I thought Ron Paul did pretty good tonight

Who was it that said something about "cancer" when they asked where the Republican party went wrong? I LOL-ed at that, 'cuz it woulda been a good line...except he literally meant cancer

I think it was Tommy Thompson?

It sure will make things interesting if Thompson runs. He'll provide a more conservative option for the Republicans. I can understand why the Democrats fear him. And Rudy, John, and Mitt probably aren't very happy about it, either. :D

What makes you say the Dems are afraid of Thompson? I haven't seen any candidate statements on him.

Paul on the Daily Show will give him a lot of exposure.. and twice on Maher's Real Time. I don't see the other candidates making that kind of effort, they seem to be staying close to their base.

Even if Paul doesn't make it out of the primaries, it's good for the country to hear what he has to say.

The dems want to run against Thompson. The more conservative the republican candidate the better.

Until Clinton the Dems ran one radical leftist after another out to alienate the vast majority of america. Now Foxnews and Newt Gingrich and GWB go charging ever rightward in the same mindless belief that most americans are radicals.

Well most americans are radicals, radical moderates. Whichever party puts forth the candidate thought by most americans to be the most moderate will win. The Karl Rove plan of attacking Clinton and catering to your base is flawed as proved by the last election.

The left wing isn't going to vote for any conservative and the right wing isn't going to vote for any liberal. But the great big middle would vote for a moderate like Guiliani.

It's kinda funny watching the republican debates where each guy seems to want to be portrayed as more conservative than the last. If that's what it takes to win the nomination there will not be a republican president.

This is one of the more bizarre statements I have seen. The Dems want a fence-sitting East Coast establishment type to run against. Then the differences are negligible and they can focus on bashing Bush rather than discussing issues.

One would have to be pretty wildly left to mistake FOX, Newt and especially Shrub for Righties. They are neo-cons at best. Tax and spend leftists on most things, throwing the occasional bone to conservatives. Nothing more.

That's always a nice fantasy. I hope the left keeps thinking it, since it helps them lose. The fact is most people are moderate on most issues. But most people have one or two or three issues that they are extreme on. Those issues guide the vote. These days those issues are mostly guns, abortion and the war, with taxes horning in somewhat. On each of these the American public tends conservative to downright anarchist.

The only thing the last election showed was that after the left spent billions and months(years) demonizing everyone that disagreed with their skewed view of reality they STILL could barely break even. All that work and they accomplished? What? A "majority"? I suppose if you look at it just right you can call it that. Cost them an awful lot, in favors and credibility as well as cash, to get those couple seats now didn't it? The election showed the left is weak even when it should have been driving a steam roller.

If so then it's a sad statement on how far we as a nation have fallen. If so then maybe we deserve to cease to exist as a nation.

That's your opinion and here in the US you have a Constitional Right to be utterly, completely and totally wrong.
