HK Lovers??

It was done tongue and cheek by HK stating how reliable their guns are. As in reliable even with the bullets loaded in backwards.

Actually it was a mistake by the ad team. It became a joke afterwards.

Not long ago I realized that my life situation had changed enough that I just didn't get out to the range nearly as much as I used to. So I decided to thin the herd in my gun safe that I had built up over 20+ years and use the money for some 'dream' guns and optics I would normally have to just drool over at the LGS.

Fortunately I was good friends with someone who had a long T & E career in the small arms industry and was able to try just about every handgun and rifle you could think of. Of them all, the one pistol that I kept coming back to was the HK MK23. It was, quite simply, phenomenal! But it was just oversized enough that I had to pass when I had the chance to pick one up. Fortunately there was the USP 45, and after my first range session with it there was no turning back. Now I have one standard and one Tactical and even though my once packed gun safe (had a bucket full of various modern semi-auto pistols) is now not even half full I do not regret it in the least!

As an owner of Hk pistols since the mid nineties I am very familiar with the high quality of Hk products. I agree with all of the aforementioned positive comments. I would like to add that my experience with Hk customer service has been, without exception, outstanding! I suggest you get a hold of a VP9. You may become a fanboy yourself.

I am just back from the range with my HK P30 in 9mm Luger. HKs are well-made, aesthetically pleasing, utterly reliable with all ammo (although the steel case stuff is not recommended it will cycle through the pistol), and are known to endure high-round count use. I like the de-cocker button on the back of the slide on the DA/SA version.

I like the paddle release too because I use my trigger finger to drop the magazine. (On my Sig I had to reverse the mag release to get this same effect.) Yes, the pistols usually cost more, but you will be buying a service pistol that is properly fitted in every way. As stated above, if you are not into real-world heavy triggers, forgo the HK.

Yet, the new VP9 may be the one for you because it is a modern striker-fired pistol that will make a fun range toy. I am not enthusiastic about walking around with a striker fully cocked, but that's just me.

Finally, my dumb reason for liking the HK line: The villains in the movies seem to always use them. Me too.

I'm an HK lover, and I don't mind saying it. There is a reason why people love them---they back it up.

HK also has a mystique that has developed over the years, making it a well deserved blue chip brand, although it results in rather painful pricing for many. HK pistol prices don't make me hesitate, because I love the designs.

HK rifles are wonderful also, but their prices get into ABSURD territory quickly!! HK is like the Ferrari of the gun world, where they have such cachet, they know their fans will gobble up their products like maniacs at almost any price and put them under glass for fear of scratching them. There are some deranged HK maniacs over at HK Pro. I am NOT in that category at all.

Two of my most desired fantasy guns are a fully equipped and original HK P9S Target Group III pistol and a 770 .308 semi-auto rifle. But even though I could afford both, they are honestly too extravagant for my blood. I would always think of how many other things I could have bought with that money.....(not to say that I won't own both one day when I find the right deal...........:D ).

I don't own any HK firearms, but some of my friend do, and they say they are very fine guns.
I was reading on another forum, where I saw the pictures I put in earlier.
I think the owners manual was wrong, but when new gun owners buy a gun, many times that's what they have for information.
So quality of guns, and advertisement are 2 different things.
I'm sure the user would smarten up very quickly had it come to using it.

I like HKs, but I don't love them. The only guns I really love are my Freedom Arms model 97 and my CZ Lux bolt action .22WMR.

I like HKs because they feed my favorite bullet without fail, a .45 caliber, 200 grain SWC. I think the 200 grain .45 caliber SWC is the best all around bullet made for auto pistols. ( I use plated, coated and jacketed SWCs) HKs are the only brand that have proven to feed any .45 bullet profile without fail and I don't have to fuss around with various cartridge lengths to get them to work.

I used to shoot the USP 45, but now I shoot the HK45C. Better ergo's, large enough and accurate enough for a fun range gun, small enough to slip into the waistband, and of course I know I can count on it to work every time. I also like having a manual safety.

I've never had a jam or part break with an HK pistol, I can't say the same for a 1911, Sig P220, Glock 21 & 30 or even my beloved Freedom Arms 97. Only my CZ 452 bolt rimfires have been as reliable.

The HK forum mentions that certain out-of-spec Hornady .45 bullets are not recommended. They have too long an OAL.

'Stainless steel', by definition, -- contains 11%, or more chromium.
As for the H & K, my USP 40, an early one, is still good for head shots at 65 yards, can't make it stop working by not cleaning it, and I am still trying to wear it out.

Exactly, and they were blistered severely for that ad for quite some time

way HK

Hello, my name is softmentor and I'm an HK lover
I've been on the HK wagon since my very first hand gun. It all began when I wanted to start working private security armed (was a long gun guy for many years before that). Tried out several guns from buddies at work and at a rental range. Hated a couple and liked several, but the one I shot the best, the one that got me in the 10 ring the most, was the HK USP 45. ohhhh yea, that's where it started.
In my hand, it shoots the best
In my hand it feels the best
I have several USP full size in 45, 40 and 9mm, and P2000sk in 40 and they all run flawlessly. Yes 100% flawlessly for tens of thousands of rounds. The ONLY problem I have had was with one mag not stacking right (would sometimes take 9 rounds instead of all 10) but never, not even once, have any of the guns failed in any way.
The USP has a recoil reduction system that takes a little of the kick off, and that's nice too.
I like the trigger on the V1 which is DA/SA but they make DA only, lighter DA law enforcement, and Match triggers if you want those difference. Really, with those triggers, the complaints about trigger are mute. and since I score 10's with the standard trigger, guess its not all that bad.
Price? well, sigh, yea ok, soo, ya got us on that one. But then 24 carrot cost more that 18 carrot gold, right (I'm grasping at straws here lol)
Did I mention that I shoot more 10 ring with it that the others?
ya gotta love that

Here's the opinion of a gun guy that never picked up an H&K before until yesterday, when I shot my friend's 40. (Sorry, I forgot the model, but it's 15-20 years old.)

I always knew they were supposed to be very good guns, but never had much of an opinion on them, or need for one.

Handling and shooting his, I saw what the attraction is. It's very good looking (isn't that the most important thing about a gun?) in a very tough way. It's very big, but handles great. The trigger is nice, and it shot great.

I doubt I'll get one, but it was really cool. I understand the love for them more than I do for Sigs, which seem to have equally enthusiastic fans.

David

They're excellent and everyone should own at least one, if not several.

-Well engineered
-High quality components
- Utterly reliable
- Great QC, there are lemons from time to time
- Primarily duty / .MIL
- Lifetime Warranty (You are not likely to need it.)

There really aren't a ton of negatives.
