how much gun control do you want?

A WWII vet told me that EVERY American should have a M1 Garand

Yeah, but how are you going to pass out 5 million guns to 300 million people? ;)

hunter safety courses which seem to be taught every third full moon when it falls on the second Sunday of the month,

I don't know where Middle Earth is, but around here, if you can't find a hunters safety class, you definitely are not paying attention to the notices at gunstores, hardware stores and Wal-Mart.

Good point, but isnt that what a sky marshal is for?

Yes you are correct. lets see though. 1 Marshall on maybe every 25-50 flights. If the flight he is on is the one attacked then there is most likely more than 3 attackers leaving the marshall severly outnumbered in the confines of an aircraft. So I say ARM 'EM ALL!. 3 terrorist facing 150 guns will loose quickly, and the colateral damage a lot more acceptable than if they gain control.

I disagree. They pay their debt they get a do over. If they can't be trusted to act responsibly in polite society they should not be allowed back into it.

Yup. I've never understood those who support NICS checks for felonies.

This is what they're saying: We're all about rehabilitation, not punishment. He's reformed, let him go. Hey don't let him have a gun, he'll kill somebody!

If a violent felon is a dangerous person, he should not be allowed to possess a gun, knife, rock, or a fist. He should not be allowed to walk on a public street, like the one in front of my house, where my kids play. Which means he needs to stay in prison.

Wayne on gun control:

No gun control laws. Anyone old enough to be out on their own should be allowed to have guns shipped to their front door. Any guns. And carry them pretty much anywhere except a prison.

Mandatory training? A class in school would be a good idea. Gun safety should be common knowlege among the general public, same as anything they cover in health class or driver's ed.

The world would be a different place if I ran things. :D

+1 to Wayne for post #44! :)

For full autos I feel that the law on the books is good as it stands. If you cant afford the tax stamp and cant pass the background check you dont need one. Crinimals cant afford the price of admitance to the auto world unless there stolen.

You're okay with "the [full auto] law on the books ... as it stands"?!
Are you aware that the laws regarding full autos provide that you can't own one manufactured after 1986 -- so there is a VERY FINITE supply of them. Even if it were easy to get the approvals necessary before you can purchase one (and I'm sure it can be very difficult to pursuade an anti-gun judge or sheriff in some jurisdictions), there are now only so many full-auto guns to go around. Period.

So unless it became legal to trade in newly-manufactured full-auto guns, the general public is screwed by these laws. Should it cost upwards of $8000-10,000 for an M-16??! WHY? The price is that ridiculously high only because of the laws that you say should stay the way they are. Were you simply unaware of the state of the laws, and what they do, before you said that?

Oh, and it's not as simple as just "qualifying" to purchase these guns -- it's not about just paying for the tax stamp and getting a background check. As I understand it, you have to get a judge or sheriff to sign you off for the purchase. As I said, in some localities, that may be next to impossible to get them to agree to do. Try doing it in Massachusetts, Maryland, California, Illinois... ad nauseum. :barf:

Hell, it'd probably be hard enough in a relatively pro-gun state like Florida, if you lived in Miami or somewhere like that.
