How many people

i couch sleep mostly (bad back). i sleep right on top of my mossberg 500 persuader pump 12 gauge, 6 shots of 00 buck, ohh im ready thats providing the crook gets by my 115lb german shepherd that sleeps 5 feet from me

+2 to the not a good idea IMHO....

Too many things can go wrong.....

2 Dogs in my home will wake me with more than enough time to reach the gun.....

I booby-trapped my front door and bedroom window with claymores. I wouldn't sleep with one under my pillow though, that just sounds dangerous.

LOL! A lot of "I wouldn't" but nothing about why you consider it dangerous, aside from the person that might get sopped on occasion. That was the first genuine good reason. How many of you carry? Don't you worry about your firearm doing a "Plaxico"? :o

Guys, this is just food for thought. There are folks out there that think carrying a handgun is dangerous too. (We all know someone like that.) Why is that not dangerous but pillow stashing is?

Not recommended but -Have I ever slept with gun under pillow, yep. Then,IMO circumstances warranted it. Today, Thank God ,waaaay different circumstances and I don`t. Dogs are close, weapons closer.

Really? Nothing about why we consider it dangerous? It's not about being drunk, it's about not being FULLY awake, aware and in complete control of your mind and body. That's pretty much a prerequisite for having a loaded weapon within reach. If you're asleep otherwise not fully awake, you're not a good candidate for gun handling.

Seriously, the very concept is so patently absurd I cannot imagine why I even bother responding, but I guess I'm bored.

Because I'm wide awake when I'm carrying.

Not a chance. And my wife doesn't either. But my 1911 is with arms reach with three full clips. And we have two schizoid cats to deter any would be intruder. I am hoping that one day they will attach themselves to an intruder's leg and he'll run away with the cat attached. Wishful thinking on my part.

Took me a bit, but I finally convinced my mother-in-law to let me unload the several revolvers and semi autos in various drawers around the house. She is 91 and doesn't have the strength to pull a double action revolver. But we did agree she could have her 257 Roberts loaded as long as she would keep it the gun cabinet next to her bed. That's the best that I could do. It would not be wise to visit her after dark or anytime to that matter.:D

We respond to these not out of boredom. But rather to see our name on the directory.:D:D:D

Mine is in a holster between the side frame and the box spring. Can reach down and grab it easily. Glock 23.

DBotkin, thank you for that. I've been waiting for something more concrete and there it is. But for some reason the nightstand seems to be a good place to lay a handgun while not being fully awake. I'm still not getting that.

As for the boredom thiing: I had just finished "building" a portion of a semester exam and got on TFL to take a break, when I saw this thread...

I don't sleep with my Sig under the pillow OR on the nightstand, but it's close. I hope I didn't push anyone's button. Happy New Year everyone!

NO!

I keep mine on the nightstand. No children in the apartment.

Keeping it under your pillow is bad. Why?

1. You move a lot in your sleep even if you don't know it.
2. You could potentially have a "sleep-walking" moment and I don't even need to explain that one.
3. If you do have a nightmare it will be the shortest nightmare of your life.
4. How comfortable can that be, sleeping with a gun under your pillow? And seriously, you'd be limited to your sleeping positions.
5. And last of all. If I did that I would end up throwing it across the room in my sleep because I get ****** when things get in the way of my sleeping.

Sincerely,
Joking but in all seriousness.
Don't do it.

I never sleep with a gun under my pillow... Though I do sleep with an M16 by my bed if that counts for anything...

Pillow

Other than the safety issue; and the "thin pillow issue" ;wherein you wakeup with the imprint of a pistol on the side of your otherwise handsome head, I'd say that there's a chance, under the pillow, that the gun will move around some, change position etc. When you reach for it.............and you're half asleep with an adrenalin dump in process, it ain't there, or there but different.....not good.
My problem is that I'm right handed and sleep on the left side of the bed nearest the door...havent yet been able to resolve the acrobatics involved in getting the pistol to hand gracefully.....however, whatever I settle on, I will "habitualize" the movement.

No lie I slept with my m9 across my chest in Iraq.

First of all, thank you sincerely for your service in Iraq. Second, That was Iraq and therefore perfectly warranted.

Now for me. I used to keep my P89 in between my bed frame and box springs in a holster that I rigged onto the bedframe. My oldest son is now 2 (almost 3) and therefore that location has since been abandoned. I now keep my M&P 9c with crimson trace laser grips in a Picture Safe mounted on the wall next to my bed. It is pretty cool and nobody knows it is a gunsafe

If you have a gun safe in the nightstand, it's a lot better idea. I wouldn't recommend *laying* it on the nightstand.

I would like to get another one for the living room downstairs. I am not sure where it was purchased though as it was a Christmas gift from my mother and father-in-law last year. I can find out though if you would like.
