I snoozed,,, I lost,,,,,

Yesterday evening I stopped into the Evil Pawn Shop,,,
Just to take a look in his shelves and browse.

There was a little FIE cowboy style SA pistol that caught my eye,,,
Nickel plated, 4.75" barrel, cylinders for .22 LR & .22 Mag,,,
It wore very nice faux ivory grips in the original box.

I messed with it and the gun looked like it had been fired only very little,,,
Everything about the action was tight with no cylinder wobble at all,,,
It seemed identical in size to my trusty Colt Frontier Scout.

He only wanted $150.00 for the gun.

But it was almost closing time,,,
And I really don't need another SA revolver,,,
So I decided to sleep on it and wait until today to decide.

When I got home I got to thinking this would be a perfect gift gun,,,
I could make a nice Dale Evans style gunslinger rig for it,,,
And keep it for the new young lady I take shooting,,,
Possibly as a gift if she shows enough interest.

So I called the Evil Pawn Shop Guy around 10:00 this morning,,,
He said, "Oh man, I just sold that gun 15 minutes ago".

Drat!

Ya snoozes,,, Ya loses!

Can one ever have too many single action revolvers? Or Double? Or Semis, Rifles, or Shotguns?

You know what, the phrase "too many" should just be deleted from the English language:p Can we at least add it to the forum's language filter?;)

Anyhoo, never heard of FIE, quick search wasn't much help

I had one of those guns. It wasn't nickel plated though. Bought it for $99 at a pawn shop in '98.

Literally fell apart on me. Seemed like it was in good condition when I bought it, but after awhile the cylinder literally fell out of the gun. It had some other problems prior to that, but at that point I completely gave up on it. I had tried fixing it a few times before and it had been unsafe to fire for awhile.

You probably did yourself a favor.

Hello Stressfire,,,

Firearms International Export (FIE) was not a manufacturer but an importer of inexpensive Spanish and/or Italian firearms.

They are definitely not top-tier handguns,,,
But in most cases they were shootable,,,
Inexpensive is their best quality. :o

I'm always on the lookout for inexpensive rimfire handguns,,,
When I find one that's real cheap and not a total turkey,,,
I'll buy it, wrap some leather around it, and encase it.

Those fake wooden books from Hobby Lobby,,,
Work very well for this.

Then if someone I know falls in love with it,,,
I'll either sell it to them for my cost,,,
Or just gift it to them outright.

I really missed a deal on this one.

i know you're not a fan of them Jim,,,

i know you're not a fan of them Jim,,,
But I keep waiting for one of those $150 Makarovs people keep talking about.

Trouble is when I do see Makarovs hit the Evil Pawn Shop,,,
They are just as expensive as a brand new Bersa.

I am a Bersa fan and have given two of them to friends in recent years,,,
By the time the smoke clears thy run me just under $300.00 each.

I don't mind paying that as a gift to a good friend,,,
I just want one of the real bargains I keep reading about here.

I'll just keep dropping in there to browse,,,
The good deals do happen there,,,
I just need to not hesitate. ;)

Only downside I can see with that is that I don't think the lifetime warranty is transferable, is it?

I'm not sure how EVIL that pawn shop is, you usually post about pickups there being pretty good at a reasonable price - the pawn shops around me want NIB prices for rusted pieces of crap. Saw what was once a very nice short barreled SW Victory, but had since rusted to the point where it was seized up for about $575 IIRC

Hiya Stressfire,,,

I think you are correct in that the Bersa warranty isn't transferable.

To get around that I didn't fill out the warranty registration,,,
I let the people who I gave to guns to fill the warranty card out in their name,,,
The store receipt that accompanies the warranty registration has no name on it so I think we're good.

I call the Evil Pawn Shop Guy evil because of a nasty trait he has,,,
The jer, eerrr, proprietor will get to know what guns you like,,,
Then find one and dangle it in front of your nose.

He knows I like K-frames,,,
He originally sold me a pristine Model 15,,,
Then a short while later he called me and offered me first look at a LNIB Model 12.

Then he repeated the same reprehensible maneuver,,,
With a decent shooter grade Model 18.

He knows I like identical rimfire/centerfire pairs,,,
When he found out I owned a Model 36,,,
He dangled a Model 34 in my face.

I ordered a Beretta Cheetah in .22 LR from him,,,
Was it coincidence that he very soon got in a nice used Cheetah in .380?

Coincidence?,,,
I think not!

The man is evil,,,
Evil I say!

Hiya micromontenegro,,,

Sometimes you can win by losing...

I assume you're talking about the questionable quality of the FIE revolver,,,
I hear ya my friend and in fact it could easily have turned out that way,,,
Unknown maker from a now defunct importer isn't a sure thing at all.

Oh well,,,
Next week there will no doubt be another opportunity. :)

Sometimes the hunt, for just the right gun, is more fun than actually owning it ...or at least a close 2nd...

I think everyone should buy what they like Aarond....not what I like ( besides it leaves more guns for me to find ) ...:D ...even though you and I like a lot of the same revolvers...there is room in the pool ...

and if you like the Makarov ....that's ok with me ...

I missed a Bersa .22lr this past weekend for $212.00. I was late to the "One Day Only" sale at the local pawn shop because I had to work. Then I passed up a Browning Hi Power for $679 and a new Rock Island .38 Super for $385. I would really of like to have had the Bersa. And, if I would have had $679, I would have liked the Browning. It sure does suck being poor.

Trying to understand here:confused:.....maybe you wanted to gift the FIE to someone that you didn't like? If you like em, you gotta get a single six or perhaps a Colt if they're really special ;)

A used single six can be found for about $250 which is worth the extra hundred in my experience.

I know how you feel though, as I missed a gun today too. It was actually a Kongsberg Colt, so I should be mad! (I didn't snooze though, I saw it online, called about it, but it had already sold)
