Saw "History of Violence" the other night at the second run movie house (you get beer and fantastic food delivered to your table there, plus an old school big screen).
Spoilers for those who resisted Maria Bello. (stupid, stupid people)
There's a scene where the husband, predicting danger for his family but without his car, calls the house and tells his wife to get the shotgun. And she does, gets it, loads it and gets ready to defend the house while he's running home.
I liked the movie, it got a little over the top but the plot starts with a shop owner protecting his staff and customers from armed robbers. The reason he isn't armed himself becomes clear later.
It also addresses the dynamic of a family seeing their beloved provider acting in an unfamiliar (though justified) violent role and the consequences of them dealing with it.
