I am so sick of it...

Hear hear! My first gun was a Kel-Tec P-11. Went up through Taurus, Ruger, Glock, and currently carry a Springfield XD. I am saving for a Sig 229 SAS.

First handgun?

Was a Colt .45 acp (model 1911 ) Gov't issue from WWI (that my grandfather game me way back in the day). I was 10 years old and my dad took me out to shoot it one day down at a creek in the back of our property. Wow, it kicked me so hard I never shot it again (he kept it till he passed and I then got it back). I still take it out and shoot it from time to time but mostly it sits in my safe and brings back memories of my granddad. :)

whether you're joking or not, you can't post things that are potentially offensive on a forum using broad generalizations of people and not expect anyone to respond angrily.

i know you were joking with the original post because it was made very clear by several people in the first page of the thread. frankly, i don't care.

anyone up for some racist jokes? probably not.

Still don't have an answer about by my first handgun. Beretta 92fs. Where does that put me?

When you find out let me know, Because it's gonna put me in the same place. That was also my first handgun.

Mine was My Uncles Colt DA that he carried in WWI, After he Passed away My Aunt gave it to me. Still have it infact gave it to my daughter, but she lives in Jersey, so I still have it in the safe.

I'm 42 years of age and preparing to purchase my first handgun. If I had the discretionary income for it, you can bet I would buy a top-notch piece to start out.

Alas, I don't, so I won't. :P

Oh, and hello everyone. First post. Looking forward to hangin' out, learning a thing or two and otherwise spending some "quality" internet time here. :)

PBP I feel your pain. My first gun was a magun research mountain eagle .22.
I have to say though that I see this in other things. I am into sportbikes and do some obnoxious mods to them (i have had six modded bikes) yet I see guys that put TENS of thousands of dollars into bikes and cars (been there too). Even with the insanity I have visited on bikes and cars I see guys that spend ten times what I do on them and wonder "where the hell do you get the money for this!!!" The thing is this, some guys will buy a gun they like or need while others will save and save for their dream gun.

As far as I'm concerned there really isn't a point for at least some people to start off with a Jennings or a Bryco or a Rohm or the like. I say start off with a good gun because you will never regret it. Also, for the most part, when someone buys their first gun, they are also new to shooting. I think its much easier to learn with a precision instrument vs a low quality gun. And if you grow fond of a quality gun which is also your first, it will probably out last you. I understand the philosophy of people needing to start off with garbage to truly appreciate a quality firearm but just handling a lower grade gun reminds me how lucky I am to have good stuff, for the most part. Also, when you start off with garbage you end up invariably wasting money. The good stuff can sometimes appreciate in value and will last, for the most part. Just my 2 cents.

So-called "top-notch" handguns aren't necessarily top-notch.

There are many handguns available that aren't priced through the roof that are first-rate, well-made, reliable top quality firearms and won't break the bank. (CZ, Browning, SIG, Glock, etc., etc.)

I'm sure I will get flamed for this, but $1000+ Kimbers, Wilson Combats, Les Baers, etc., unless you are doing serious target shooting, are nothing more than overpriced names that you don't need for everyday "fun."

Wow, it really is scary how many people are completely unable to understand sarcasm when making a joke. It gets even sadder when you consider they even had it spelled out for them with the " " at the end of the sentence. How far up your own backside does a person's head have to be that they are really that clueless?

How hard and how many times does a person have to have been dropped on their head as a child to leave them completely devoid of a sense of humor?

Hey PBP, I got it a long time ago. Said it in post #51. You have done better than I even thought back then getting guys to talk about the first gun they bought. BTW, mine was a Ruger Super Blackhawk. Back in '72 when they were $115.00!!! Still have it. Still carry it every deer season.
