How do you deal with neighbors barking Dogs?

The dogs I dealt with barked ALL the time when the owners were away.

ALL the time.

I even taped it by putting a camcorder outside one night. Cops do not care. Takes TWO neighbors.

They were Shelties in both cases.

I believe a FORTUNE awaits the first Sheltie trap range.

The legal route seems to be taking them to civil court.

The DIY route is to set the dogs free. The owners don't take care of them, they annoy the crap out of you. It would be better for all concerned if they were on their own.

I hate yappy dogs. I like dogs that think of yappy dogs as appitizers.

Huskies aren't fond of other dogs either. Some say it's the "wolf" in them.

To the person who says his/her dogs only bark when someone is nearby - everyone I know that has nuicence dogs deny they are a nucence (I can't spell that word). Maybe someone walks by the house every 30 min. or a cat or something. I know cause I've been there. The simple solution is to keep your dogs in the house esp. at night. I've had dogs most of my life and if I can keep mine under control I expect others to do the same. Little yappers usually don't bother me cause their pip squeak voices don't penentrate walls and wake me up. A friend of mine lives next to people whos barking dog is so loud it hurts your ears, they can't even go out in their yard. Ironically enough, these are people who complain at people looking at their house (I'm not kidding). I would have killed that dog a long time ago.
The shock collars aren't so bad. My neighbor has two bassett hounds (she is a GOOD dog owner) and has to have one on them or they will bark non-stop. Sometimes they are out without their collars and they bark but I know the owner tries to control them and put up with the occasional lapse.

As a life time dog owner I take pride in keeping my dogs under control. My family had this same problems several years ago with my neighbor's German Shepard so my father got some alpha wolf urine which he mixed with water and sprayed along the common fence every few days. That dog never barked again and he would run away everytime he saw my father. I don't know why it works but it worked. By the way, anyone messing with my dogs will get same response as if they were messing with my child. I have an old couple who live nearby and they were complaining about my dogs barking during middle of the day so I set a camcorder pointed toward my back yard before going to work. I checked the tape when I got back home and found that the old man came behind my house (on my property) to fish in the afternoon. Obviously any dog will bark when a stranger comes within 10 feet of the fence. Next day I put a big sign post stating "PRIVATE PROPERTY, NO TRESSPASSING, TRESSPASSERS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT, NO MORE WARNING" with a 30-06 bullet (dummy round) on top. I never heard from them again.

Valerian root- available at most pharmacies and/or herbal shops. Roll up in a piece of bread ( 1 capsule for Sheltie, 2 for Labs, etc.). Same family as Valium and works quite well on dogs. It won't harm them (unless you overdose them), just puts them down for a nice sleep.
