Interesting results so far... seems like most everyone stops around 25 or less, or keeps accumulating to somewhere above 50.

Not enough and I have the opinion of one can never have enough guns. As a side note IMO it is none of a strangers business as to how many firearms "I" own so there for:p

In todays world and society. Guns are your overall best investment. Even a better investment that gold.

How many anyone owns....should be a very PRIVATE Confidential thing.

For some folk - They can never own enough.

I do agree that a gun is a good investment. Personally I am not into the gold thing...but that is another thread. A gun not only is fun to have, it is useful. It might even save your life. It will have good trade value if the dollar does bottom out. If not it might go up in price someday. Did pick up gun #4 this morning.

I have 4 now.

1. AK-74
2. CZ-75 PCR - I will never give this gun up. When I carry, this is what I carry.
3. Bersa Thunder .380 ACP. Car carry.
4. CZ-85B Combat.

I wanted a full size 9MM, so I bought the CZ-85B. Now thinking of selling/trading it for a XD/XMD in .40

Also thinking about two additional guns - a 20 gauge pump (I don't do well with 12 gauge) and building an AR.

For me, 4 to 6 is about right. I wish I had the time and money to collect and shoot many more, but that's not the case. At least according to the family CFO.

I am curious as to how you came to this conclusion? At best if you choose to sell other than high dollar C&R or collectibles IMO the best you may be able to do is break even on a private sale and as to trade in lose your shirt.

One of my aunts just moved into an "independent senior living" complex - we went out to lunch last week, and she handed me a sack of handguns when we got back to her car.

1916 Erfurt Luger 9mm, Iver Johnson .32 S&W Safety Automatic hammerless breaktop, 1910 Mauser .25acp, and a couple Hubley cap guns. :)

The Luger is all matching, right down to the magazine, and still has its original holster, complete with the take down tool.

The Luger & IJ shoot fine, but the Mauser is missing its magazine and firing pin assembly. :(

I own 22 as of this poll. I've had to sell 11-12 over the years. My collection is pretty well pared down and also, complete. May be getting one more shotgun in a year or so but for now, that's about it.

When I was younger I wanted one (...or many more) of everything; I found I hardly had time to clean, reload and shoot for what I had. As I got older I started to subscribe to the 'Quality, not Quantity' creed, got rid of some of my little used or more common items, and just built up around what I really wanted to keep, adding some nice items along the way. As it is, I've always hovered around 20-25 and that's where I'm at now, and I don't expect it to get appreciably bigger or smaller.

10- 22lr
24- centerfire bolt rifles
28 shotguns
5 ar 15's
5 ar 10's
2 glocks
2 kimber 45's+
1 wrist rocket sling shot
Over 50000 rds of ammo+
Reloading equipment
enough gunpowder to blow myself to the moon &
Enough bullets to rain down hell on the trip back
a con ex buried in my back yard six foot deep with alternative power and water supply
Enough canned food to feed a family of five for six months
Did u hear that noise?!!
Call me paranoid but when shtuff hits the fan, ill be prepared! ! Lmao!! That thing doubles pretty good as a man-cave. LOL!!

Should that number include the ones on the bottom of the Wisconsin River? If not then just 2 guns, a black powder gun and a BB gun. :D

Add one more. After much thought and research as to whether a Benelli was worth that much more than a Stoeger, I decided it wasn't, and bought a 28" Stoeger 3500/Max4 camo. After a few boxes of everything from 2 3/4 1 oz loads to 3 1/2" 1 3/4 oz loads, I must say I'm favorably impressed. :)

I gotta disagree with that comment. My parents bought me a Remington 1100 back when I turned 16. I bought my first handgun for myself on my 21st birthday back in 1982. Been buying guns ever since. I don't think I own a single gun that I couldn't sell for more money than I paid for it. I shoot my guns but I keep them in perfect condition. I would say most of them appreciate steadily at around 5% a year. More for some models or during an election year when everybody panics. Compare that to stocks for the last 12 years. If I had put $100,000 into an index fund 12 years ago, today it would be worth $100,000. Zero growth for over twelve years. And it wasn't even fun to own during that time!

If you had purchased $100,000 worth of just generally high quality S&W's and Colts and HK's twelve years ago, they would be worth.... more.... depends on what models.... but they would sure as heck be worth more than 100k today! Just look at what has happened to S&W N and K frames in the last decade. I used to be able to buy S&W M28's every day for $250-$275. Now you are hard pressed to find any decent older N frame for less than $500. And something like my first year production M58? Oh my! Or my 1969 Colt Python? And, as I said, I really prefer an investment I can keep at my house and enjoy during my years of ownership. Much as I enjoy owning Apple stock, I don't get to take it out in my pasture and enjoy shooting it. Or use it to kill a deer, etc.
