I wonder how the poll would look if it was a law abiding mayor who married two guys in contravention of state law :)

While carrying? Are you describing a shotgun wedding? Wouldn't those two guys already be brothers?! :D

Same answer, why wouldn't it be?

Because based on previous threads discussing gay marriage, as well as plenty of random posts elsewhere, there are a large number of posters here who would not support such an act.

So while you, me, and some others may answer the same I have little doubt the overall vote would change significantly.

Looking at the poll results...a small minority..but still too many.

Too many that believe that the law trumps rights and freedom.

Possibly, but we will never know cause that one would get shut down in a minute

Personally I believe the vote would go along the same lines, sheep are sheep

If being a sheep means obeying the law and working with the system in a mature responsible way, becoming involved in the process and being a good citizen, ratrher than ranting on the internet about unconstituional laws and how you should be able to pick and chose the laws YOU want to obey without regard to the consequences to the polity of such anarchy, and further not having enough cojones to go out there and test the law you feel is so wrong and horrible, then if thats a sheep then I say

That would be a good rebuttal if that was what the discussion was about
But it's not
The specific question is would YOU vote to convict in the scenario presented
If I am ever asked to serve on a jury addressing this issue I will test the law.

And by sheep I mean not having the cojones to actually think for yourself but instead allowing others to dictate your beliefs according to their interpretations and getting bunched up when your attempt at self righteous indignation backfires on you

Money, schmoney...if you come on this Board and present yerself as a constituional expert you should be able to DIY :)

Wow..never viewed law as someone else's interpretation.....

What he said. Until its time to vote from the roof tops (and I'd be surprised if 1% of this board had the gumption to do such a thing) we have an obligation to work within the system. The law and the constitution are NOT a salad bar.

A wise woman once wrote that America is in an awkward stage, because, "it's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards."

Why are they a salad bar for the government, but not a salad bar for everyone else? Clearly politicians have no problem violating the highest law of the land at every turn.

I agree that, in general, it's better to go along to get along and follow the laws. But laws that are blatantly unconstitutional are there to be broken.

As for "voting from the rooftops"...well, I have no desire to harm anyone. I don't even hunt animals. If I ever have to shoot someone, it will be because they first tried to arrest or shoot me for violating the tyrannical whims of some power-hungry politicians. Dying quickly while striking a blow for freedom is certainly preferable to being taken away to some dungeon to live with Bubba for years.

it's too late to work within the system,

If you think that, its time to join Alec Baldwin and Johnny Depp as an Expat :)

But laws that are blatantly unconstitutional are there to be broken.

Blatantly unconstituional laws generally would be subject to injunctive relief. So rather than take the law into your own hands, go get an injunction. The pro choice crowd does when they get the blatantly unconstitutional restriction laws enjoined :)

Cant think of more than one or two gun laws that are blatantly unconstituional though...

Seeing that if the numbers are correct, then when there are unjust laws, most here feel it's OK to break those laws...are these the same folk who support what some call "amnesty" regarding the undocumented...because if that is so, then why haven't you all commented on the other threads regarding these "criminals" who have the audacity to break our immigration laws and just invite themselves in? Why the answer is right here in this thread...it's OK to break a law or 2, or 3, or whatever, so long as the law is unjust. Now I get it. (Sorry...did not mean to hijack this thread).
