normal mags, and Novak sights. Ideally I would just get a Dan Wesson Valkyrie, but ~$1900 out the door is a little tough to justify in a 1911 with so many good manufacturers and money is still a consideration.

Well, I'm glad I don't have to have just one. :)

I would have to pick the Springfield Range Officer compact 9mm. good sights, good recoil impulse, extremely accurate good trigger, only issue some people would have would be weight and for me, that's not an issue.

Kahr CW9. My two have been perfect and they do everything I expect out of a 9mm single stack. No reason to look elsewhere. For me anyhow. ;)

The last one I bought... Sig P225-A1..... It feels and shoots just like my M11-A1, only smaller with an undercut trigger guard and better ergos. I carry a spare mag for a total of 17 rounds. Great little shooter!

Since it has to be a do all 9 I'd pick the Kahr CT-9. I picked this for requirements listed due capacity, still small enough to slip in my jacket, and after 300 or so rounds absolutely no issues with mine!

Another fan of the 39XX pistols as the perfect single stack 9mm. They shoot like full sized service pistols but carry so easily IWB.

The only single-stack 9 I have is a Shield and it's never let me down.

I would love to own a 938 someday though.

Another vote for the Walther PPS.

I agree with Sigarms. The PPS is a little heavier than other subcompacts, but this makes it more manageable.

It's a great gun.

I'll have to vote Sig P239 also especially since I have one, but I would have to give serious consideration to a Kahr T-9 also. Rare but beautiful pistol.

A good friend of mine has a couple of those classic S&W autos made in the late 60's or early 70's. I seriously laugh when you compare them to just about all the crap that most companies are putting out these days. Most times when people ask which pistol I should buy I tell them pick a model and go on gunbroker and buy the oldest one you can find.

They pretty much all suck today compared to what was made 30-40 years ago. Sadly I was always so caught up in the classic Sigs I never really got
into the S&Ws.

Amen Rinspeed!

For the last 18 months I worked partime at the local indoor as an instructor. I taught pistol 101 to new shooters. The number of new shooters was amazing. Literally thousands of them and the vast majority were female.

They came in wanting to "...try a 380...", till I let them shoot one. Then they wanted a single stack 9mm. So they went to the rental counter and would try the G43, XDs9, shield 9, LC9, Sig 9 and become frustrated because they didnt like any of them. For various reasons.

So I would take my 3914 out of my holster and let them try it. After trying to buy mine of me they would have me write down the model number, manufacturer and web address for Gunbroker. 7 of them purchased 3914s and 3913s, that I know of. They all came back for additional instruction with them is how I know.

That the current company posing as s&w doesnt still make these guns for public sale is just another stupid move on their part. They still made 3914s for the NYPD through 2016. And they didnt "...cost a thousand dollars if made today!....". Regards 18DAI

9mm only.....For general range duty, and CCW in the right conditions, S&W 3913/3914. For CCW anytime, Ruger LC9s.

Personally, I go with a Ruger LCP (380) in the summertime, as it is lighter weight and easier to conceal in shorts/t-shirt than any 9mm.

Glock 43 is a fine little handgun. I carry mine comfortably everywhere. Cant do that with some other choices floating around.

One Single Stack 9 to Rule Them All

Smith & Wesson 3906 with all the spare springs and parts to keep it running into the 25th century.
:D

Tough choices. From my 9mm single-stack stables (horrible picture, sorry:o):

For current production, it would have to be my Sig P938. It's the softest shooting 9mm for CCW and is my most-often carried handgun for single stacks. Accuracy is surprising and I couldn't be more satisfied. The S&W 3913 would give it the biggest challenge as it's still quite concealable, but is the top for range shooting and just simply enjoyable.

Price-wise, the Kahr CM9 is my favorite single-stack for CCW.

As much as I love the P6/P225 9mm, if I was considering a current production SA/DA, it would likely be the P239. Large for a single stack and CCW, but that size of Sig shoots like a gem.

I have handled an EMP 9mm and love how it feels in the hand. If I was wanting a larger sized 1911 (vice my Sig P938), I would give the EMP a strong consideration.

For now, my choice would be the Sig P928 (Equinox version with the combo tritium/fiber front sight which is excellent).

Glock 43 for me. I had the Shield, really liked it, but kept the Glock. It's just a good fit for me. I looked hard at several others, but just kept coming back to the Glock 43.

I will pick the one I picked: Sig P290rs. I wouldn't call it the best but it satisfies more of my wants/needs in a small single stack 9 than any other I considered. There are several others I like, though, the 938, the Glock 43, the PPS M2, the MK9, and so on. I settled on the 290 and am very happy with it.

I just got a Sig P239 SAS Gen 2. Love it but it's too big to consider in the same class, IMO.
