Holsters?

Kayla, the XD(M) is slightly longer than the XD9. If you want, I can still send you the holster so you can see the quality Mitch puts into his work. The boning of the holster is superb. The shoulder holster has a retention strap, but it's basically a waste of leather. I've never used it, and my XD has never come out.

idk if 3/4 oclock is considered small of back. you can ride a horse with a holster back there.
dude take pics and post them up with you and the gun on a horse. its been a while since I been on one. maybe 10 years? sounds fun but i would get sore cause i wasn't used to it.
i know a guy who was training his retriever. he would take her to the shooting range with him. and just start plugging away. the dog would get used to it eventually. i need to do that for my dog

retrievers, pointers, and guns, oh my....

My buddy has a trained GSP who really, really, really likes to go find the bird.

We have to exercise extreme caution when shooting on his property, because Bogey will try to run downrange of the shot, looking for the bird.

The first time he did this, I was firing an AR, and I had not planned on stopping after one or two rounds. Fortunately, I caught him out of my peripheral vision.

Unfortunately, while the dog is trained, he only really responds to my friend, so that ended the day's range session as my friend had gone to run an errand. I simply could not keep the dog from trying to run out in front of me after every shot.

(Note: the dog's owner was the same friend who had trained up an Appaloosa for mounted shooting...)

Talked to an ex-bf about mounted shooting and he said they (he's married now) have a horse I could use! I'm super excited about it. I can't imagine any of my own horses ever doing mounted shooting, even if they were gun trained. One is big, and slow and bred for dressage. The other is little and fast, but high strung. The third is lame and old.

But in a few weeks, I'm probably going to try mounted shooting!

One danger of carrying is falling off and being jammed by a big piece of metal. Even without AD, there is more risk carrying a gun or for that matter a cellphone. But uh...what happened to Steve-O on dancing with the stars? SOB would be the best carry place on horseback...at least for trail riding.

MLeake, for mounted shooting, I will probably just borrow some stuff until I figure out if I want to pursue it. Right now the idea seems appealing, but we shall see how reality matches up. In some ways, I'm a timid rider, so speed events may not be my thing. ;)

Kayla,

I would strongly urge you not to carry small of back if you want to do mounted shooting, or cowboy action shooting. God forbid if the horse rears up and you fall backwards, there is a chance you could land on the pistol and do serious damage to your spine. My friend is a cop with the motorcycle unit and they get a 15 day suspension for carrying SOB for exactly that reason, although I don't see the reason a cop would carry that way. Good luck.

Kayla,
Steve-O was doing a flip during a dance and landed flat on his back. The mic transmitter was on the middle of his back. It was the last part of the dance so he did not have to continue but he did almost have to drop out due to injury.
