How The British See US - A Must Read

It is interesting when some people point to other countries as a valid comparison or example for America. The essence of America to me has been that there is no comparison. Our history is different, our existence has been different. If there is too much emphasis placed on other countries being the way we should be guess where we'll end up? If thats what the sheeple want, save us the trouble and move to that other country now!

Nope. I've been arguing with an Englishman over at the "Poets & Writers" boards who assured me for the longest time that nobody in England cared a bit about firearms.

'Course, he also reacted violently to finding out that I carry a knife and (gasp) pepper spray. To the point of streams of profane ranting about my psychological problems.

Come to think of it, I'm getting a little sick of that wee limey twerp. I think I'll go tell him so. :D
Where's Lone Ranger when we need his wisdom?

Winston Churchill must be spinning in his grave. What an irony that a country that once boasted an Empire has become so lame.
A few weeks ago I had a British gentleman visit my shop. I had just recieved a new Bushmaster via UPS that day and he was fascinated with it; wanted to have me take his picture with it. He said that the open borders between England and other members of the EEC, plus the "Chunnel" make it possible for criminals to drive into France, buy whatever handgun they can afford, stick it under their car seat, and drive home without having to go through any border customs. Hence, only the bad guys have guns while the people who abide by the law, crazy though it may be, are defenseless. He also said that the assault rate has been on the increase, though the media tries to sidestep that bit of news. What a sad and pitiful state of affairs.

Battler--agreed! I have to think that the concept of civil liberties just never trickled down enough for the majority of Brits to comprehend it. So I guess they were willing to get rid of what they never had or never appreciated in the first place. Now their government uses paternalism to camouflage the prison bars.

Zensho--well said! I get really tired of anti-gunners who whine that America should be more like England or Japan or wherever. It's like they're ashamed of their own heritage and think that the beacon of civilization only shines somewhere else.
