You know, there just aren't enough polls in the shotguns forum... ;)

I'm curious to see if my supposition is correct: Is the Mossberg pump the most common flavor of HD shotgun?

well, it depends

Right now, the ready shotgun is a vintage defender with a surefire light on it, but that's the one usually set aside for my dad (him being one of them deformed right handed people) dad took my ready shotgun to vegas with him to test stages with.

since i'm left handed, dad bought me a mossberg 500 for graduation, and i put GR sights on it (had to modify the front ramp so i could screw it on instead of soldering) an i voted sticker on the left side of the reciever, a butt cuff(suitably reversed for left handed people) and a chunk of mousepad material under the comb to correct for stock drop.

there wasn't a setting to vote for both, so i voted for the one i use.

870 ... oh yeah. that's a remmy.

But that's all sorta "later."

Beware the owner, & all that, don'tcha know. ;)

Come on you Winchester fans!! Get out there and VOTE!! I am feeling better about my Lady Defender already as I look at the results so far. Realistically though, I think we are in a race for second place here.

Not that others aren't good, and certainly servicable, but I'm Mossy all the ...way

In 30+ years of owning guns, the ONLY brand of shotgun I've ever owned is Mossberg (although I've shot most others), all 500 variants...and I've never had a mechanical failure....Ever....So I'm confident and happy with my 20" HD 500

Currently the SG I have available for home defense is a Savage 69RXL pump gun. It is a former town PD gun I got used from my local dealer for a good deal. My Remington 870 is being worked on (stock, etc.) but the parts just don't seem to be coming in.

I'm perhaps the most extreme 870 fan there is, 40 years of perfect usage will do that.

However, expertise beats brand all the time. Any of the Big Four will do the job, pick one and shoot the H*LL out of it.

With my Winchester (1300 Defender) vote making a total of 28 votes. the Mossberg, Remington, and Winchester pumps have 7 votes each, with the total of all other votes also at 7. This could be a close race...

I use a 18" 870 for HD, also have a beretta 1200FP in the closet that I like alot. The only reason I leave the 870 out over the beretta is I have a light mounted on the 870

I supposed I ought to mention my own.

After many years and many Mossberg 500's (...and one Squires & Bingham back in the dark ages), I have wound up with one of them there 870's. Police trade-in; very tactical looking, with extended mag tube and Choate pistol grip buttstock.

I originally got it because I had a Remington "Law Enforcement Only" top folder lying around and needed a shotgun to stick it on, but I've become rather enamoured of the Choate fixed stock. The pistol grip makes it easy for those with wrists like spaghetti strands, such as myself, to support the gun in the ready position whilst topping off the mag.

Three 870's at home right now. Current HD (and my favorite) is the polizie trade-in w/20" vanged barrel & AO sites.
Took it to the range yesterday and (although I have not patterend it yet) it is definately tight. The clays turned to dust. Seriously, nothing but powdered chalk and the shot cup was left in the sky. Very cool.

Vote: Other (SxS, O/U, single shot): Rossi 12G Single.

As a poor and sickly Uni student (boo-hoo) living in a country that is governed by the ignorant (again): I, make do.

I am putting hunting optics on the most effective HD weapon that I own (No.1 SMLE), and I sold all of my shorts (pistols); enter the Rossi. With adequate (read: laborious) practice: shooting/reloading from cover/concealment, strong/weak side operation, et cetera.

Won't be able to silence a criminal ninja turtle team; I will be able to defend myself as well as I can, though.

New to me within the last month-----full camo Benelli Nova with a camo mag extension----holds 7 shells while being decocked with an empty chamber---24 in barrel (I know---a little long---but still not bad)---purchased mainly for pheasants and turkey--but has been sitting bedside for the last few weeks.

And the camo works well in the home setting----LOLOLOLOLOL.

My current HD shotgun is a 60's era Montgomery Ward "Western Field" 12 ga pump, model 550 which is essentially a Mossberg 500. I got it from my neighbor for $100 several years ago. It has beautiful checkering and engraved hunting scene on the receiver.

By adding an 18" barrel and sidesaddle, it makes a fine HD shotgun. It is in great shape, shoots well, and all Mossberg parts will interchange with it. And a big 'thumbs up' to Mossberg. I needed a new magazine spring for it and Mossberg sent me one at NO CHARGE.

Needless to say, I'm quite happy and satisfied with Mossberg products and service.

:)

Antonio Zoli pump (its the Fabarm pump design) with wooden parts, and Franchi 612 VS with 24'' bbl,
Thank you very much :D

My HD shotgun is a Rem 870, w/ factory mag extension and nothing else. But my fav pump is my Ithaca 87, which just gets fondled and admired, and shot outdoors on occasion.

REMINGTON MARINE MAGNUM on duty here. :D W/4 shell side saddle, ghostring sights, Uncle Mikes sling, buttstock shell holder and CompStock. Also have a 55 shell bandolier handy. Any questions? :p
