All of us have friends who are avid shooters but don't carry.

Why??

I know why the wife doesn't carry regularly except when out of the house alone. She carries a Taser in her purse and feels that's adequate. When she's with me she knows I'm armed.

Please take the survey if you don't carry--No comment is required.
other folks want to know!!

I don't OC or CC because guns "go off" all the time...:D

oh that's right I just lied I CC and OC.:o

I know lots of people that have their CWP but don't carry on their person. Almost all of them keep some kind of "truck" gun concealed.
The guy that talked me into getting my CWP asked me why I was "packing" the first time I went to show him my new M&P. Now he "pats" me down when I show up to pick up the kids....LOL
I also know several people that didn't renew their permit.

I live in a safe neighborhood, that has never in the 20 plus years that I've lived here had a violent crime.*

I have lived/worked in less friendly places where I thought I needed to be armed. But as it turned out I didn't.

The one time I felt my life was threatened by a gun, it was by stupidity not malice. If I had been carrying at the time and reacted out of fear it is likely that at least one person would have been shot wrongfully.

So my philosophy is to only carry a firearm if I think there is a specific threat or if I intend to be in an area where I feel there is a greater general level of danger.

*I should clarify that there has been crime in the neighborhood, mostly on the juvenile petty theft level.

When she's with me she knows I'm armed.

Then you should be carrying two -- one for yourself and one for her -- since she obviously views you as her off-body carry method. ;)

I don't carry concealed because--

I cant find my Seecamp, Im lazy, Im a fatalist, my fists are a deadly weapon, my 11 yearold girlie style screeches would scare off the most determined felon, my Rambo badge has been revoked, I look mean, I prefer body armour, it makes my pants fall down....

as subjects, we're not allowed to carry guns in Illinois

Illinois State Police have concluded that:

  • Telling an attacker that you have VD or AIDS can discourage him.
  • It may sound disgusting, but putting your fingers into you throat and making yourself vomit usually gets results. (This method is not often used except as a last resort.)
  • Use your imagination and you can think of others.
The above methods are particularly important if your assailant has a gun or knife, or there is more than one attacker. (Fighting would probably be futile.)
When i'm out on the street, i prefer the projectile vomtting suggestion--especially after eating hot & spicy Indian cuisine. Stomach bile can blind an attacker temporarily :p

I live in Maryland and work in DC. My masters have decided that I'm only fit to be taxed and preyed upon by felons and politicians.

I open carry because I don't have my CCW.

I will be posting a video soon of how I open carry with my cane in my right hand, that is how I walk normally. its a white cane that us blind people use, and how my forearm and elbo are always securing my arm against my Ruger or my Taurus. my holsters have retention and I OC where ever it is legal.

The state where I live most of the time does not make it easy for non-residents such as me to get a license, I don't spend enough time in the state where I am a resident to bother getting one there and neither state honors the other's CCL. So, for now, I go without.

I should be graduating college before the end of the year, so by this time next year I should have my residency sorted out and then maybe I'll apply for one. The town where I live at the moment is fairly small and doesn't have a lot of violent crime anyway, so it's not that big of a problem.

No of the answers did fit here, it is not legal to carry a handgun for personal protetcion here in Norway.
on Spitsbergen ( Svalbard ) it is legal to carry a handgun for icebear protection.

My reason isn't represented - the places I spend the most time at (work and class) are places that firearms, and other weapons, are not permitted.

That won't stop the bad guy from bringing any type of weapon, but for now I follow their rules.

I answered "only occasionally" on your last poll. This time I chose "just not worried about it". There are places I carry and places I don't feel the need to.
