How would your LEO react?

So I was out on the motorcycle runnin' errands a earlier today when I was sitting at a red light when a Sheriff's deputy stops in the lane next to me, rolls his window down, points at me and yells "you're showing". I look down and my shirt and hoodie have run up and over the grip on my CCW (HK USP Compact in Galco Summer Comfort), showing everyone that I'm carrying. I pulled them down and covered it back up. He didn't seem too worried as the light turned green and we both went on our merry way. I was at least expecting him to pull me over and check my DL/CHL but nope. This is Amarillo, TX and Amarillo's not a big city but not that small of a town either.

In my locale, that same encounter would probably not go so well. Very few carry permits are issued in my area, and the counties that do freely issue them are nowhere close by. Hooray California! :p

Interesting. Most of our local LEOs are very pro-gun. Technically, what you describe would be illegal here so I'm not sure how they'd react. Might depend on if they thought anybody else knew that they saw it. I guarantee that most of them wouldn't be concerned, it would just be a matter of public perception.

It's quite possible the deputy had been following you longer than you were aware of, had called in the plate number of your motorcycle, and had been advised the bike owner had a permit. If there was such a check and it had come back no permit, or outstanding warrants, it would have been handled much differently.

Apparently the deputy made a judgment call, "no harm, no foul".

In Pinal County AZ it would depend on the Deputy. if it was one of Babeau's personal squad members, you would have been on the ground and cuffed.

As carry, open or concealed, is not regulated in VT, I honestly have no idea how a LEO would react in your scenario...

The last reaction I got was a typical oh well. About 6 months ago.
Long story made short...truck broke down, embarking on an 80 mile walk.
"Can't walk on the interstate" a few miles later says the State Trooper in the SUV so I got in the front seat. Riding down the road feeling guilty, put my hands on my knees and told him "the reason I was walking instead of hitchhiking was because I had a permit." He said "you have a firearm on you now?"
"Yeah"
"Thanks"
He said he was driving to some bomb squad scene about 20 miles past where I was headed, so he dropped me off at my exit 75 miles later.

Typical OK no big deal encounter from my perspective, but I've wondered if he re-evaluated how he goes about picking up people walking down the road.

Despite that Texas is a shall issue state with record numbers of CHLS now, in The People's Republic of Austin you'd likely be in jail for...something.

Zinc- in Austin the charge would have been for not riding a self propelled conveyance aka a bicycle.

Hoytinak- amarillo zoo- total dissappointment

Fl allows for printing and accidental/temp displaying.

I'm in Miami. Best case scenario: the taser wouldn't hit me anywhere too sensitive. Worst case scenario: me and seven bystanders end up in the hospital.

Since in NC open carry is legal, I would not have said a thing. I would not have mentioned it to "just be nice" either....Why? If I had, before the end of the shift that night I am sure a complaint would come in about me harrassing a concealed permit holder.

As far as people carrying concealed or open. If its not illegal, nothing I can do, if it is illegal, any discretion I have is slowly getting cut away, so more then likely it would result in a charge for whatever violation it is in reference to. As time rolls along there s getting to be less of a chance to be a "nice guy" to another.

That scenario is more common than you think.....bikers need to be aware of wind turbulence.

Here there would most likely be nothing said since OC is legal. He might have saved you from harassment by another cop who might not have been as nice.

You were going to WALK 80 miles?

And you were purposefully not attempting to get a ride because you were carrying?

OC and CCW is ok here in Ohio. He'd get a Thumbs Up from me.

Anytime someone tells me he has a CCW permit, mybresponsecis, "Good. I wish everyone did".
