How CCW-friendly is your state?

It would be safe to say that NJ is not one of the gun friendliest states. From what I've read, CCWs are rarely issued here. The application in NJ includes:

"Each person applying for a permit to carry a handgun must supply a letter of need, specific in content, as to why they have a need to carry a firearm in New Jersey..." The final decision seems to be left to the local police.

Have any Jersey people (non LEO) attempted this? Are there other states that I should not consider when making my retirement plans?

I'm not going to blow North Carolina's horn too loud, but It's Great here...
I rarely have to conceal anything I carry....
I prefer open carry, but in places where it's not polite, convienent or required, I cover up...

My
letter of need, specific in content, as to why they have a need to carry a firearm
was my SS# and a copy of my DL....

Ohio? Not very friendly. A CCW course will cost you $175, and even if you've got your card, you're likely to be in deep crap if you pull it out.

The only times I've done CCW was when I was backpacking. Never used it, but it was there. Some of that was in bear country in VA, but I slept better at night in the tent.

Here in Indiana it was very easy to get a permit. I went to the local police filled out a form sent it to the state police with a $10 money order and had my license in about a month.

Well I have Oregon , AZ and Fla. permits.:D
To get a Calif. permit I had to wait until my best friend(ex commanding officer) was mayor for a city 75 miles away and submit my app. to 'his' police chief who granted it (after "qualifying ect" ) IF I became a volunteer reservist who gives 8 hours a month free labor to the dept.:) But now I am a demi god in the whole state:D

I took the CCW course in Michigan and it took about 6 weeks to get my license. From what I hear even though it's a "shall issue" state, some areas around Detroit are still resistant.

Here in Colorado, I applied at the Sheriff's office, paid $150, and got my license in about 3 weeks. But Denver is apparently much like Detroit about actually "letting" people carry.

Is this a "city folk" versus "country folk" thing? I don't know, I just avoid both Detroit and Denver.

Just got mine here in Ga., was around $44.00, got it in six weeks. No classes as we are a shall issue state. With a permit we get to skip NICS check on purchase.

If you're planning to retire, knock Kalifornia off your list.

Not only are prices sky high out here on a lot of things, you have the idiot politics to deal with.

As for CCW in CA... :barf: :barf: :barf: don't even think about it unless you know someone in politics or you are in tight with the local CLEO.

Maryland is pretty much nonexistant. Does that count?

My friend is constantly griping about the laws over there. I like to razz him about the open carry and CCW allowances here in VA.:p

Florida, also known as the Gunshine state. Sent in a photo, copy of my DD214, no class required with it, and in about 5 weeks had my license................ck

keeps me living here...

I am very glad of VA's carry laws. An acquaintance of mine who lives in MD is jealous of the "lax" Virginia laws.

Correct about NJ, last I knew CCW licenses are issued by appointed Superior
Court judges, only individual I have known who had one got it because the
judge was his cousin.

Wow!

Don't get me started! I live in Illinois! We are almost as bad as California on stupid gun laws. There is no such thing as CC in Illinois. I guess it would be a bad thing if law abiding citizens armed themselves and were able to protect themselves off of their own property. Politicians here think guns kill people all by themselves!
