HUGE Snubbies?

How about a S&W 500!

Do you already have one Tamara! Or two? :D

Tamara,
Really nice M-57. I have two in 6 1/2 inch and a 657 in 8 3/8. I'd understood one was made in 2 1/2 or 3 inch, no wonder I've never seen one.

I'd think a M-57 in 5 shot with a 2 1/2 inch barrel/shrouded hammer would be a perfect carry gun. Being such a minority it seems anything in .41 mag we should be grateful for.

Do you already have one Tamara! Or two? :D

In all honesty, the X-frame (at least the permutations of it offered thus far) just doesn't really interest me, nor do the various Super Duper Magnum Cartridges on the north side of the venerable .44. If it can't be killed with a .44 Magnum, I probably shouldn't be shooting it with a pistol in the first place... :o

Tamara...I agree, but I would still like to have one (S&W 500)...great pics...I had a 629 with a 2-1/2 ich barrel for a while...special run of them I guess...sold it to help finance another. I really wanted a 3 inch model 629 with better sights...that will be my next one. This column always makes me want to spend some more $$ :)

Recoil and wood grips

Tamara, do you have problems with the wood grips taking hide off of your fingers with your short barreled boomers? I have 6 of the critters and the 44mag with the wood is brutal to shoot. I also have shot strings out of each chamber and find that 3 of them are more accurate than the rest. What causes that? Waddy

Short barreled big bores are the best!

This last one, well, it's not quite a snubby, but the barrel is under 4" (3 7/8"), and it's not quite a big bore...

big bore snubbies

I know this isnt the subject of this thread, but I must say that it never made much sense to me to chamber a revolver for an auto-loader cartridge...but thats just me

Sammunition.44mag,

It never made much sense to me to chamber a revolver for an auto-loader cartridge...but thats just me

Why not? A cartridge is a cartridge. Go watch revolver action shooting in IDPA, IPSC, and ICORE and see why they're popular. :)

Revolvers in auto-loader chamberings according to a purist

Perhaps I should have qualified my statement that it never made much sense to me to chamber a revolver in an autoloader cartridge. When you have a revolver specifically chambered for a pistol round, you must use those "moon" clips to keep the case heads at the proper place in the cylinder as well as aid in extraction of the empty cases. Admittedly, this arrangement makes for faster reloading...its like a speed-loader, but thats what speed-loaders are for :D But if for whatever reason you dont have the moon clips when you carry or use your gun, youve got a problem on your hands. In other words, its just something else that can go wrong. A quick examination of an autoloader cartridge reveals that the case is designed specifically for pistols. This case design simply works better in an autoloader, although there are autoloaders that are chambered for revolver rounds, like the now defunct Coonans and ofcourse the Desert Eagles that seem to function reliably enough. ( Hmm...a gas operated pistol chambered for a revolver round? How crazy is that? This gun seems to be TAILOR-MADE for the .50 AE round, even though that round came along only relatively recently. I mean, if youre going to have a Desert Eagle, with all its weight and bulk, why get it in anything other than .50 AE, since its a big bore autoloading cartridge designed for use in a big bore autoloader to begin with? But I digress..) The difference is that no special accessory is needed for the pistol that is chambered in a revolver round. And many if not most of the two types of handgun cartridges (pistol and revolver)are equivalents. For example, the .41 mag and the 10mm auto are pretty much the same round ballistically speaking. So if you wanted a revolver in that power range, you would be best served by getting a .41 mag, and if its a pistol you want, get it in 10mm. .357sig in pistol and .357mag in revolver. 9mm in a pistol as opposed to .38 special in a revolver, .45 acp in a pistol and .45 LC in revolver, .44 automag in a pistol (I know, I know, its a wildcat, but you get the point) and .44 rem mag in a wheelgun...etc etc IMO...BTW, Ive been wrong lots of times..if somebody sees any holes in my thinking , please chime in. Thanks

.45 acp should actually be paralled with .45 autorim.

.45 colt is much longer and in theory would require a bigger package (if anyone bothered to make cylinders in a .45 revo that is.

Hey Tamara nice Sebenza!! Can't believe noone commented on that, even though this is a gun forum...

Compared to a Chris Reeve this CRKT M16-Z is a rusty meathook, fit only for opening packages and the occasional vicious transvestites we have here in LA... :D

I carry a S&W M296 every day. An 18 ounce .44 Special should count! It's a real handful with the CorBon load but I do have confidence in it. Love that L frame Centennial.

I've been looking at that Super Redhawk Alaskan. It would be "cool" just to pull out and show people but it just might have some practical applications as well. A .454 is just a .45 Colt that got ambitious. The Alaskan is a heavy duty stainless steel revolver that you can load as heavy as you like. I could see getting a sturdy leather holster and belt and making it your regular carry gun around a ranch. Load three "Keith style" .45 Colts up front and then three .454's. If you needed to dispatch a skunk or other vermin, the .45 Colts are fine. If you decide you have to kill a bull that has you trapped in a corner, you've always got the big boys in reserve. (Or some poachers or rustlers try to run you over with their pickup truck.)

I'm always looking for big bore guns to carry around the property. I MAY very well end up buying one. I love my full size SR so I might as well have a short version!

.41 Mag Snubbies

Back around 1984 or so, Lew Horton had S&W run off 500 M657's with round butts and either a 2.5" or 3" barrel, so they're out there as collector's guns now. I was out of work and couldn't afford the *gasp* $296 wholesale to get one. :(

No one here has mentioned the Taurus M415 - a 2.5" ported, .41 Mag 5-shot (K-frame sized) snubbie. They make it in Titanium too which is a hoot to fire.

Taurus also offers snubbies in .45LC and 44Spl. All of these are good carry guns or backup guns.

625 questions!

Asmodeous!!! Oh - my - GOD!!  That is one beautiful custom 625 you pictured!! And it can handle .45 WinMag??? (With moonclips obviously) Please tell me more! Where did you get it done? How can I do the same? Did they (whoever built it) actually say that you could put WinMag in it?? If so - wouldn't that mean that you could put the 'hot' (Ruger and T/C only) 45 Colt loads in it???? Looks like it would carry pretty well too (ever use it for CCW)? Do you feel it's too big? Holy COW man!! I'm drooling...
