Hunting Rifles: What is Your Ideal 4 Rifle Battery?

I think so far we are on the right track it is only the hunting terrain that is changing thee calibers mostly I figure !!!!! Everyone seems to be going for small 22 LR caliber ,222 or 223 light medium which is cool there are a few nice 22/250 long range varmint in there which is good to see !!! I noticed a lot of 270 's they are really on the rise !!!!! And of course our truly trusted 308 !!!!! And 30-06 being a little more out further for food!!!!! At close range they are closely matched !!!!! I'm guessing the fourth is almost strictly terrain there are a lot of 45/70 take anything that walks down at closer ranges there's a surprising number !!!!! 300 win mag a real dominator, high power rifle good at ranges out to 1700 plus but devastating closer !!!! 6.5

Creedmoor top notch champion rifle !!!!! There are a lot going for this spot maybe we should take some time and see what the people that are participating think of this !!! It would be fun !!!!! In the mean time keep shooting straight and may you ammo supply never run out!!!!

I am hoping to buy a CZ FS 22lr in the next few months. If that turns out well I will be getting a 4 rifle battery of identical rifles.

22lr -Small game and target
223 - varmint
6.5X55 - anything larger
308 - JIC?

There is nothing on this continent 308 isn't enough to take with a little left over. Really the 6.5X55 can do it all. If I venture off this continent with hunting in mind I will buy a fifth.

Biggest thing I could ever hope to hunt is moose/elk/black bear. Why would I need more than a 308? With proper loads I wouldn't be afraid to tackle Browns/polar bears either. Honestly the 5.56 is the most useless round out of the three, but it is a necessity for defense.

If I could have a 5th, I'd probably have a Tikka T3 light in .243 or .308, a Colt MARC 901 in .308 with a 5.56 kit or maybe a DPMS GII in.308 with an additional upper in .243.
 
Just for hunting only, I'd go with these. I have them all except the .223.

1- .22lr CZ 452 American
2- .17hmr CZ 452 American
3- .223/5.56 CZ 527 American
4- 7.62x39 CZ 527 carbine

45-70 for bigger game (Remington rolling block)

4 Rifles

For me:
22LR great small game
6.5X55 Swede if reloading OR 30-06 If using store bought due to wide range of ammo
308 OR 300AAC MSR for self defense

Out of 10+ different calibers I own, ironically I hunt with a lever action 308 and a fully rifled barrel 12ga 870. I've taken far more deer with the 870 than all the others together. :cool:

This is, of course, premised on the cartridges listed being for a dedicated hunting rifle battery.

Had the OP's question called for a list not limited to hunting rifles, but instead for a general purpose battery of only 4 rifles, at least two of the cartridges on my list would be different.

The following three would handle pretty much everything for me. I'll have to think about #4. Some people mentioned 12 gauge and I'd agree but you said rifle battery.
