It's about 13 miles (about 2 miles as the crow flies) to the range that I'm a member of, which allows for targets or gongs out to just shy of 700 yards.

Aside from that, you're looking at about 85 miles (the shortest way) to get to the next closest "usual" place...

Like Sevens...
The local range is used for range "trips".
All other 'trips' are range days.

I am about an hours drive from my usual shooting areas.

There are a dozen or so ranges near me (1/2-10 miles), but I avoid them like the plague. I prefer BLM/Forest Service land. It's a longer drive, and more expensive (gas, drinks, munchies vs. just the range fee) to head out in the boonies, but, I don't have to deal with RO's who think they're god, fellow shooters that don't follow the rules, limitations on shooting distance, losing my brass, rules on types or caliber of firearms, or being elbow to elbow with 50 others guys the whole time I'm there.

I can head out to the desert, set up my targets at whatever distance I want, shoot 1 shot or 100 between checking or setting targets, shoot whatever guns I want as fast or slow as I want, take a break and have lunch and a nap, scrounge for brass other shooters have left for me, enjoy the scenery and wildlife, if I get tired of punching paper and soda cans I can go chase some Jacks and squirrels...............and 90% of the time, I won't see another person while I'm out there.

Used to be about 10 min from the club wher I was member. Then I moved and now its a good half hour or so drive to the new place. But thats to Saint Louis Benbhrest Rifle Club. I dont shoot benchrest but this is by far the nicest facility I've ever shot at.

Place where I shoot at most is about 6 miles from me. I also am trying to get memberships to 2 other ranges . One has a 500m range. The other is a 1000yd. range.
The 1000yd range is about 13 miles from the house.
The 500m range is about 20 miles from the house in the opposite direction.

25 miles from 100 to 300 yards, 36 miles to shootup to a mile. Have not done the mile there yet ,but was messing at 1400 yards here 3 weeks ago.

Or just open a door or window

I've done that. Out the kitchen window. Wife wasn't too happy about 223 brass in the sink, down the toaster 'n such.

I have shot several foxes and coyotes by just sticking the snout of the rifle out the front door.

I can get up to 400 yards in my back yard. About 1 mile from the house is a gravel pit on BLM land where I can get 2000+, it was abandoned but now the temp. reopened it to repave the highway. I'll get the range back this winter.

We have a 300 yard outdoor and an indoor range in town (10 miles). I use that to conduct matches and ccw classes.

6 miles one way, 9 the other.
This reads very funny as it's written. Like... "well, it's a pretty straight road to get to the range but it's a one-way and the road coming back has many, many, many, MANY turns in it."

This one is also funny. Wanna say that there is a mountain or a lake RIGHT in the way. Or an extremely tall wall. Or a large sinkhole. Or a volcano. Or quicksand. Or a SuperDuper Wal-Mart with a big parking lot. Or maybe there is a gun store there and to avoid spending money you have to take the 13 mile detour to avoid even seeing the place.

Sadly I'm the only thus far who responded >75 miles. It's actually about 90 miles.

There's closer places if I want to shoot indoors, but I don't like to shoot indoors so I don't do it very much.

Such is the price of living in an anti-gun city in a state where the nearest public DNR range is all the way at the other end of the state, a 5 1/2 hour drive.

It's a hundred and 145 to the family cabin

From there, another ten or so to National Forest lands. I do most of my shooting there. The in town range is about ten miles or so.

I used to shoot at a town owned shooting range 5 minutes down the road. Once the insurance company realized there was no range officers who supervised the range they dropped the insurance and they had to shut down. This was over a year ago and they haven't been able to open up because the neighbors who lived around the range protested, even though the range has been there for 50 years and they willingly bought a house near a shooting range. It's like buying a house near the airport and complaining about the noise. I live right near a military base, and hear live fire practice everyday from all types of weapon systems, doesn't bother me one bit.

I now have to drive over an hour anytime I want to shoot. The only other ranges near me are gun clubs that are not only expensive and require a sponsor, but require you to put in a certain amount of time every month helping out at functions and doing cleanup. I'm sorry, but if I am paying my hard earned money to shoot at your establishment, I am not going to work for you for free against my own will. I would have no problem if it was volunteer, as I often volunteered at the town range to do cleanups, but I don't like that they make it mandatory.

That isn't exactly what I was thinking as I wrote that, but I do like the comedic aspect.;)

The reality of the situation is that I live in the foothills above town. The range is due north of me, but it's on the other side of a bunch of farm land (with no public roads - not even dirt roads) and the foothills are broken in several places by some pretty nasty ravines. So, due to the rail and canal systems in the area, the only road that leads to the range is only accessible from the other side of the interstate that runs through town.

I have to drive about a mile and a half north; turn and drive down into, and half way across, town; drive north to the other side of an adjoining town; meander on up the residential street; cross the interstate; peel off the paved road; and meander south, through and across one of the ravines, back to the range.

I've created a highly accurate and detailed map to give you an idea of what the route looks like:

7 miles to the range, 15 miles to my buddy's farm, 30 miles to National Forest, 60 miles to the cabin. Take your pick, they are all decent places to shoot.

Two local outdoor ranges that I haven't been to for awhile, are both less than 10 miles away. And two indoor that I go to more often. (One more than the other.) Both are in Philly, just under 15 miles.

:D Nope, I live on a US highway, and to the north, the range, which includes a 600 meter, is on the old air force base. To the south, though a bit further, there is a range that includes an indoor pistol, plus outdoor pistol, rifle and shotgun areas. They are both owned by the same club, which I am joining post-haste.;)

I have an indoor range and LGS about 10 minutes from my house. The staff is friendly and the fee is $10 per visit with no time limit. Too easy.

@FrankenMauser,

Talk about going out of your way to get there. Have you considered a personal helicopter? ;)

I live two blocks inside of loop 410 and two blocks away from Pleasanton Rd here in San Antonio. The range is few miles south from the loop on Pleasanton Rd. I used to go there back in the 80s when it was all dirt and wood. Now it's modern and well setup and well regulated.
