Home Defense

Bedside gun is a Smith 686 plus, loaded with seven rounds of 125 grain JHP .357 Magnum. Other firearms are located strategically around the house, including a Benelli Nova in the basement, stuffed with seven rounds of #4 buck.

Gee-I just have a few 5 shot .38s around, plus a Detective Special here on the desk. I imagine I can do what needs to be done with them. No zombies here.

By The Way...

As far as zombies go check out the book "The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead" by Max Brooks. Face the inevitable, people. The zombies will come. BE PREPARED.

(This is a real book. It's so awesome, too. I bought mine at Borders. It's on Amazon.com as well. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.)

Socrates-
I DO have a "few" higher powered weapons around! ;)
I just feel like the little .38s will do what needs to be done. I just remembered-the wife has a 20 ga. 870 handy, too.

Ditto.

If all that doesn't make them duck or leave, then I retreat to a .357 magnum 8 round, or a 17 round 9mm packed with GDHP x10, then Fiocchi 115g +P+ Nato x7!

Go ahead, make my day!!

My HD gun is a Glock 21SF. I have gotten very comfortable with Glocks and this one has a lot of firepower. I am still learning to use my Colt 1911, and I am more comfortable with my Glock.

I have several handguns in several places around the house. In my sock drawer I have a 686+ loaded with Cor Bon +p-and-a-half 115gr Sierra JHP. Elsewhere is my T-series Browning Hi Power, an old friend now loaded with std pressure Speer 124gr Gold Dot. An Airweight 637 is up front loaded with Remington +p 158gr LSWCHP. And my wife's 1908 .380 Colt Pocketmodel (with which she repelled boarders while I was deployed to Vietnam waters) is -- well ya know, I don't even know where it is!

Cordially, Jack

In a pistol safe next to our bed is a 2.75" ruger security six loaded with doubletap 158gr .357's. In the gun safe is a 8 shot 12ga loaded with low recoil 00 buck. On the 1st floor is a S&W 28-2 loaded with DT 158's, again in a pistol safe.

All my guns except a Mossberg 500 and my two carry guns are in my safe

Wow, armsmaster, if you would split that list out with me, I wouldn't need to worry about the rouge army platoon raids!

In this order:
1. Marlin .444 (big medicine) 265gr 5 shots
2. Browning B2000 00buck
3. S&W M&P 40 15 rounds of 155gr gold dots
4. Then I have to start unlocking stuff

Why? If your most accurate gun also happens to be a .475, why shouldn't you use it? Long site radius, highly visible site, tack driving accuracy, and modest recoil.

Mosin Nagant is also real good at close range, and, it has the pig sticker, but, it's not deployed...

Even though I have assault rifles and shotguns, my primary HDG is always one of the semi-auto pistols. Whenever I did hear a bump & wanted to check things out, the XD-45 and me went for a walk. My wife stays in the bedroom with her Beretta 92 and cell phone.

My thinking has always been that a long arm inside the house is too easy to be grabbed around corners, takes two hands to manage well, meaning that you have no extra hand for light switches, door knobs, etc. This coming from a guy who has paced out the inside of his home and can get around with a blindfold on, including the stairs.

My S.O.P. is handguns inside, long arms outside. But to each his own! At least we all got guns, lots of ammo and more guns!

I'm pretty pedestrian and old-school. My old S&W Model 28 .357 loaded with Remington 158grn semi-jacketed hollowpoints is within reach and the Remington 870 Express loaded with 3" #4 Buckshot isn't far away.

I rely on a 6" S&W Registered Magnum or a 6" Manurhin MR73, loaded with 125 grain and/or 158 grain JHP ammo by Black Hills and Winchester. backed up by an LRB M25 Tanker rifle with an 18½" medium weight chrome lined barrel tipped with a SEI DC Vortex muzzle brake, sighted with a NM rear and GLFS dovetail front sight, equipped with an extended bolt stop and a NM unitized gas cylinder and trigger assembly, mounted in Boyd's laminated stock, feeding 165 grain FMJ Winchester White Box ammo from 10-round GI magazines.

Well, hellooo Larvatus. I'm outta here.
