How many of you carry full size guns daily? And how do you do it?

I find that most of the talk of CCW on here concerns mini-glocks, Kahrs, snubbies, that sort of thing. Do any of you guys carry full size guns? Like Goverment models, Sig 220, Glock 17, Beretta 92, that kind of thing.

And I mean daily carry, how do you do it?

I ask because I'm thinking about trying to carry a full size Gov.Model full time. I'm a big dude, 6'4" 285, most likely inside the waist band, with a baggy shirt over it.

I am only 6 feet tall and weigh 220 pounds.
I have carried A Colt 1911 or a SIG-Sauer p220 with no difficulties. Just be careful when you choose a holster.

I formerly carried a full-size steel 1911, but for the last couple of years have more frequently carried an HK USP-Compact in .45. It's lighter than the 1911, but thicker. I've been thinking about going back to the 1911. It just handles better to me (I have a few decades more experience with it than with the HK).

Carry method: usually a belt slide, but a big guy with baggy pants can easily get away with IWB. I'm 6'2" and it works for me. Someone your size should have no problem at all. Do it!

I managed to scare the better portion of Downtown Saltlake City Utah one day trying to carry a Glock 17. I'm 5'8" 140, and needed a haircut and shower at the time. Needless to day I'm much better at concealment now, I know my body's limitations and carry a Beretta 3032 in the summer and a 1911a1 in the winter.

Hi Correia - you should have no trouble carrying the full size GM, as I find it the easiest to carry of my full-size pistols. I'm 6'4", and 300 lbs, and my 5" Kimber just disappears in my IWB holster. I also carry my SIG 226/220 and CZ-75 with no problems, but with no more than an untucked shirt and a decent holster your GM should be all but invisible. Just remember to bend more with your knees than your waist and you'll do fine. No one has "made me" carrying in this fashion for 13 years now! :)
Best of luck!

I am 5'10", 200 lbs and carry a full size 1911 in an IWB strongside holster here in Central Florida. I conceal it under an untucked polo shirt or a light athletic vest. They key is to find a good, stiff belt and a quality holster...with those, you can carry a heavy gun without discomfort.
A lot of it is mental as well...you need to do it for a while until you find out just how well it conceals before you stop getting the feeling "everyone can see it!"

HK USP40 full size in S. Florida.

Only 5'7" @ 185-my other hobby is lifting weights. Can easily hide the full size chunky pistol under untucked light button down shirt or big -T. Agree w/RikWriter-good belt holster is critical. I am not a big fan of the "smaller is better" camp.

I have carried a Walther P99 in a Kydex IWP holster covered with a large t-shirt. It works just fine. :)

S&W Model 19, 2.5". Don't know if that fits your definition of a full-size handgun or not.

I also occasionally carry an HK P7M13.

Both are carried in shoulder holsters under either a jacket or a pull-over.

I carry a SIG P220 in 45ACP on strong side hip. I carry it all day everyday. I've tailored my cloths to having a gun everyday.

Height: 5' 11", weight: MTE, carry gun: 1911A1, method: Alessi strong side belt holster in fall, winter and spring or when I can wear a vest, "Mexican" in summer or when I can't wear a vest, under a untucked shirt, long tee shirt or a polo shirt.

I'm 5'7" and 180lbs, (no, I am not fat!) ;) I carry a full size 1911(ok, the barrel is 1" shorter, but the frame is full sized) every day. I carry IWB with a good holster and belt (Mark DeCoveny). IWB's the easiest way, at least with the slimness of a 1911.

i am 5"7 170lbs, pretty thin, not fat. i carry a full size 1911 with it showing at all. i have a ken burnam holster that sits pretty high into my ribs and a dual mag pouch on the other side, i just wear bulky shirts alot, you cant even tell.

As stated above, I feel like everyone is looking at me when I carry... but that's because carrying is new to me. I seem to be acquiring Dunlap's Disease. My belly dun-lapped over my belt. Honestly, I don't think I'd carry anything "big" except during the colder seasons. I'm eagerly awaiting the the next ice-age for the world to freeze over so I can carry the Ruger ;)

5'8", 155#; for deep cover, I carry a P7 in a defender belly band.

I carry a .45USP Tactical, Sig 226, and P7 strong side high, high ride kydex holsters. I use all models in Mad Dog's Gun Gloves, all in the Taylor Thunderbolt high, high ride. With the right belt (Wilderness Combat Shooters or 1/4" Matt DelFatti leather) these holsters offer placement for a large weapon that leather simply can not provide. I personally find this to be the most secure and discreet and quickly accessible way to carry large sidearms.

For a while I carried a 629 with a 3" barrel. The wieght was not a problem but trying to hide that 5 gallon cylinder can get to be a challenge. I'm 6'3" and 275 with a tummy but not much for love handles. As the rest of the crew stated above, a good belt is a MUST! I've graduated to 1911's and that slim slide is a real treat to carry.

Carry on :)

I am 5'11'' and 155 lb. I carry Coonan Arms
model B in .357 Mag (its a REALLY BIG 1911 type pistol. Much larger then your standard Gov. model) full time in the Galco vertical shoulder rig. I either wear suit jacket over it or light shirt. It is conceals like a dream. I would tell people that I am carrying and ask them to locate the gun by looking at me. They can NEVER see it.
