How many guns do you bring to the Range?

my rule of thumb is 1 gun, plus 1 additional gun per person per 30 minutes at the range. Usually 2-4. Sometimes I use any given firearm longer, sometimes shorter, but generally they all get used, and generally I don't feel the need for more.

Only constant is the Makarov as it's my SD/ccw and therefore advisable to practice with.

It really depends on your level of experience. If you're relatively new to shooting, or if you're trying to improve in a certain area, you'll be doing yourself a disservice by bringing the whole arsenal with you. It's best to focus on one gun at a time, especially if the guns you bring use different actions.

Generally, I bring whatever I'm carrying, plus something supplemental if I feel like mixing things up a bit. Anything else is a distraction and more stuff to clean when I'm done.

I always bring too many but never have enough. :p

I walk to the safe and say "taking the Howa, two AR's, my Enfield, my SLR" etc. until I realize I don't have enough room for the ammo WITH the guns so I have to pick two I NEED to shoot (sighting in or practice), then I pack a couple fun ones like the .22's and a couple pistols.

ETA: I need a truck but I drive a Miata.... :o

I usually bring two, but if/when I bring more, I try to stay consistent with the manual of arms during any given practice/range session.

(Personal opinion to follow) I understand variety is the spice of life, but looking at JustinBiscuit's photo, I see six very different pistols:
1. Sig 226 - traditional DA/SA, no external safety (+ a weaponlight)
2. some sort of revolver with an exposed hammer - DAO
3. sort sort of 1911 - SAO only, grip safety + sweep-down-to-fire frame-mounted thumb safety
4. Beretta 92FS Inox - traditional DA/SA, sweep-up-to-fire slide-mounted safety
5. some sort of HK - traditional DA/SA with a sweep-down-to-fire frame-mounted thumb safety
6. sort sort of Springfield XD - striker-fired "DAO" (sorta), grip safety

If you're shooting for fun -- that's a nice collection! But if you're practicing for defensive proficiency, isn't going back and forth between all those different types of safeties/triggers a bit much? I don't get it. It's like a NASCAR driver going to the tracks (his version of the range) and driving not just the car his life depends on, but lots of different types (SUV with automatic transmission, tiny little hybrid, luxury sedan with manual transmission, etc) all in the same practice session, one after another. Again, as a collection/hobby -- I'm jealous. But what's that saying about fearing a man with only one gun?

I usually take 2-3 along on any trip. One of them is usually a .22LR
Sometimes it's rifles, other times it's pistols... but the handguns predominate.
More than 3 at a time, and I'm in for a long cleaning session afterwards

I usualy take about 3 or 4 guns. Usualy a couple of hand guns, and 2 rifles. I have taken as many as 20 to the range before. (Will not do that again. A lot to hump in, and out. As well as a lot of guns to clean aterwards.

My bag gets too heavy with more than 3 guns and the ammo. I need to walk a bit so one trip is my rule. I usually have a .38 revolver, .40 auto, and .22 auto.

I go every 2 weeks. I always take whatever I'm using as my CCW at the time which at the moment is a S&W 642. With that I take a second gun based on whatever I feel like shooting that week and/or have some ammo for. I'd love to take more guns but range time and ammo just get too expensive. Also cleaning 2 guns later that day is enough for me.

Most times I take two but somtimes only one or occasionly three. More than three means a lot of cleaning time.

Never more than 3 to an indoor range, usually 2. Bringing more of the arsenal would be like packing too much luggage for a vacation. I don't particularly enjoy shooting at indoor ranges anyway, too limiting.

Shooting on open private land however, is a different story! There I can engage in freestyle "seek and destroy" target shooting, and it's not unusual for me to bring 2-3 handguns and 2-3 long guns. :D I'll always have the Hi-Power, 686 and MkIII .22 LR when I go outdoors, in addition to my 8mm and SKS or Saiga, sometimes my 30" barrel 12 GA for some skeet shooting. This is my biggest motivator for buying some land (that and ATVing/Enduro riding), although I have other things to take care of first.

So many I had to get one of those 2 wheeled luggage carriers for my ammo and guns. And that's for my hand guns. I have no time limit at my range so I shoot as much as I can stand. Something like 4 38's, 2 357, 2 9mm 3 45's 2 45 colts and 3 ammo boxes. :)

I average 3...............

But if we go to the outdoor range that allows long-guns, it averages 5. I like to take my time with each gun and really practice with it, so the only time I take more than 3 pistols is if I get a new toy, or am taking someone who wants to try a lot of guns.

Got that covered with my "range bag" I got a few years ago as a Christmas gift from my son. One of those soft side tool caddies from the big box home improvement place. Lots of room for targets, tools, eye and ear protection, spotting scope, guns, ammo, etc. It is on wheels, and has a luggage style retractable handle which I also can hang a smaller range bag and rifle rest on. That along with a fold up two wheeler which I made a rifle rack to hold up to 5 rifles on makes getting everything to the bench a lot easier.

When my range trips were weekly i would bring 10-15 guns so i could let them cool and vary my shooting between repetitions.

Now that i work next door to the range I go 4 times a week and bring 2 or 3 guns each visit.

I keep the firearms in a wheeled duffel bag; typically there's about 10 pistols in it, each with their own labelled Midway tac pistol case. I store / lock away the entire duffel bag when finished, and clean as necessary. That way I never worry about whether pistol X or Y is along for the trip.

Typically I shoot at least a couple magazines through each of my CC guns (Walther P99 AS, P99c AS, PPS, and Ruger LCR), spend the bulk of the trip on a particular gun, and finish up with a Ruger Mark III or Browning Buckmark.

Wife shoots what wife shoots - currently it's her Kimber Custom Aegis Pro and her SR9c, both in 9mm. She usually finishes up with a Ruger Mark III hunter. Others include her P238, our 9mm Beretta Px4, and her .357 SP101.

I carry one gun on my hip, that is my carry gun for the day, it stays in the holster and does not get shot that day. I carry 3 in my range bag for shooting that day. I rotate the guns so over a 2 month period, they all get thier turn being shot and in the holster.

I try to stick to 1 or 2...

I clean my guns after each range session, and 2 is enough to clean. On the rare occasion I take 3, then I usually only clean 1 of them that day after getting home, then save the other 2 till the next day or latter in the week.

I try to stay on top of the guns so they are always clean and ready to sit around for a year in case I dont happen to bring one of them back out for a while.

The only exception is when I'm planing on shooting 1 gun a few times during the week. Then I might just touch it up with a quick wipe down and drops of lube between range trips.

So for me, 2 is usually the max. I couldent stand to bring 5 or 6 guns, shoot them all, and then go home knowing they all need to be cleaned... hmmm. If I didnt have to work, maybe I'd be ok with that.:D
