how to master first pull - DA in a DA/SA pistol

In my opinion practice is the only way. Lower the hammer and shoot round after round after round in DA. Of course dry firing helps too.

I have no intention of mastering the DA of SA/DA pistol. If the threat is emminate and close DA is, hopefully, good enough. Otherwise I cock the hammer. SA works best for me, hitting the paper at 25 yards in DA is all I can expect. Especially across different pistols.

Watch the Langdon vids and read, then dry fire straight through the pull.

Look at a GOOD DA/SA gun with a good DA pull. Check out the SP 2022. Best OTB DA pull out there. with some work, you will master it. Dry fire in a discilpined manner. When you hit the range, do DA only and DA/SA drills.

Are you suggesting that polishing up tool marks on internal surfaces is worthless?
Much like putting Nikes on a newborn, until a person gets a modicum of trigger control it's not going to help someone learn trigger control.

When shooting competitions or other demanding shooting environments a good trigger can make the difference between winning and losing.
Jerry Miculek is widely recognized as best DA shooter in the world actually has a heavier than stock trigger return spring.

The DA/SA debate is overblown.

Every trigger press is the same: consistent, smooth, 80/20 with the last 20% being a point of focus for having your finger flat and the pull as flat as possible, riding the trigger through the break and the shot, holding the trigger to the rear, then slowly riding it forward to the reset. All while maintaining a good grip and clear front sight.

If my firearm switches to Single Action mode, the only difference is the distance that my trigger finger travels to achieve the same results.

No matter what firearm I am using, the trigger press is the same: consistent, smooth, and then worked to reset.

Headshots at 25 yards are no problem with a DA Sig or a DA revolver. If you have the luxury of time before a shot, cock the hammer. If not, don't sweat it and rely on the fundamentals. Anyone that tells you to waste the first shot, even if his name is Jeff Cooper, is honestly full of crap.

As fishbed said, there is only one correct trigger press, and it doesn't differ from firearm to firearm.

The Travis Haley links earlier are some of the best pistol shooting videos on the net in terms of quality information in the amount of time presented.

DA/DAO is no harder to shoot well with than anything else. It seems to be harder for SA shooters to adjust, but thats a shooter issue, not the guns. DA, and especially DAO shooters, tend to be more rounded and less trigger phobic, and really have little trouble shooting anything they pick up.
Excellent way of putting it, AK! Three of these four are in my EDC rotation; the lightest of which has a 6.5# pull (CZ P-07 Duty DAO), the heaviest is the Beretta PX4 D @ 9#.

It's a matter of training, and unfortunately, more and more shooters aren't wanting or willing to make the time to do that. Seems A LOT of new shooters want to get one of the many popular striker-fire pistol and immediately start modding the trigger to a lower pull weight and trigger travel.
