I have bought my last S&W

The fix is in...... Smith & Wesson just got the short straw and had to announced first. IMO over the next few weeks and months every other company named in the big lawsuit (basically every major handgun seller in North America) will make a near verbatim announcement.

What choice did they really have? They were going against the same attorneys that won the giant Tobacco Lawsuit, those figgin' lawyers have enough money to buy and sell all these gun companies ten times over. S&W (and all the other defendants) were smart enough to realize they could never win in court.

If you want to boycott something boycott the cities that brought the lawsuit. Boycott the law firms that financed the lawsuit and boycott any one who does business with them. Boycott the HUD by voting out the current administration and all the political appointees that go with it, write your congress critter and tell them to withhold funding of HUD until this politicly is dropped.

Why do we always shoot our wounded? Boycotting S&W will just advance HCI agenda. -- Kernel

Amen Kernel, you repeated exactly how I felt in a previous post... thanx!

Bullet44, you said:
"Make no mistake this government is going to put gun makers out of business in this country."

I say,
If YOU boycott S&W, then YOU are going to be the ones to put gun makers out of business... not the gov't. You gonna boycott Glock, Beretta, Ruger, Taurus, Sig , and HK too when they have to do the same thing?... and then blame the gov't?

No flame intended, but THAT'S not a very well-thought out plan IMHO. *** Don't let emotion rule the way it rules the Anti's... let LOGIC rule.

Take care bud,
Ben

This may sound stupid, but what is HUD? When I hear that acronym the first thing that pops into my mind is heads up display.

It means Housing and Urban Development.
People in charge of low income housing and housing projects

When the cities' lawsuits are defeated, does anyone really think that they'll pay back the gun munfactures' legal fees? How do you force a city to comply with a court ruling? There will be no public outcry since the press will support the cities' "heroic" stance againts the "evil gun companies.

Muleshoe,

No, I meant that once this wonderful new "smart" gun technology is perfected, then all pre-ban guns will be considered dangerous and must be turned in, or wrapped in so much red tape and expense as to be almost unusable, ala class III weapons. I know it sounds unlikely, but didn't all this horsepuckey going on today seen pretty unlikely 10 years ago?

As to supporting S&W. How can we support them? They've already capitulated. I won't buy any new "smart" gun for the reasons that many others here have pointed out. So what should we do directly for S&W? I mean we all do indirect things. Write letters, join NRA, GOA, etc., but what can we do directly? I will not reward S&W financially for caving in, however. If someone kicks you in the back, do you then offer them some steel-toed boots so it doesn't hurt their toes next time? Nuh uh. If GM said tomorrow (under threat of lawsuit for the children) that they would add a second key requirement that meant you had to crawl under the car to start it would you run out the next day and buy one? Not likely. I realize that the other manufacturers may follow suit and is what everyone fears, but what about Beretta? They told Clinton, HUD and Cincinatti (or Baltimore?) to shove it and lo and behold, they're gaining ground! Heck, if S&W had stood up, I'd have sent them money just for having some ba**s, even though I don't own a S&W product. We need to let the other mfgs. know that we will support them if they stand, but we will NOT reward them if they cave. I think that is about the only thing we can do for S&W, even though it's too late for them.

This is the letter that I wrote to Smith and Wesson.....

Dear sirs,

I am a 31 year old private citizen who is a professional in Southern
California. I served my country for four years in the Combat arms of the
United States Army. I am NOT a member of the NRA or any other gun
lobbying organization. I am, however, a FIRM believer in the Bill of
Rights.

My right, as I swore to defend, to bear arms is being infringed. The
FEDERAL government is restricting my ability to defend myself against
both the criminals in society and the potential tyranny that an
unbalanced Federal Government represents.

You, sirs, have perpetuated that infringment. you have, by your
agreement, as much as admitted culpability in not doing all you could to
promote firearm safety. By your unilateral actions you have jeopordized
every other gun manufacturer's legal position. you have established a
precedent in this highly litigious environment that it is OK for anyone
with an anti-gun axe to grind to litigate the firearms companies in this
country out of existance.

I am apalled.

Therefore, as a private citizen, I have no choice but to register my
displeasure with your company's decision by refusing to purchase your
handguns. In addition, I will be looking for a home, CHEAP, I might add,
for what guns of yours that I own.

sincerely,

J. T. King

watch smith @wesson try to spin out of this like colt did a few months ago.colt said were just trimming a few guns from the line>well there not shipping any ar15 there not shipping any 1911 or revolvers
just a few single action armys that are higher than hell.
bottom line
smith @wesson has lost its footing in the market place.i hardly ever sell a third generation smith unless its a compact and have major returns and trade ins on sigmas since they are junk.the walther program did not go well and that leaves them with nothing that lawenforcment wants and or the general public other than the j frames.smith is just chasing the smart gun money and i expect that glock and browning will follow suit soon.glock has only been trickiling guns out since nov and the prices have gone up almost $60.00.but its still the best gun on the market.just try to find a glock 23 27 or 30 out there somewhere.

J.T.King: "I am NOT a member of the NRA or any other gun

How can you _not_ be an NRA member after witnessing all of this? There are 80 million gun owners in this country, yet only 3+ million or so are members of the NRA. If even half the gun owners were NRA members, it would be political suicide for Clinton or any other politician to attempt an extortion racket like this. Clinton and his cronies would not be able to dismiss the NRA as a tiny "fringe" element of society.

Gun owners represent almost a third of the population. We're the largest special interest group in the country. We're bigger than the AARP, bigger than the NAACP. Yet we're disorganzied, we squabble amongst ourselves, we don't get involved politically, and we complain when the likes of Clinton get us on the ropes.

If you think I'm flaming you and a few of the others, well, consider it a call to arms instead.

Yes it is true that other manufacturers will follow. Glock's chairman announced today that they will follow S&W's lead. Will we all now boycott Glock now???

Monkeyleg:

No flame taken... The reason that I wrote that I was "NOT a member of the NRA" was that I wanted S&W to know that I was not writing them as part of an NRA sponsored letter writing campaign. I wanted them to know that I was one of the 77 million that did not participate regularly in letter writing campaigns.

Now, as to why I am not a member of the NRA - They do not represent me. I admit that they have the most cohesive organization that sponsors gun rights i nthe nation, but they are like Greenpeace. They have managed to offend the political center so badly that even people who believe in their cause will have nothing to do with them.

If I knew of a responsible, balanced organization that did not allow its politically high profile members to tell the President of the United States that he "has blood on his hands" (which is about as bad of PR that the gun lobby can get) then I would be willing to join it.

Don't get me wrong, I am definately a gun rights advocate. I vote that way, and I spend that way. I am a responsible owner and I teach my friends and family safe gun concepts. I will not give money though to an organization that has used up all of its public goodwill and alienated the bulk of the United States public.

I can't believe that someone who is writing in this forum is not an NRA member. I'm a 23 year old college student (and not a wealthy one) and I beleive strongly enough in the NRA to be a life member. If your a gun owner and your not part of the NRA, than your part of the problem.

J.T. King,

I'm glad to find someone else out there unafraid to admit they have problems with certain aspects of the NRA. As I have stated on GlockTalk, LaPierre's blood statement further alienates the NRA from the general, "media hypnotized" public. I am, however, a member of the NRA and a certified firearms safety instructor for the same. I am an NRA member because I wish to support the education side of what they do, but doggone did I cringe when LaPierre spouted off.
