How do you pronounce "Walther?"

That would sound very good if I just didn't have crowns put on a couple of teeth -- still a bit sore. But tomorrow is another day.

I was once at the airport (Charles de Gaulle) in Paris. I saw an officer wearing what looked all the world to me like a Walther P-38. He pronounced it "Manurhin".

Which brings up another very good point: What is the correct French pronunciation of "Manurhin?"

I pronounce it "Walther" until I want to impress someone. So, I guess when I'm at Gander Mountain, I say "Walter."

PS: I think in french is "Man-uhlan." But French is MANY years behind me.

Valter, with the final syllable not like the typical American er, more like Americans would pronounce the word "air", with the r being almost silent. Unless you are from southern Germany or Austria, and the r would be rolled a bit. If you listen to Hitler's speeches, it is obvious that he is from Austria, he had an Austrian accent and rolled his r's.

JFK really did blunder, whoever wrote his speech did not understand German very well. There is a big difference between "Ich bin ein Berliner" and what he should have said, "Ich bin Berliner".

Again, and sorry folks, but it's not spelled "Valter"

The "W" in Walther is spelled like the "W" in "wine" -- it's a soft "W" (in german ;) )

I do suddenly have a desire for some sauerkraut and sausage

Im my Mother In Laws kitchen sauerkraut is a side dish, sausages are covered in mustard and curry, sometimes on a stick. It is the German way :)

Cant get used to warm beer tho.......
