Home Defense Carbine

Anybody ever handled one of those Spanish "Destroyer" carbines? I've seen ads for these ex-cop carbines for real cheap. Its a tiny bolt action rifle in 9mm.
With a little practice I'll bet you could unleash pure hell on a goblin in the living room with one these. A Cor-Bon from one of these 16 or 18 inch barrels would probably just SMOKE an intruder.
Toss a set of tritium sights on it, load a couple of spare mags and you'd be in business for cheap - and you can't get more PC than a bolt action, of course gun grabbers have no idea how quickly you can work and fire a bolt action, especially a little short throw like this one must be.

the best I have seen is a friends M 1 carbine. Pistol grip, jungle clipped 20 rnd mags, in full auto. Mine however is a 12 ga Mossberg 18" with pistol grip and side saddle with 6 more rounds. EVERY ONE in the world knows the sound of a 12 ga shotgun being racked. And very few are willing to hang around after hearing it.

Keith, where do you find the Destroyer carbines in 9MM??? I would be interested in one as a practice bolt gun in an indoor range.

Around how much is it and who is the distributor?

Thanks.

Shutoku,

I've seen these carbines in Shotgun News. They are being imported from Spain and were once used by various police agencies in that country.
I can't remember the price but it wasn't very much. I've never seen one but they look like a fun toy and maybe a useful home defense gun.

I'm not sure but I believe the "Destroyer was not 9x19 (Parabellum or "Luger"). I think it was some other specific 9mm.

Destroyer Carbine, I have one of these nifty rifles and like it a lot (am fixing a broken fireing pin at the moment darn..) but as to its calibur it is NOT generaly a 9x19 Parabellum but 9mm Largo or Bergman or Bergman Bayard this ammo is 9x23mm and still in production by Blazer in hard ball.
I have been told that it will fire the NEW 9x23 ammo and use its brass but as the locking lugs are not hardend I will stick with handloads or Blazer

You can get Surplus but it is corrosive.

If you want to read a very fine page on the Largo and the guns that use it goto

http://www.n-link.com/~largo/index.htm

for the Sociedad Largo.

Eeeeeeeeeee... wrong! Jim West of Wild West Guns, Anchorage AK has the answer.... Marlin has the gull to barrow his answer, name it after one of the group of people Jim sells to and advertises the gun is suited for (all without compensation) and mass produce it.

The notion of firearms factories taking notice of and producing approximations of the works of custom 'smiths is nothing new. Imagine how Charlie Kelsey of Devel felt when S&W brought out the 469/669. Ditto for the several 'smiths who had a good thing going chopping down 1911's, when Colt came out with the Officers ACP...and so on and so on. Steve Nastoff tried to sue Colt over copying the shape of HIS hole in their newer Commander-style hammers. The suit didn't fly. I doubt that West would have any better luck trying to show that shortening a Marlin barrel was his copyrighted gig. About all he can do, is try to turn lemons into lemonade by offering some refinements on the factory-produced piece that the factory can't or won't provide.

Have you guys seen, handled or shot the High Point 9mm carbine??

For $150 plus tax, it's a steal! It fires the 9x19mm (9mm Luger) round so ammo is both cheap and plentiful, sights are pretty good (actually very good) (HK-type ring and post up front and aperture in the back), comes with a scope mount, made out of what looks like indestructbile plastic, the action is totally enclosed, fires from a 10 round clip and is dead reliable (it uses the simple blowback operation (i.e. a spring and a heavy mass for recoil operation, very simple)). Between myself and two others, we've never experienced a misfire or FTF or any other type of failure.

$150!!!! What more could you ask for!??

Albin

Hey, as far as a HD Carbine you might think about the good old M1-carbine (mine is a '43 IBM) it is about equal to a .357mag in power, and can be loaded with 110 HP game kings if you want to. With a base 15 rounds + 30 more in the stock pouch I have 45 rounds ready to go. ( or go massive with the 30 + 2x15 for 60)

As for the PC quality of it you can honestly say 'hey its a peice of history'

Keith,

I'm most likely the one you were thinking of that has the Co-Pilot. Schmit was instrumental in helping me obtain it. It is everything it is cracked up to be. Fine craftmanship and handles extreamly fast in getting on target.

"I was wondering what favorites anyone might have for use as a defensive carbine, handgun caliber, inside the home."

Just caught this old post of yours while doing some browsing. What about the Marlin Camp Carbine in 45 ACP? Uses the same magazine as the 1911 and is short and a fast swinging shooter.
