I Love Movie Shootouts ... And Heres The Best Ones

I always chuckle when I watch "Desperado", I love the scene when Antonio Banderas and Cheech Marin keep reaching for guns in the bar and they all keep coming up empty. :D

Road to Perdition. Tom hanks is a prohibition era hit man. He has a shoot out with Jude Law, another hit man hired to kill him, in a hotel room. At one point a stray bullet sends shards of glass into Jude's face. Epic. Tommy guns and 1911's throughout the entire movie.

Hoodlum with Laurence Fishburn. There's a shoot out in an intersection with Dutch Schultz gang. Fishburn carries a .38 nickel plated (?) revolver. Another good shoot out.

I posted these links earlier as a couple of my favourite shootouts. It occurs to me that this is the place to answer a couple of questions that I had about some of the weapons they use.

I am no gun expert, so sorry if they are obvious:

OK, in this first one (sorry for the subtitles, Nikita makes her first hit, but is then stranded in the kitchens with her Desert Eagle. The bodyguards start piling in at one stage one of the secodn wave of bodyguards goes in with an assault rifle and the camera shoots as it it were strapped to the barrel of the gun :
What gun is that?

In this sceneo of District 9, the main reluctant hero, Wikus, ends up in powered armour mech suit and decides "enough fokin running" (read with thick Afrikaans accent). In the shoot out that follows, one big Spec Ops guy lies in wait on a mound with a MASSIVE rifle. So big that his mate has to mount the barrel.
What is that crazy cannon?

Thanks!!

Street Kings has a good shootout in the beginning. Then it has another good one 3/4th's the way through at the 'gangsta's' house. I love the fridge move... BOOM! His custom SA 1911 is nice in that, might be a series 70 but looks like an old SA.

L.A. Confidential, the final showdown at the Victory Motel.

Colt 1911, Colt Detective Special, and Smith & Wesson, plus a couple of shotguns.

The show White and Exley reloading their handguns and running dry. That always puts a shootout much higher on the list for realism.

@ 8shot357-- you must be talking about The Salton Sea with Val Kilmer . He uses a S&W 8 shot perfomance center snub at one point in the film. There is also very amusing dialouge about the 8shots held in the gun. If you havent seen it check it out, not the greatest movie but interesting.

Cool, I will look into that. Love to see those 8 shot .357mags. Got three.

TBS, I did move up to a 44mag, but only 6 shot's.:D

Saving Private Ryan - part where the sniper shoots the other sniper in the eye through his scope

Collateral - the briefcase part

Blood Diamond - leo fake prisoner part

Black Hawk Down - the entire movie is a shootfest

I like the Trash Can shoot-outs that Det. Frank Drebin had on Police Squad.

Not authentic, Not realistic,..but funny as hell.

The Best Movie Shootout: Collateral Damage; The Alley scene.

steveno you are right sir, The Wild Bunch next to last scene, starring a water cooled browning is by far the primo shootout of moviedom.

All of the movies mentioned have good shootouts but I am with steveno, the finale from the Wild Bunch is hard to beat.
